Chapter 7 A Mostly Normal Day

Today was the first day in a long time that Amy could live a normal life. Too bad Amy didn't know what that meant.

Amy had spent the last 5 years of her life in an asylum. The year before that she was living with her mother's old Nanny, Nan Sharp... and she was a prostitute. Amy did go to school but that wasn't quite right... somehow? Amy had no idea how to describe it... not really. But regardless she was now able to walk and talk on her own and she probably won't be having any hallucinations. She was a mostly normal teenage girl. Which was a first for Amy. Mostly normal as... well most girls probably aren't magical girls. Though if she started talking about that to anyone else that wasn't Kanbey... she would probably be sent back to Rutledge, and ironically, they would deem her current state as a huge improvement. Even if they thought that the magical girl thing was just a delusion with... hallucinations. Witch's labyrinths sure looked like hallucinations. Or a bad drug trip. She had one of those once. Her medication got mixed up one time at the asylum and that was an interesting afternoon.

Amy wandered the streets of the near by town. She thought she saw a sign that labeled the town as "The Village of Book End" but that sounded more like a tourist attraction than an actual town so she didn't pay it any mind.

Amy ended up finding herself at a building with a giant hat and a tea pot coming out of it. Outside there was tables with chairs but instead of umbrellas, it was tea cups. Amy ended up finding a sign that read "Wonderland Haberdashery and Tea Shoppe".

What the fuck is Haberdashery?!

It sounds tasty.

That is not what Haberdashery is. Haberdashery is one of two things, men's clothing and accessories or small items used in sewing like buttons, zippers and thread. Amy didn't know what Haberdashery meant, but with the context of a tea shop, she assumed it was food. It was one such word she just never heard before and had to come up with the meaning. Like Bandersnatch. What the fuck is a bandersnatch? As a result of having no clue, somewhere in her wonderland is a face stealing, shape shifting monster. Because she guessed that bandersnatch somehow meant face stealer. Cause snatch means to take or steal. And she had no clue what bander is. Unlike the word bandersnatch, she had no idea what haber or dashery was. But since it is in the context of a tea shop, she guessed it was a kind of snack like tea sandwiches or tiny treats.

When she came inside, she was almost instantly met with,"Haberdashery is not food," from a familiar voice.

"Then what is it then?!" Amy questioned, throwing her arms in a questioning manner.

"Not food," Maddie replied once more. "Its little clothing trinkets or men's clothes, depends on the area in question."

"Who sells clothes or bits and bobs with tea? You're gonna drink a needle if someone is not careful!"

"We don't sell... sewing needles." The purple eyed girl seemed genuinely surprised by that. "And they aren't a fluid. You can't drink a needle."

"You can drink pills."

"No... that is not how that word works."

.....

After a bit of snacks and an explanation on how it does make sense to sell tea and needles in the same store because its run by the mad hatter (a mad hatter to Amy, but she wouldn't ruin that girl's vibe), who makes hats and sells tea, Amy decided that if Blondie or whatever her name was wasn't gonna help her with furniture problems, she was gonna fix it herself. She also just didn't know what she needed. But she was informed of school supplies she might need so she was gonna start with that. Her classes were Arts and Crafts so art supplies were a must, Cooking Classic and Home Economyths... were they both cooking classes? They couldn't be if she was in two at the same time but she was pretty sure home ec was something she was taught at her childhood school...

Wait... no...

Amy shook her head. She couldn't quite recall going to school or at least not enough about it... It was like a bunch of pieces, that said she did go to school. But something about that was wrong... maybe it just that she barely remembers school so she isn't sure what she did in it. It has been 5 years in an asylum after all.

Well after that will be Muse-ic Class which she was pretty sure was just music but punified, so an instrument and probably a book of sheet music was needed. She had no fucking clue what Damsel in Distressing meant and she was coming to the realization that she might have 2 home ec classes... was one just normal home economics and the other was an evil version? What was the point of that? The fuck do you need for an evil home ec class? Maddie told her potions and evil magic things for that class but it was still weird.

Her first stop was... well it was the other part of the Haberdashery and Tea Shoppe. She likely did need sewing supplies after all and the Mad Hatter was willing to work with her in obtaining buttons, thread and ribbons however she had to go somewhere else for the other things, so she was directed to Throne Furnishings and the Village Mall.

