Doran didn't realize how much he missed school until he arrived at the Citadel.

It was so nostalgic, waking up in the morning and walking half asleep to class, forcing himself to pay attention to what the teachers were saying when all he wanted to do was sleep another two hours. Copying so many notes that his hand hurts from writing and the feeling of stress when the teacher speaks faster than he can write. After the bell finally rings announcing the end of class, quickly gather up your notes and run across campus to the next class, which more than once is on the other side of the building much to the annoyance of the students.

And after several hours of intense studies, gather with all your friends in a large room to have lunch and complain about such or such professor. Lunch was his favorite part of the day, at a large table in the dining room Doran sat with his uncle, cousins and friends. They talked about his lessons and exchanged gossip.

Lunches were always too short for them, the bell rang and it was time to continue with more lessons. After the last bell of the day the students were free to do what they wanted, some spent the rest of the afternoon with their friends, others studied or did their homework,...

Lewyn and Michael preferred to spend the afternoon training with their friends, Theoden sometimes joining them and other times spending the afternoon reading in the library. Luca always disappeared somewhere to practice his musical skills.

And Doran spent his spare time exploring the libraries or going into the privacy of his bedroom and practicing his magic.

As he grew older, Doran realized that his magic was developing much faster than that of a wizard boy from his old world. At six years old Doran believed that his magic was as developed as that of a ten year old, allowing him to practice some low level spells.

The prince also began to notice more and more differences between the magic of this world and that of his old world, the magic of this world is much more wild and primitive, more uncontrollable and unstable.

`Magic is like a wild beast, if left alone it becomes more and more primitive but if you use it it tames it and becomes more docil and refined.` Doran concludes that due to the lack of practitioners the Leylines were not refined.

Leylines are like veins that run through the world, those 'veins' carry immense amounts of pure magic. When many magicians practice their craft continuously for many centuries the magic carried by the Leylines becomes more tame and refined, and practicing magic becomes much easier as a result.

But when the Leylines are so wild and crude, practicing magic becomes more difficult, much more concentration is needed for the spells to work.

Three years ago Doran couldn't even summon a tiny flame in his hand but now he can do that and more.

"Igni." He whispers, holding out his palm.

In his hand appeared a small orange flame no bigger than his fist. Doran concentrated on the size of the flame, he thought of adding more oxygen and the flame increased in size until it reached the size of his head.

"Phew." Sighing wearily, Doran clenches his fist, putting out the flame. "I can keep a small flame for five minutes, but increasing its size consumes too much energy." Doran flops onto his bed and stares irritably at the stone ceiling.

Doran can turn the candles in a room on or off with a wave of his hand, he can also increase the temperature of his food reheating it, or raise the temperature of a room a few degrees. It's not much but it's more than he expected to be able to achieve at six years old, the prince thought that he wouldn't be able to perform any magic until he was ten years old at least.

`That's what I can do with fire, I can also use some other basic spells with some difficulty`

Doran has been improving his control over his magic in order to master some spells that he will need on his secret mission in the Citadel.

The prince explored all the buildings and towers in search of magical artifacts and after studying the plans of the Citadel and combining that information with what he got from his exploration, he found several secret rooms. Those rooms are locked and in order to open them Doran needs a certain spell.

`Exploring a school for secret rooms, how nostalgic` he thinks wistfully as he chuckles.

Alohomora, also called the opening charm, is proving more difficult to master than the prince expected.

`Elemental magic is easier than enchantments, and transfiguration seems impossible. I couldn't even change the composition of a splinter, transforming objects seems like a distant dream, and becoming an Animagus again seems as possible as seeing Ron or Hermione again.` Doran feels his eyes water at the thought of his friends, even after all this time he still misses them. Exploring this new world is amazing but Doran knows that everything would be even greater and more fun if they were next to him.

The wizard made new friends but none of them will replace the other two-thirds of the Golden Trio.

`At least the potions are easy to make, all I need are the ingredients.` He tries to cheer himself up, taking his mind off his friends. He knows that nothing good will come of losing himself in melancholy.

`How wrong was I, this world has nothing muggle about it.` Doran takes his mind in another direction, thinking about the magic of this world. `Everyone has at least a hint of magic, this world is populated by humans who are something in between squibs and mages, but something prevents them from being fully mages, something ties their magic.` He thinks with a grimace, as he grew up his magic senses tuned more and more and he realized that all the people around him have magic, some as much as a squib but many almost as much as a wizard. But there is something that prevents them from being able to use it.

'It's as if their magic is dormant, it's there but it's sleeping doing nothing.' Doran wonders if wizards in this world have to go through some ritual to awaken their magic. `Or maybe a traumatic experience? No, if it was that there would be tens of thousands of mages roaming around. This world is quite dangerous for the average human and there are few who have not experienced at least one traumatic thing.`

Doran spends the rest of the afternoon thinking about how to awaken their magic.

'It would be nice not to be the only wizard in the family,' he thinks to himself before falling asleep.

Note: I hate writing titles. Sometimes I have good ideas and sometimes I spend 10 min thinking about it and nothing, that is when I say screw it and write first thing cames to my mind.
