Chapter 1: Invisible fragments

001. Invisible Fragments

"Move the zone is closing in! Why are you just standing there bruh!?"

"I'm going, and Jiang Siming are you a bot!? Why are you heading inside the zone?"

"Don't worry about him; he's probably occupied. I'll move with Mr. Wang and run from the zone. Mr. Wang, sit tight; I'll be your driver!" Another teammate adds.

...

Through his budget headphones, Jiang Siming in the Internet cafe stared at his computer screen, lost in thought.

Three years post-university, working as a real estate salesperson, he found himself gaming with two colleagues and the internet cafe manager, Mr. Wang.

Though his skills were decent, he mostly played a support role as a medic, lacking the skills of his colleagues.

Now, as he sat in the Internet cafe, his computer screen showed something unusual, not a crash or a drop, but a subtle difference.

Running through City P, Jiang Siming spotted a white light flashing.

Initially thinking it was a mistake, he double-checked and confirmed the oddity.

"Hey bro, see that light?"

Jiang Siming pointed to his computer, asking the nearby player, who was munching on chicken.

"Huh, what light?"

"It's this white light, can't you see it? It's pretty bright."

Doubting his eyes, Jiang Siming wondered if he needed glasses or if his vision was staging a rebellion. Perhaps he should schedule an eye checkup soon.

Jiang Siming pointed at his computer again, asking the chicken-munching player, "You sure?" The player, mouth full, glanced at the screen once more and replied with a muffled, "Sorry, I speak chicken, not computer."

"…"

Perplexed but determined to confirm his discovery, Jiang Siming changed course, heading into P City. Swiftly locating the source of the light, he found it in a three-story building.

The city was empty. Unconcerned about opponents, Jiang Siming rushed into the building with the bright spot.

On the top floor, he was astonished.

A white, note-like fragment hovered in the corner, still brilliantly white and impossible to overlook.

Yet, this wasn't part of the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds game, was it?

"Bro look! Is this a new in-game item?"

Jiang Siming exclaimed, prompting his impatient friend to scrutinize the screen. The response was silence.

"Can't you see this huge fragment? So bright! Right here!"

Pointing at the white note-like fragments on the screen, Jiang Siming marveled at the appearance.

"Fragments? There's nothing in this room; are you joking?"

"Why can't you see, is such a big bright fragment, It's right here!"

Jiang Siming pointed persistently, frustrated by his friend's disbelief.

"Fragment? I think you're seeing things!" The man chuckled, a chicken bone in hand. Jiang Siming grinned, "Either I've got eye issues or my computer's auditioning for a pixelated sitcom. Hard to tell."

Jiang Siming wondered if he was the only one able to see this strange thing. No way right?

'My eyes are going poggers'

Driven by curiosity, he decided to examine the fragment and pressed the pickup button, hearing a ding-dong sound in his mind.

[Picked up [98k Proficiency] Fragment *1 (1/1). Fragment inventory full; can be used directly.]

"Use!" He said, without knowing what he was signing up for, whatever right! Part of the game probably..

Despite the shock, Jiang Siming had a growing sense that something was amiss.

Upon using the fragments, his mind was suddenly bombed with memories, particularly regarding the 98k sniper rifle. Details about handling it—aiming through the scope, preemptive shooting, tracking targets, adjusting gun height—flooded his brain.

Startled, Jiang Siming realized he was carrying a pair of 98k rifles. Dont ask why he only has rifles. Eager to test his newfound skills, he wanted to find a target to experiment, but Wang and the others grew impatient.

"What's wrong with you, Acting all foolish? Hurry up, get out the storm, and drop a med kit for me!"

Despite the manager's brusque tone, Jiang Siming, resisting the urge to argue, complied.

Reluctantly delivering the meds, Jiang Siming, urged by colleagues, handed over the supplies. "Giving medicine won't help us much, Jiang. You're just a sidekick without much skills. If one of us falls, you better be ready to cover," advised Wang.

"Sure," Jiang Siming replied nonchalantly before fading into the background.

While everyone received meds, Jiang Siming, maintaining only half health, kept the 98k. Fortunately, they all possessed one already. Luck was on Jiang Siming's side; the sniper rifle remained in his possession. Though it had only a red dot sight, Jiang Siming was confident. Before, he might have used the 98k as a celebratory firework—more sound than substance. Now, with the new memories, he believed he could actually hit targets.

"I see movement! Southeast, heading our way!" Zhou Qiang shouted.

"Stop them, Mr. Wang, your marksmanship is top-notch. I'll advance and draw their attention, then you can clean them up," flattered Yuan Bing, another colleague.

With the enemy closing in, Jiang Siming embraces the stealthy role, cradling the 98k like a secret he can't wait to reveal.

After a while, a full formation came to the southeast, but it was still a little far away.

When Zhou Qiang and the others saw the equipment on the opponent's body, their expressions became serious, the opponents were all well equipped!

There is also a black eye-catching helmet on one of the guy's head. It's like the accessory is auditioning for a role in a virtual fashion show, stealing the spotlight and making all the other helmets jealous.

"I'm taking the shoot! But the equipment on the other side is too good, it's a bit hard to kill."

** Armor is able to resist a lot of bullets, it is very difficult to kill the opponent in seconds.

Bang!

At this time, a bullet broke the silence, and it was shot by Wang Jun.

Wang Jun thought he could be able to hit the shot, but he missed. Exposing their position.

Zhou Qiang and Yuan Bing were both beeping dogs in their hearts, but naturally they wouldn't speak out, so they could only shout and start shooting.

The hurried shooting had very little effect. The three people didn't even kill one of them, so the enemy team reacted and ran under the bunker to hide.

Some even threw grendades to counterattack.

Wang Jun's hearts trembled as they were blown away by the precision grenades, and Wang Jun was almost killed.

"Should we run away? This team seems good..." Zhou Qiang said to Wang Jun, lying on the ground.

"Alright, team, luck's decided to carpool with the other guys today. So, after we gear up, we will fight them later." Wang Jun did a emote – waving the surrender flag like he's done with adulting, and ran.

EN: Editing this from MTL…holy is it a pain to do it. But anyways, there is someone already who did do this, but dropped it, so might as well take that person's place.

And as to why im doing it? Found the fanfic interesting, so gonna read it after fixing things around, though takes the joy away since already read it multiple times when editing it but whatever.

And also, is not going to be a complete copy and paste, I will use words that I want, and heavily edit it. Going to be also adding in my own dialogues, jokes, and what not.

Probably also exclude the typical Chinese nationalism and racism in their novels.. or the typical, "COUNTERING DEATH!?" type of BS.

So in a way this is like a fanfic of a fanfic but not to much.

Thanks for reading!

Till next time!
