Pretending To Be God

George Sterling, once a successful lawyer turned actor, then turned magician, finds himself in dire straits as the rise of Artificial Intelligence takes away all his livelihoods. As he nears the end of his life, a family heirloom, a mysterious ring passed down from his father, transports him to an unfamiliar world seemingly distant from reality. Upon awakening, George discovers a newfound opportunity that awaits him. Initially tasked with portraying the Wizard of Oz to survive, he delves into this new role. However, as he embraces his new identity, an even greater challenge lies ahead: he must venture into the realm of pretending to be a god. This book uses characters and elements from L. Frank Baum's original Oz series which has entered the public domain and allows me to use them in my original book as long as I do not use the characters and elements from the adaptations that haven't entered the public domain.

8th Circle Threat to Veridiana

[At The Royal Castle of Veridiana…]

"How does it look?" Captain Roland asked, standing behind one of the Wizards of Veridiana, who was carefully scanning the site of the explosion.

The Wizard looked up briefly, his brow furrowed. "I'm sorry to ask, Captain, but how long has it been since the explosion?"

Roland raised an eyebrow. "Two weeks ago. I called you the same day, remember?"

The Wizard stood up, brushing dust off his purple robe. "Apologies for the delay, Captain. The Wizards of Veridiana have been dealing with... internal issues."

Roland's eyes narrowed. "Internal issues?"

"Rebels." The Wizard's voice was low, almost bitter.

"Rebels?" Roland repeated, incredulous. The Wizards of Veridiana were elite—chosen from birth and treated as second only to the King and Prime Minister. Even the royal family didn't enjoy their privileges. Why would any of them turn against the kingdom that worshipped them?
