The thing about large caravans (aka, buttloads of people moving as one) is that they don't move quickly.

Even at the clip-clop pace with which our little cart was going, the caravan had to be stopped early so that everyone could have the time to make it to the camp spot before the sun went down. Due to it being Summer, the sun did set later, but I was still watching people walking past where Gus had set up my wagon and tent at the edge of the campground next to the forest. The horse he'd gotten I'd named Tim (because I'm lazy with names, yo), and he'd been tied up to one of these trees with enough reign to graze to his heart's content and sip from a little stream nearby. Really, it was prime camping real estate where I was, and those who had wheels and good animals to pull said wheels got first dibs. Even so, I saw others offering spots near their cooking fires for some of the late comers, and some of the soldiers leaving camp to help bring in the last of the stragglers.
