Chapter 4

Once the racers heard that, they returned to their cars. Lacey shot off the starting pistol, and The Combo Convertible drove off. The other racers waited 60 seconds for Team Combo's head start to be over. While waiting, Lacey and Stephanie gave Team Static and Team Confetti calamine lotion to cure their poison ivy. The Combo Convertible drove across town and tried to make it back to the forest, but when their head start was over, Stephanie shot the starting pistol, and all the other racers raced after The Combo Convertible.

Once The Combo Convertible made it to the ocean, they turned their car into a rowboat and rowed across the sea. The Dragon Wagon is 2nd, and when they got to the sea, they turned their car into a plane and flew over the sea. The Flower Truck is in 3rd, and when they got to the sea, they turned their vehicle into a sailboat and sailed across the ocean. The Seashell Saleen is in 4th, and when they got to the sea, they turned their car into a hot air balloon and flew over the ocean. The Wave Train is in 5th, and when they got to the sea, they turned their car into a hot air balloon and flew over the sea. The Staticmobile is 6th, and when they got to the ocean, they turned their car into a helicopter and flew over the sea. The Speed Canoe is in 7th, and when they got to the sea, they turned their vehicle into a rowboat and rowed across the ocean. The Catmobile is 8th, and when they got to the sea, they turned their car into a speedboat and drove across the sea. The Flame Car is in 9th, and when they got to the ocean, they turned their vehicle into a motorboat and went across the sea. The Confetti Convertible was last, and when they got to the sea, they turned their car into a hot air balloon and flew over the ocean. 

The Speed Rowboat was rowing across and catching up with The Flower Sailboat, sailing across the ocean. The Cat Speedboat passed The Speed Rowboat, started to paddle faster, and then passed The Flower Sailboat and The Combo Rowboat. Then they kept paddling and paddling fast and gave everyone in the sky the slip, putting themselves in the lead. After Team Cat passed them, Team Flower tried to speed their boat up somehow because the wind wasn't making it go too fast. Katie said, "Don't we have paddles?" Mary said, "We have oars." Katie said, "Give me that." Katie put one of Mary's oars in the water and started paddling their boat with Mary. While they were stroking, a bunch of shark fins came out of the water and began to swim towards The Flower Sailboat. Lacey and Stephanie spotted the sharks from their helicopter in the sky and saw them following The Flower Sailboat. Lacey said, "Looks like Team Flower is about to be shark food. And they don't even know it."

Once they returned to America, they turned their boats, planes, helicopters, and hot air balloons into cars and raced through Virginia. The Seashell Saleen is in 5th and is passing everyone from 4th-2nd. The Catmobile is in the lead, and when they saw The Combo Convertible right behind them, Chris hit the gas and went faster so that The Combo Convertible couldn't pass them, and they could keep their lead. Team Combo wouldn't give up that easily, so they dumped tar onto the track, and everyone from 3rd to 9th got stuck in it. Once Team Confetti saw the tar, Valerie pushed a button in their car and threw a ramp in front of it. Then Team Confetti drove up the ramp and jumped over the tar, putting themselves in 3rd place.

While everyone from 1st-3rd was racing through Ohio, the racers from 4th-last were trying to get out of the tar. While everyone from 4th to last was in the tar, everyone from 1st to 3rd quickly passed through both West Virginia and Pennsylvania and got way ahead of everyone stuck in the tar back in Virginia. Meanwhile, Lacey and Stephanie were at the finish line, waiting for the racers to come. While waiting, Marcel from the network called and told them to move the finish line to Las Vegas. After getting their phone call, they turned on their TV and saw Allison and Dory get their car out of the tar and return to the race. Lacey said, "Well. Team Dragon is the first team to get their car out of Team Combo's tar trap." Stephanie said, "But I don't think it matters because the first three teams are way out in front and are almost to the finish line." Lacey changed the channel and saw The Catmobile in the lead, The Combo Convertible in 2nd, and The Confetti Convertible in 3rd. Lacey said, "Whichever one comes in 1st will be disappointed when they hear they'll have to race more to get their money." Stephanie said, "But with the sun going down, the trapped racers will have to either sleep in their cars or race at night if they ever get their cars out." 

Team Wave and Team Canoe were next to get their cars out of the tar and return to the race. The Wave Train is 5th, and The Speed Canoe is 6th. Meanwhile, The Catmobile, The Combo Combo Convertible, and The Confetti Convertible headed into Cleveland and crossed the finish line. The Catmobile came in 1st, The Combo Convertible in 2nd, and The Confetti Convertible in 3rd. Chris shouted, "Give us our money!" Chris and Joseph ran toward Lacey and Stephanie, but they refused to give Chris and Joseph the money. Lacey said, "Sorry, racers, but we got informed that the finish line moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. You'll rest here for the night. Then, in the morning, you'll race to Nebraska and make a rest stop there. Then, you'll race to the finish line in Las Vegas. Tomorrow, The Catmobile will get a 60-second head start on the way to Nebraska before Las Vegas since they came in 1st."

Team Flower got their car out of the tar next, put themselves in 7th, and returned to the race. Lacey said, "Four racing teams have made it out of the tar, but three are still stuck." Team Flame made it out of the tar next, put themselves in 8th, and returned to the race. Team Seashell and Team Static finally made it out of the tar and were the last to get out. Team Seashell put themselves in 9th, and Team Static put themselves last. Once all the racers from 4th-last made it out of Virginia, they passed through both West Virginia and Pennsylvania and headed into Ohio. The sun went down while they were racing, and the finished racers had dinner. And when they finished eating, they refilled their gas tanks, checked into their hotel, and slept there for the night. Once the rest of the racers crossed the finish line, The Dragon Wagon came in 4th, The Seashell Saleen passed everyone from 8th-5th and came in 5th, The Flower Truck ditched both The Speed Canoe and The Wave Train and came in 6th, The Wave Train came in 7th, The Speed Canoe came in 8th, The Flame Car came in 9th, and The Staticmobile came in last. Once all the racers crossed the finish line, Lacey and Stephanie told them to buy dinner and check into their hotel. They also said that the race got moved to Las Vegas and that they would have to take a rest stop in Nebraska. Team Cat won, so they'll be getting a head start tomorrow. Once they heard that, they had dinner, refilled their gas tanks, checked into their hotel with the racers that had already finished, and slept there for the night.
