CHAPTER 17

7:53 PM

Alice got home but was reluctant to go in. She stood at the door for a while thinking. She knew her mom won't scold her if she she knew where she was. All she was worried about was how she was gonna get a chance to even explain where she was. She knew her mom well. She knew immediately she opened the door it would take a long time before she got a chance to explain to her mom.

'Ohh dear lord!' She exclaimed in her mind. She prepared her mind.

————————-

Alice's mom had finally decided go out and look for her. She was really worried. She picked her car keys from the center table and walked to the door. Alice's mom opened the door and she saw Alice leaning against the wall with her hand tracing the door bell.

"Where the hell were you? And why are you so late? Do you know how worried I was. How long have you been standing there?" Just like she thought her mom didn't even give a chance to come in or to speak. She just kept on talking(I meant ranting though but that between us.)

"Why are you silent? And why are you still standing there? " Her mom asked more questions.

"You didn't give me a chance to speak mom. And you are still in my way, so how can I come in?" Alice was direct. Her mom realized Alice was right, yet again She didn't give her a chance to speak. She also realized she was actually standing in her way and Alice could not come in. She just decided to walk to a couch and got herself sorted there.

"Will you start talking?" Her mom asked impatiently.

Alice walked in, locked the door, dropped her bag on the nearest couch and found a place to sit and take off her sneakers and socks.

"Mom Oliver was beaten to a pulp by his basketball mates and I had to help him home." She decided to go with the lie Oliver told to prevent issues. Her mom turned quiet when things finally set in.

"Was he hurt badly?" Her mom asked worried. She liked Oliver. She felt he was a nice and well mannered young boy. She trusted him too.

"A bit. He was punched in the stomach a lot and his face suffered most of since he received quite a few punches in the face." Alice didn't realize that her mom took that as very severe.

"Why wasn't he taken to the hospital then. He must have been hurt a lot to have him be assisted home by you. And you? Hope you didn't get caught with in the fight?" She also wanted to know if her daughter got hurt.

"No mom, I wasn't. Am starving, is there anything I can eat?" Alice was starving. She walked to the dining while speaking.

"I made dinner an hour ago. I baked Boneless Pork Chops. You'll love them. But you'll have to get it heated first." Alice didn't care, she was starving.

"Don't bother mom. I'll eat them like that. My tommy can't wait any longer. "

Meanwhile at Oliver's home...

Mrs.Evelyn went to Oliver's room to check up on him. She went up the stairs and knocked on his door and Oliver let her in. He was busy on his phone, checking what was going on all over social media.

"Do your wounds still hurt?" Evelyn asked him.

"Of course, they do" he replied clearly perplexed by her question. He wondered if she was expecting the pain to fly out of the windows so quickly.

"Ohh that's good" she said. She intentionally asked him if his wounds still hurt

"Aunt Evelyn so you are happy I am hurt?"he asked.

"Maybe. Cause I know you fed your mom with lies this evening." She smirked and dusted her white apron.

"I didn't..." he knew he was busted, she had clearly caught him in his lie. Before he could continue she cut him off.

"Are you gonna lie to me again? Do I look like your mother who would easily believe your lies?" She asked.

"No! But Aunt Evelyn how did you know?" He asked. 'How in the world did she know I lied? And here I was thinking I was a pretty good liar.' He thought.

"Just tell me what really happened and why you lied."she didn't want to beat around the bush. The truth was she treated him like a son and she was actually worried that he had gotten himself into something vulgar.

"Okay!okay! I'll tell you."
