Joe smiled sadly at the white envelope in his hand. He then looked up at Nhola who was standing restlessly in front of his desk.
"What is this?" asked Joe even though he knew very well what was in the envelope.
"Resignation letter." answered Nhola slowly.
"Why? You want to get married? That's why you stopped working? Is that so? Your man won't let you work here? What do you do?"
Nhola took a deep breath and shook her head slowly. That's not what happened.
Nhola just felt bad and heavy if she had to keep meeting Joe. He knew how hurt Joe was because of it.
"So what's the reason?" Joe stared intently into Nhola's eyes.
"I don't want to make you sick every time you see me, Joe!"
Joe laughed sarcastically. Nhola was indeed a good girl, so it was not unusual for her to think like that.
