Prologue

The world was in ruins, and the only person who could have saved them was dead.

Sha Ri stared at her husband laying there in her arms, her fingers splayed over his still chest. She desperately wished to hear the 'ba-thump' of a beating heart but there was just cold dead silence. No matter how much she called out to him or begged him to wake up, he didn't respond to her.

She tried despite of it all, she tried till her vision was blurred from the tears and till her voice was hoarse from all the begging.

But he still didn't move.

"I hate you!" she screamed at the person standing in front of her; the witch who had slain her king and husband stood there with a sneer on her face when she saw her enemy was finally dead. Sha Ri couldn't believe how she had let the witch kill her own husband, how she had let him die while protecting her. Her thoughts swirled around her mind, screaming at herself: How could she have failed to defend her own king and let her people down? she, the renowned queen of monsters, had just failed everyone who had ever trusted her to keep them safe.

"Ha ha!" Yu Han laughed, "I can't believe Jun Liyun was so easy to kill. Who would have thought this was the strongest person in the mainland? The monsters are so easy to slay, what a pity!"

"That's not true," Sha Ri whispered. The monsters and the witches had been battling each other for centuries and thus Jun Liyun had been weakened by constantly fighting in the war. Any ordinary man would have kneeled over and died but not her Liyun. Despite all, he had lead his people and fought with all of his might. But the forest was bewitched with witches' magic that made him weaker, and on top of that he had received a grievous wound while trying to save her.

Because she had been unable to save herself since she was so pitifully weak.

However, there was still one thing she could do: a measure she had come up with incase the situation had gone awry and there was no way for the monsters to win.

"Wen Shi," Sha Ri snarled loudly, and a young girl appeared beside her, Yu Han stumbled back by the sudden arrival of another monster.

"Do it." Was all Sha Ri gritted out.

Wen Shi reeled back, aghast. "You can't do that, you'll die!"

"Oh, little monsters have a plan don't they?" Yu Han had an evil look on her face, "give it up, for you all are going to die today!"

Sha Ri looked at Wen Shi silently. Wen Shi tearfully turned away to give Yu Han a scalding look. She had never imagined that the worst case scenario would come true. Yu Han, the witches's leader, had managed to kill the monsters' king and hurt the queen so badly.

Yu Han stared back, her dark eyes mocking them.

Yu Han had fought with Jun Liyun for over a week in the forest, before his stupid little wife had decided to intervene. The truth to be told, she wouldn't have survived another day sparring with the demonic king, even in his weakened state he was far more stronger than her.

It all changed with the queen's arrival.

Sha Ri had tried to save him by killing her, but instead Yu Han was quicker. Yu Han attacked her instantly and Sha Ri had been too slow to react, thus, there would not have been anyway for her to block the poisonous sword and she would have been struck dead there and then. But she hadn't died, because at the last moment Jun Liyun appeared in front of her in a flash, and blocked the poisoned sword with his own body.

Yu Han was grievously wounded as well, and she could feel the blood gushing from her body, mingling with the fallen king's blood splattered on her from the fatal stabbing. She knew that there was a real chance she would die but finally she could do so in peace. Now that the king was dead and Sha Ri broken by his demise, the land had no protector. The witches had won and all the monsters would all soon die by their hands.

Suddenly, there was a loud noise behind her, and it startled Yu Han. She turned around in surprise as a wall appeared out of nowhere. The giant behemoth was made up of ancient stones with indecipherable glowing symbols embedded in the wall.

Yu Han couldn't believe her eyes, mere seconds ago she saw the fallen Rosa Idyllwood clearly but now there was a tall wall blocking her. This was also noticed by other witches that were fighting the remaining monsters. They all knew that the wall was not a good thing for them, and so they all ignored the monsters they had been battling with and attacked the wall together. Yu Han tried to warn her fellow witches as they ran towards the wall to cast spells to bring it down, but Sha Ri was too quick for her. Taking advantage of the chaos, she signaled Wen Shi to disappear using the pandemonium before she drove forward and stabbed Yu Han in the stomach with her own knife.

Yu Han choked up as the piercing pain shot through her. She gasped as she was unable to speak anymore. All she could do was watch silently as the spells bounced back from the wall and hit the witches instead, the witches didn't stand a chance and each one of them lay there dead, their glassy eyes still wide from the shock.

Yu Han watched all of her witches die and she wailed, though only sobs escaped from her mouth. She swallowed the blood and bile, and turned to Sha Ri with a deadly look in her eyes.

"I'm going to kill you," Yu Han snarled at her but Sha Ri just twisted the knife deeper.

She already knew she was going to die, because the witches would not let her go now that she had hurt their leader and caused their defeat. But, she wasn't scared of dying.

What she was rueful was for not being able to finish Yu Han off. Jun Liyun hadn't been avenged but she would pay Yu Han back a thousandfold in her next life.

"Not if I kill myself first." Sha Ri gritted her teeth as she took out the knife that was bloodied from Yu Han's wound and stabbed herself. She gasped as the knife pierced her own heart. Then She collapsed on top of Jun Liyun and stopped moving, her eyes empty but there was a small smile on her face.

It was common knowledge that the king and the queen of the monsters reincarnated everytime they died. Yu Han knew Sha Ri would be back, and that is why she hadn't hesitated to kill herself. Unfortunately the only way for Sha Ri and Jun Liyun to truly die was by eradicating every monster so they wouldn't have any vessel that would be able to support their monster souls.

Since Sha Ri had disrupted their plans and protected the monsters from dying by erecting a magical wall, Yu Han had no choice but to stagger back in defeat. She fiercely stared at her dead enemies, hating that they would come back unlike her followers.

Yu Han fell on her knees, her vision darkening. She willed herself to stay awake till her remaining followers on the battlefield arrived. She had an idea on how to defeat the king and queen for once and for all.

Her hands shook as her fingers grasped a small emerald stone hidden in her tattered cloak. A stone that was so powerful that it was almost mythical. She palmed the stone just as she heard footsteps approach her.

"Yu Han!" the witch healer, Shu Liu, cried out when she saw her hurt leader. She had fallen behind because she had been healing other fallen witches. She rushed as quickly as she could have and hoped that she hadn't been too late. However her hope dwindled when she saw how badly bruised Yu Han was. She quickly stopped Yu Han's bleeding by pressing some herbs while she inspected Yu Han's injuries. It was quiet for sometime before she finally pulled back and said: "You have been inflicted with a strong poison, on top of that you are hurt badly. I can try to cure it but I don't know how long it would take."

Yu Han nodded as she leaned in Shu Liu's body, unable to stand up anymore. However, before she could faint she quickly told Shu Liu about her plan and once she was done she crumbled the stone, and watched it turn to dust in her palms.

She didn't know if she would survive this, but if she did, she would come back for Sha Ri.

They will meet again, she would make sure of it

And then, she would make Sha Ri suffer hell.
