When he was gone, Alrin motioned to the guards standing duty. One of them slipped inside but reappeared almost immediately and waved for Alrin to pass. Stepping through the flap, Alrin bowed low. "Highness."

Telmé sighed. "Sit down before you fall down, Captain." He waited until Alrin had done so, then shoved a cup of tea across the table. The bittersweet smell of melbark tea with honey wafted over him. Alrin curled his hands around the rough clay cup and lifted it, drinking the scalding tea down in one swallow.

"Thank you, Highness."

"Captain, for all that I want to throttle you right now, I do not want to see you dead. Between all your shifting and the berserking, I am impressed you are on your feet already—but you have the tenacity of a Prince, I swear. Unfortunately for all of us, you are too much a dragon."
