Sword of Lycoris Part 4

At those words Lyn laughed softly. "You're always so serious Pupilliam. It's true I am having a hard time telling Rhys. However, even if he were to randomly find out. I think I would be okay with it too."

Pupilliam looked at the girl with a skeptical expression on her face.

"You are speaking so vaguely, that means you're hesitating on him learning the truth."

"B-but-"

"I understand how you feel, even I share the same thoughts about him running away if he finds out."

"You think so too right?" Lyn's expression dimmed and she sighed. "Rhys is so foolish, whether it's the current or past him. This part of him that doesn' trust my feelings remains the same. Back when I was still a Princess, I thought it over and over what can I do for Rhys? What can I do to show him that I love him more than Kazuya. But, that last part was probably my mistake. What Rhys doesn't want is to see me compare the love I have for him and the love I have for Kazuya."

"So you're saying he doesn't want to hurt King Kazuya." Pupilliam trailed off. "But that-"

"-it's impossible." Lyn nodded. "There is only one me. Although the Mist Kingdom has the multiple spouses rule. It does not encourage loving all your spouses. In fact, people will look down on you if you love more than one person.Rhys and Kazuya do not want to share my love with anybody, they want it for themselves. If that's the case then somebody will end up hurt."

Before Pupilliam could say anymore, a solider approaches the Queen and whispers something in her ear. A deep sigh escaped her lips understanding the situation.

"Do you want me to come along?"

Lyn shakes her head. "It's alright, I'll take Teo. Pupilliam, can you check on Miley for me?"

Now that she mentions it, 'I haven't visited Miley in a long time myself. The last time I visited the girl was on the verge of sneaking out of the academy. I haven't received any reports from the academy recently, so I thought maybe Miley had settled down.'

However, that very thought is unsettling too.

"Initially I was going to go by myself, so I can break the news about me and Rhys. But, maybe it would be better to hear it from you first."

In other words the Queen already knows how Miley will react, and wants her to soften the blow.

"Very well."

Lyn's eyes sparkled and she sighed in relief.

"However, you still have to tell her yourself and as soon as possible too. If you want the Knights to accept Rhys, you have to tell them all properly."

"I know! Thank you Pupilliam, your the best."

With a final wave, Lyn left with the soldier and Pupilliam sighed. Whether she is a Princess or a Queen there are still traits that remain the same. That childish smile just now, remains unchanged.

Silver Palace, Mist Kingdom.

Before visiting Miley, Pulliam decided to visit her teachers and see if anything had occurred. However all of them said the same lines, 'She has been very behaved, and attends classes on time. She has integrated with the place entirely.' Pupilliam walks down the hallway with a puzzled look on her face. It can't be possible, one of the main reasons why Miley was sent to this place was because the Queen knew that the girl would never fit in. Miley would not be easily brainwashed by this place.

Is it possible? Did the plan fail and they somehow got to Miley? Just the thought of Miley obediently attending classes, wearing the uniform properly- Pupilliam shakes her head. In order to dispel these disturbing thoughts she needs to see the girl directly.

"I can't believe your here again!" A familiar voice said.

Huh this voice- Pupilliam heads to the direction of the voice and spotted Miley yelling at a man with silver coloured hair. Isn't that Lan? When did he get back?

"How many times have I told you to stop visiting me?"

"I believe this is the tenth time."

"It's the fiftieth!"

"Has it been that long already? I didn't know you were keeping count. You must really like me Miley."

All the thoughts and doubts she had moments ago vanished in an instant. Even though Miley was wearing the uniform properly, the aura around the girl is till the same.

'I came here to talk to her but if Lan is here, there is no need for me to intervene. Contrary to how Miley feels towards Lan, it's rare for Miley to speak so much to another person. She normally ignores people who don't belong to the Queen's knights.'

Pupilliam turns to leave and finds herself on the path exiting the academy.

The Knights accept Rhys as King, other than Miley. The others should put up no resistance. Even Miley, in the end what everybody wants is the Queen to be happy. But then, where will that leave King Kazuya?

'There is no use. I have already accepted my death.'

King Kazuya's words resurfaced in her mind and she sighs deeply.

During the battle for the jade three years ago, she ended up meeting with Rhys who was silently participating in the battle.

Year XX Three Years ago

'They sent me to this area because there were many wounded. But, I didn't think I would see him here.'

A man wearing a dark cloak was crouching down and tending to the wounded soldiers. It's Rhys, King Kazuya did mention that he would be helping on the sidelines. But due to the scale of the battlefield, Pupilliam didn't think she would see him here.

Rhys looked over and sighed. "Did they have to send you?"

"Did you want the Queen to come here? Because she was planning to, but King Kazuya stopped her most-likely because you're here."

"I see. While we move the wounded, can you keep firing magic at the enemy? They won't stop, it's hard for the stretchers to return to camp." Rhys instructed.

"Alright." Pupilliam got closer to the edge of the rock and continued to fire beams of magic.
