Chapter Six

Doryu wakes up to the sound of explosions in the distance. The faint outline of white magic circles can be seen above the trees, "the war is getting closer" Doryu thinks to himself. He heads deeper into the forest, trying to get the noise of flowing water and skittering creatures to drown out the backdrop of war.

"What are you humans fighting about this time?" Lunia asks.

Doryu ponders for a moment, he considers telling her about Armenia and Crestfall. Magicules found on the Eastern border brewed into disputes that warranted blood. A finger's length of pure magicules could be fashioned into an A-class staff, a deposit could fashion an army. He tries to explain this to the dragon.

"So the usual," is Luciel's only reply.

The further Doryu heads into the forest the darker it becomes. The trees grow taller, the leaves darker and thicker, until sunlight is a forgotten dream as Doryu makes it to the deep end of the forest.

"I have always been meaning to ask, why did you seek my power boy?"

"So I can run away from danger." Is Doryu's response.

"You would sell you soul to a mythical monster than take your chances with humans?"

"At least dragons keep their promises." the boy whispers underneath his breath.

Doryu picks up the pace as he dives deeper into the forest.

A war is nearing its end outside the forest, as generals on both sides start getting desperate. Blood is drawn and contracts signed, as monsters locked away in the depths of history by mankind's most noble, are about to be released from their prison by the worst of men.
