A Wolfe in the Mountains

As both Quinn and his squib mother had been part of the magical world since birth, they were rather accustomed to portkey travel. This did however not mean that Quinn thought it was a fun and efficient method of transportation. With slightly teary eyes he took three deep breaths to calm down his body. "Bloody hell, took me years to get used to my own apparition. Don't think I'll ever learn to portkey properly."

He looked up to see his mother put a comforting arm on his shoulder. She had gotten used to it during her childhood since her father liked to bring her on various trips around the world. A gentle smile was all he got before they heard a door slam open and he looked around.

It appeared that they were currently on top of a natural pillar of sorts. A raised platform if you will. The mountain was entirely flat on top which served the man who had built a house there very well. That's not to say that it was an impressive house, because it was one of the least impressive shacks he'd ever seen. It literally looked like a small breeze would cause the walls to fall in and the roof to hit the ground. "Is that the boy you were talking about Albus?" He heard a gruff american man call out. Quinn took a look at him.

It was clear to see he was what was called a native american. You could see it in his face quite clearly. If he remembered correctly from a time when he looked up important men and women in the Americas, this guy was from the chow- no...choctaw group. He was well known for producing very peculiar wands using the Thunderbird which only lived in these parts. Ironically the Thunderbird, cousin of the Phoenix, lived right by Phoenix the city. But back to the man. He was rather short and tubby. His face was round and had deep wrinkles. Currently it was clear he was evaluating Quinn, and there was a little spark to his eyes as he did so.

The man walked back into his shack and a second later he came out again looking annoyed "Well? You coming or not, boy?" Quinn walked quickly into the shack and it looked just as small on the inside as it did on the outside. It barely had room to fit a bed, table and cooking area. He did however see a hole in the ground just by the side of the bed. With a hesitating glance he looked at Dumbledore, who made a gesture to 'go on, don't be afraid' and so he jumped into the hole.

When he got down he was met with the wandmaker who now wore a very peculiar monocle. "Took you long enough. So your last wand was an alder wand with a unicorn core right? 9 inches and bendy wood?" Quinn nodded at the man who huffed. "Well that's dumb, it doesn't fit you at all! At least not what I see. Hold on a second.." the man ran around a corner.

Down here there was plenty of room. First was a hall of sorts where there was a table, lots of logs and a couple of vials with random contents. Around the corner was, from the sounds of it, his actual workshop. Not wanting to invade the man's privacy, Quinn stayed where he was. Suddenly he heard a massive spark and the room started smelling of smoke. "*cough* Don't worry *cough* about it! I'll be back in a few seconds."

A minute later the wand maker came back with a long bland wand and a pair of scissors. He inspected Quinn up and down for several seconds before cutting off two inches on the top of the wand. He then put the scissors down and flicked the wand with his middle finger. The wand started changing before Quinn's very eyes. The structure of the wood changed as lightning seemed to spread throughout the length of it. The tip got a crooked look and from the handle up to the tip was a classic lightning-struck pattern in a slightly spiralling shape. It was beautiful, thought Quinn.

"Alder and Ebony wood. Ebony closer to the core of course. A rather protective Thunderbird gave her feather in exchange for me protecting her children after her demise. I hope you'll make sure you're worthy of this wand, Mr. Quirrell." Quinn took two steps forward and reached for the wand. It gave him a tingling sensation before he even grasped it and when he did, every hair stood on their end as that very same, but stronger, tingling sensation spread throughout his body. It was energizing and exhilarating, the wand sent a signal which went through his entire body before it gently warmed his hand as if accepting.

He looked up at the wandmaker with absolute joy on his face and bowed down slightly "I will do my very best, master wandmaker Shikoba Wolfe. I simply cannot thank you enough for going along with Albus' suggestion."

The man huffed. "I got quite a good deal there I might add. But you better not sully my name! You've got potential kid, don't waste it. Your failures are connected to my name from now on and I will not stand for laziness tarnishing the good name of Wolfe!"

Quinn decided to take advantage of the situation. "Yes, I will be representing your name in the future. In a place where your name isn't as tightly rooted though, so most will only associate it with me after a while." Mr. Wolfe looked at him questioningly, wondering where he was going with this line of thinking.

He continued "Sooo..is there anything you might want to teach me? People would find it odd if you taught me and yet I didn't know the first thing about wandmaking for example." He looked hopefully and expectantly at his 'master' who surprisingly started laughing.

"You don't quite have the affinity for my line of work. But you do have a point." The wandmaker took out his wand and pointed it right between the eyes of Quinn. "Now this way of teaching is probably not recommended but I don't have time to teach you everything. I will create some false memories of us working on this down here. Those memories will include proper instructions and everything. There are a couple of major problems with it however.."

Quinn looked at the man pointing his wand at him a bit hesitantly. "And those are..?" Mr. Wolfe grinned as his wand started shining, he had apparently already begun without consent. "You will not remember it all at once. A big information drop like this will either destroy your mind or get lost instantly. Therefore you will get the memories one at a time in your dreams. I do recommend you pick up some occlumency to organize this mind though. It is a terrible place to work in."

Quinn nodded gently, afraid of what would happen if he interrupted the spell. "Secondly, I will not be able to include lectures as it would put too much strain on me, so once I'm done I want you to grab everything you can in this place and put it into the chest around the corner. All workbenches are shrinkable and all bottles with ingredients as well. Don't waste anything."

Quinn blinked at what he assumed was coming "Master Wolfe! Please correct me, but this sounds like a last will. You don't mean-" he was interrupted by a slightly shaking and heavily sweating Mr. Wolfe. "Thirdly, I will most likely die after this. To make this work, some of the things I will be getting into your mind are my actual memories, but tampered to work for the occasion. When I lose them and I use all of my magic, I will most likely perish."

"WHAT?!" Quinn exclaimed horrified.
