Gone

The knife went straight through the heart as Azrael gasped. I looked up at her just as she looked down at me. We held each other's gazes for a long time, I had no idea for how long until she fell to her knees, unable to stand from the blood loss.

I didn't bother moving as my hand slipped away from the knife. I watched as Azrael looked at me with wide, fearful eyes but my hardened expression never faltered.

I wanted Azrael to know that I had no regrets about what I had just done. I wanted her out of the way and this was the only way.

Besides, I don't think it would be too much of a problem for Azrael. She had spent centuries in Hell, I'm sure she wouldn't mind a change of scenario for a few decades.

Her head fell to the ground with a thud near my feet. I looked down at the knife protruding from her upper torso. I bent down and grabbed the knife.

My dark creatures seeped out of my soul through my hands. It floated above her and absorbed inside her body.

This was to make sure that her soul was gone. Azrael was too clever, I had to make sure everything goes smoothly.

I closed my eyes, imagining the darkness travelling through her veins. I felt a high burst of power from some places and directed the creatures to absorb that power whenever I felt it.

Finally, when my creatures had inspected every nook and cranny of Azrael's body, I took out the knife. My creatures sprang out and went straight into my soul.

The power that they had collected and strengthened me to some extent. I turned my knife over my hands, watching my blood-covered face reflect on the cool, shiny surface.

I used Azrael's tattered cloth to wipe the black blood covering the knife.

'Goodbye,' I whispered as I stared down into his eyes for the last time.
