-Story Start-
No sound.
No smell.
No sensation.
The pleas of Alex's supernatural Instinct went unheard, and then...
His monstrous aura flared up automatically in response to the sudden invasive force encroaching on his body.
Whatever it was...
Bypassed that meager defense without pause.
It slithered inexplicably, grasping at his very essence, his very soul.
Latching onto it with tendrils, primordial mockeries of limbs...
It pulled.
And agony ensued.
Alex roared out in an outcry of baffling suffering as that invasive force was trying to pull something out of his soul.
At his essence being grasped so tightly; Alex's strength to attempt any resistance was thwarted with ease as the invasive aggressor continued his role.
Tears welled up in Alex's eyes, as he struggled to make some sort of stand, failing to even hold on to Excalibur, the blade leaving his tight grip and dropping on the ever-shifting matter he lay on.
It was short yet unimaginable misery.
Whatever the aggressor was trying to pull out of Alex's Soul... didn't come out at all.
And it was when Alex's first line of defense; Aura failed...
That Avalon took over.
Motes of light from the Everdistant Utopia covered Alex's body as the invasive force grasping at his soul was ejected with effortless ease.
Alex's Dragon Aura Core thrummed as his shuddering figure felt an immediate sense of relief from the unimaginable pain he had just gone through.
A sense of relief unlike any other, one that could only be credited to one of the two Noble Phantasms that stuck to his side.
Resolving himself swiftly to never experience that sensation ever again, Alex's body shot up with great strength.
With a sharp exhale of determination so unlike him, Alex decidedly opened his eyes to face Purgatory:
A Purgatory he never asked for.
An enemy he never wanted to fight.
But a situation he had to face nonetheless.
Lest he feels... that again.
...
He lowered himself to clutch onto Excalibur laying in the greenish-purple shifting matter with a tight grip.
Lifting his head, he finally took in the scenery and the enemy he had to face.
And what he witnessed...
His eyes twitched, and his grip on Excalibur shuddered, the repercussions of the perversion of his Soul had still taken a toll on him.
A feeling of pure disbelief, exasperation, and bubbling rage overtook him. "A month here, isn't this... too much?"
Alex wasn't one to linger in self-pity, and while he had imagined Purgatory to be quite bad.
The sight in front of him...
Threatened to shatter his psyche.
This was a realm beyond human comprehension:
It wasn't a scenery he'd wish on anyone...
He was not in a fiery Hell - scarred by inextinguishable flames that burned the soul.
He was not in a frozen Hell - with souls suffering frostbite for all eternity.
Not a forest.
Not a mountain.
Not a desert.
None of those.
He was on a floating island made up of that paradoxical ever-shifting material.
Below him, were many more similar islands with differing shapes and sizes.
Above him, it was a similar sight, however...
There was no sky.
Instead of a sky, Alex was met with endless variations of islands some larger than others made up of that strange primordial matter.
No matter how his enhanced eyesight looked beyond, there seemed to be no end to them.
...
But there were disturbing standouts to mind-boggling yet tame sight:
The only source of light was numerous gigantic beams of light that towered infinitely up and below which decorated the empty space between the floating islands.
What appeared to be malformed human figures with an ethereal quality crawled helplessly yet starved towards the Light - dragging alongside them a chain and something dark, heavy, and impure.
Endless in numbers, they swarmed toward the Light.
Alex immediately noted the differences between the chains.
Some were dragging heavier burdens.
Once they reached the light, depending on the burden they carried they either rose up in the gigantic beam of light...
Or fell down due to the heavy burden of those impurities they carried.
...
What disturbed Alex so greatly, however, was the method by which those impurities were tied to those... husks.
The endless screaming had continued, and finally, Alex could pinpoint the source.
Those very same husks now looked much livelier, more willful, less... starved.
That was until those... Abominations and the very being that stood in front of Alex got involved.
Tangible and intangible.
Shifting in shapes and sizes.
Squares, Hexagons, Triangles, and even beyond the 3rd dimension.
Eyes.
Tendrils.
Arms.
Feet.
Tails.
Fins.
Ears.
It wasn't a question of whether this... abomination was a mechanical or biological living being.
Its very existence put into question the very concept and went beyond the boundaries and limits of what a living or intelligent being really is.
...
'The system lied.' Alex could only dreadfully confirm as that very thing approached and he noted from afar the poor souls being... perverted by that thing.
It didn't laugh as it 'gleefully' operated on the unshackled dead.
It lacked emotion.
It clearly lacked a brain.
Hell, it barely had a body - ever-shifting and similarly purplish-green like the primordial material that constructed this place.
As it approached, Alex struggled to suppress the uncontrollable fear reverberating from his soul.
His indifference fractured under the weight of... those.
In a way, he'd have preferred it be intelligent demonic beings as he'd at first assumed and not... these things.
Those could be ignored like Alex had planned, perhaps even reasoned with...
These are vastly more terrifying.
Yet, the miracle he held in his hands thrummed reassuringly, prompting him to lower his head and stare at it once more, the abomination getting ever closer.
He suppressed the shiver in his grip, at the reassurance of Humanity's Hope itself, stating a genuine, "Thank you."
With a burst of speed, the enigmatic ground cracked beneath him, only to quickly shift into liquid and restore itself.
Alex swung Excalibur in a diagonal slash - his first sign of resistance against the punishment brought so unfairly upon him.
To Be Continued!
-Author Note Start-
To be honest, I was planning on writing a bulkier chapter a little later after writing my MHA & Mushoku fic a few chapters.
But consider this little nibble a bonus I wrote with a lil time and motivation on my hands lol (Praising me works for some reason, I feel like a dog XDDDDDDDDDD)
The 'schedule' is the same, so expect the follow up chapter pretty soon.
Now I did say 2-3 chapters, but that was meant for 2-3k word length chapters.
So it's still roughly 2-3 chapters left for this lil Purgatory arc.
Anywho! Hope you've enjoyed the chapter, little has happened but I used this one to express the world a bit.
Next chapter is Alex fighting the Eldritch Abomination.
After that it'll be him surviving the damned place as he discovers it's no-so-subtle secrets.
Bu bye!
Love ya!
If ya'll feeling frisky and rich you can donate to my P. A .T R 3 0 N to show some nice and kind support - This is purely support no benefits except early chapters (That I do not do yet properly lmao) which will eventually be available for everyone... like a twitch donation typa thing.