While at throne furnishings, she noticed a bunch of furniture items but it also had text books and instruments and other supplies, which was great for her school shopping. She hoped that they took teeth as well. She wasn't sure but the Mad Hatter seemed to accept the teeth she offered as payment. Amy had gathered a few things, after having trouble with the shopping cart; several note books, a flute which she didn't know how to play, a sewing kit, a sewing machine, a cauldron as she apparently needed one, kitchen supplies... mostly for the cauldron, a small portable oven top thingy (once again, for the cauldron), a few music books, and electronic keyboard, construction paper, glue, scissors, crayons, colored pencils, a sketchbook, and she had no idea what she needed for Damsel in Distressing and she was pretty sure she didn't need cooking things for outside of cooking classic, but using the stuff for the cauldron shouldn't be THAT bad...

Amy wheeled up the cart to the cashier, who scanned all her items with a gun thingy that shot out a red beam that made beeping sounds when it interacted with something on the items. And when the total was said out loud, Amy produced a bag of teeth with her magic. The cashier looked at Amy in horror as Amy plopped the bag of teeth onto the counter.

"What?" Amy asked out loud upon seeing the terror of their face.

"What are the teeth for?"

"To pay with..."

"Why teeth?"

"To pay with," Amy said again to clarify.

"Where did you get the teeth from?"

"Don't worry about it," Amy spoke. Now she just sort of summoned this with her magic. And to her it was like asking someone where they got the money from. She was not understanding that you can't pay for things in the real world... with human teeth. That may be true in mom's stories but not in reality. She was not understanding how horrifying it was to a normal person to plop a bag of human teeth onto the counter, even if they didn't come from anyone's mouth. "Shit, is this not enough?"

Amy then took the bag, and placed a new bag of teeth but these ones were golden in color and seemingly made of metal. The cashier seemed more accepting of these teeth instead of the original ones, making Amy take a mental note that she should be paying with golden teeth cause things are more expensive here and that teeth aren't at the value she thought they were. She did not realize the reason was that the cashier saw that these teeth were fake and that they didn't want to ask any strange questions as they were now convinced Amy got these from a dentist or she might be a gang member that collects teeth. Naturally no one should be paying with teeth, and the fact that this child was... made them very wary of her. Though prehaps golden teeth were worth something in coin... its just... that is a lot of teeth regardless...

.....

Amy found herself back in her dorm. She didn't remember what she did to this room... Or the rest of her day infact, as it was sunset. But she could see what she presumed were her efforts. The room was no longer as barren. Personally she wasn't sure what the fuck she did to this room. She knew she did something but if she was conscious for it... her room wouldn't look like this.

There was now a rose bush in the corner of her side, seashells were now embedded in the walls, she had a desk now but the desk itself acted as like the axis of two large gears... she was positive her new desk could roll, that's not good... Her bed was also different too, there was metal... circles? She didn't know how to explain this bed beyond probably Asian, and kind of a canopy bed. Though she did also now have a privacy screen that had cats on it, said screen clearly also being Asian (she would say Chinese maybe but she was sure Japan also have similar screens). She also had a bunch more stuffed animals on her bed than just her rabbit, Mr.Bunbun. Also, the wierdest thing in her room, was the broken mirror she now had. Why the fuck would she buy a broken mirror? Did it break on the way here? The mirror was against the wall, facing away from her, almost like she was trying to hide the surface of it, but she could see the cracks and the reflection of the other side of the room from her bed. The things she knew she bought were tucked away in their new proper places such as with art supplies in drawers in the desk, the cauldron was ontop of the desk along with her notebooks, sketchbook and music books. She also had normal pencils, she just realized she forgot to buy regular pencils.

Amy wouldn't have decorated the room this way. She didn't know if she would have bought this mismash of things. She probably would have still bought the stuffed animals. She briefly pondered if she actually bought this or if she created it. If she made it then somewhere in her head these things exist....

Why was she still blacking out? That was the only explanation for her lack of memory between the school shopping and suddenly finding herself here. Wonderland was safe. Nothing bad happened to disrupt it since making her wish. Was the black outs a consequence? No... they happened at least once before making her wish... So were they something else? Perhaps fatigue? No... probably not. She couldn't help but groan as she was excited for a normal day but now most of it seems to have passed her by, she didn't remember most of it. That couldn't be normal... maybe that is what she should have wished for... she didn't know but she felt tired. A nap... or just plain old sleep was probably fine for now.
