8 The Student Council President is a Clever Snake

"Sir, I believe that your actions today will be detrimental to your rapport on the next elections." The female vice president with a short bob said.

"How so, Wang Jing?" She Haoran said.

"The students are aggravated for being forced to line up for this investigation." Wang Jing replied. "We already know who is responsible for this riot, why do we have to question them one by one?"

She Haoran just smiled. "Wang Jing.... How did you feel about the shortening of the school vacation?"

"A bit upset, I suppose. We were supposed to have a trip to my grandmother's house in Sichuan." Wang Jing admitted.

"Think about how the other students feel. They are recuperating from the difficult previous year but their break was cut short. What would they like the most now that extending the vacation isn't possible?"

"I..." Wang Jing thought about it, but gave up. "I don't know, sir."

"I'll tell you what." She Haoran leaned on his desk. "A class suspension. No matter how short-lived, they would appreciate it."

Wang Jing was baffled. "So the reason you did all this...."

"They would be thankful to me. Their afternoon classes has been emptied out for them, and they are now free to rest. Those who complained at first will realize it afterwards." She Haoran said.

"And I would not only appease the students, but the teachers as well. They believe that I am being a responsible young leader, while the students see me as their savior from the afternoon classes. Would you still say I'm damaging my chances for the election?"

Mo Aini could not help but chuckle in amusement from hearing this. This school president is really clever!

"Mister, are you going inside the office now?" The secretary came up from behind him while he was listening in at the half-opened door. "There's still a long line, you see."

"Oh, right." Mo Aini said, still grinning. "I'm going in."

When he went inside, he was greeted by a formal-looking She Haoran wearing a uniform with a badge of the student council. His black hair was dark and shiny like obsidian and styled perfectly on his head to accentuate his handsome face. "Good afternoon, your name please?"

"Mo Aini."

Unlike other people, She Haoran did not make any remarks from his name. "Mr. Mo, welcome. Please sit down while I ask you some questions."

The scene paused on She Haoran's gentle smile, and the system showed his bio.

BACKSTORY

She Haoran had been part of the student council of Nushen High for 4 years now. He is still planning to run in his senior year, as president for the second time, and is determined to win. He may have unconventional means to get the masses' admiration, but all of his actions are out of goodwill for the benefit of others and himself.

Born from a low-class family who had just now started to become rich through great luck, he is a hardworking and dependable leader with high ambitions. He plans to be a politician when he grows up and create laws that would balance the benefits of the rich and the poor. Despite being friendly, he is skeptical of other people treating him nicely and wary of being manipulated himself.

Because of his talents, he can sometimes come off as overconfident and aloof. He also tends to hide his true face behind a facade, staying indifferent and stoic. He is the type who names everything he owns and would be secretly enraged if someone touched his stuff, but never says it. He is very specific on what he likes and doesn't like, but never shows on his face what he thinks of it.

MOTTO

"Pearls don't lie on the seashore. If you want one, you must dive for it*. Once you found one, do not let anyone covet it and take it from you."]

Mo Aini felt hopeful from this profile. Manipulative and two-faced, with a hint of possessiveness, She Haoran could be a worthy opponent against Hu Chuntian in terms of being a bad boy!

The scene continued again, and She Haoran spoke.

"Where were you during the time of the riot in the cafeteria, Mr. Mo?" He asked.

"I was having lunch with my friend, Gou Manchu. I also ate with the one who came before me, Shu Chuanli. But he left before the food fight happened." Mo Aini explained.

"So you witnessed how the riot had started?"

"Yes." Mo Aini nodded. "We were eating peacefully when two men started having an argument in the middle of the cafeteria. They were the ones who started throwing plates at each other, then a lot of people started to do the same."

She Haoran narrowed his eyes slightly, so Mo Aini quickly added. "Gou Manchu and I were not part of that, of course! We ducked and covered our heads under the tables, and escaped to the cafeteria's backdoor."

"I see." She Haoran wrote something on his desk. "Did you hear what the two men were arguing about?"

"They were arguing about—"

Mo Aini was about to tell the truth when he came up with another brilliant idea. "A girl. They were arguing about a girl."

"Oh?" She Haoran lifted an impeccably shaped eyebrow. "Who was it?"

"It's the new transfer student everyone was talking about." Mo Aini took out his phone, and showed a picture of Mo Jiagei. "Just look at how pretty she is. Everyone is so crazy about her that she started a whole rampage on her first day!"

He prayed to the system gods for She Haoran to take the bait and find his unattractive sister attractive as well.

"Ah, I have heard about her. True, I like her face." She Haoran nodded, showing a slight interest.

"You're going to talk to her too later, right?" Mo Aini acted like he was just being too talkative. "Man, you're so lucky to be the student council president. If it was me I would find a way to use my power to get the girl I like all for myself!"

"I'm afraid that would be illegal, Mr. Mo." She Haoran said.

"It doesn't have to be through illegal means." Mo Aini grinned. "This food fight was slightly her fault. She must also be held responsible. Assigning her to a few hours of community service would be ok. And you, as a responsible student council president, would oversee it."

"How exactly would it be her fault?" She Haoran was amused by Mo Aini's suggestion.

"Her beauty is a crime! She had incited a terrible incident because of two men who are blinded by their love for her!" Mo Aini said dramatically. He went closer and said in a hushed voice. "And besides, this is your opportunity to get ahead of the competition. If you spend time with her through detention, you'll get to know her more."

"Wouldn't she find me unreasonable? Since when had beauty became a crime?" She Haoran chuckled. "You seem very hell-bent on having me punish this girl. What benefit would that give to you?"

Mo Aini felt shivers when She Haoran called him out! He really was a perceptive guy that he can't fool easily!

"Can I tell you a secret then?" Mo Aini came up with his last resort.

"Go ahead. I feel flattered that you find me trustworthy for this." She Haoran smiled, still giving him a calculating look.

"I am this girl's brother." Mo Aini admitted. "Our parents fear her safety from all these boys chasing after her. They believe if she finds a good and dependable boyfriend soon, the threat of these suitors would lessen."

He went over conspicuously to She Haoran, and whispered to his ear. "And I believe that you are the most worthy candidate for that."

She Haoran frowned. "That is perplexing, Mr. Mo. You have just met me, why would you put your trust in me that much?"

"You didn't know me, but I've known you since you first became the student council president four years ago. You are smart, talented, and better than any man in this school. If there was someone that I would like to be part of my family, it would be you."

She Haoran couldn't stop himself from laughing. "Oh my, that's too much! You're moving too fast for me, Mr. Mo. Aren't you even worried about how your sister feels about you selling her out to some random man she hasn't met? Arranged marriage had been so outdated since too long ago."

"Then not marriage, just go after her if you like. You have my permission." Mo Aini persisted. "Do you like my sister?"

She Haoran went quiet, expression unreadable.

"Silence often means yes." Mo Aini smirked. "If you like her, let me give you a piece of advice: My sister likes men who would dominate her and assertively claim her. Take my suggestion of punishing her seriously. I know her best, she likes those things."

Mo Aini waited for She Haoran's response, catching his breath. There was a long pause and the two just stared at each other like they were battling without words.

Eventually, She Haoran broke the silence. "Alright. I believe you. You seem to be truthful with your words. And you were right, I do like your sister. I wanted to own her since I first saw her."

Mo Aini's face brightened. "Then you would follow my advice?"

"No."
