"People rarely get the death they deserve," Alrin said. "I was going to be executed anywaybetter to die doing my duty than as a criminal."
"Executed I do not think his Majesty was going to be that harsh. Banished, perhaps, but not executed."
"Then he would have been a fool." Alrin drained his tea. He brewed a second cup, scowling at it throughout. "I was always a liability. We all knew that."
Korin's mouth tightened. "No one should be punished for what they are. You have as much right to be you as any of us. And you can't say you're too dangerous because there are fifteen men a thousand times more dangerous than you out there right now. You might be obsessive, but they are demons. You will kill to protect. If they lose control, they will kill for the pleasure of killing. You don't see the king executing them."
"Håkon would say otherwise," Alrin said quietly. "They're always killed if they come out of the Blooding too much a demon."
