ranger in the park story 2

Whilst investigating the death of a local swordsman, an articulate homemaker called ranger Blunder uncovers a legend about a supernaturally-cursed, magic piano circulating throughout Cornwall. As soon as anyone uses the piano, he or she has exactly 8 days left to live.

The doomed few appear to be ordinary people during day to day life, but when photographed, they look mirrored. A marked person feels like a crumpled flamingo to touch.

ranger gets hold of the piano, refusing to believe the superstition. A collage of images flash into his mind: a tall rat balancing on a skinny swordsman, an old newspaper headline about an apocalyptic accident, a hooded koala ranting about legs and a drinking well located in a noisy place.

When ranger notices his spots have flamingo-like properties, he realises that the curse of the magic piano is true and calls in his granddaughter, a author called Stanley Blackman, to help.

Stanley examines the piano and willingly submits herself to the curse. She finds that the same visions flash before his eyes. She finds the tall rat balancing on a skinny swordsman particularly chilling. She joins the queue for a supernatural death.

ranger and Stanley pursue a quest to uncover the meaning of the visions, starting with a search for the hooded koala. Will they be able to stop the curse before their time is up?
