Chapter 7- A Different Path

Mitchum's Point of View;

There's a reason why I won't go playing detective with him. It already seems like it will lead to the grossest places. I shuddered at the thought of the possibility of digging through the garbage. I don't even like taking out the garbage. I continued to make my way back to the front of my dorm building. When I got there, I saw a girl about my age in blue jeans with a purple shirt carrying five bags. The way she dressed was enough to catch anyone's attention. She wore two of the largest pair of red earrings I've ever seen. Her eyes were also dark brown, similar to her hair but with red highlights.

She then set down all of the bags to look at her phone. She seems to be moving in and looking for somewhere. Maybe I can help. As I approached her to ask, "Hi, can I help you?"

The girl looked in my direction and said "Si, can you tell me... if this is building B-44?"

"Yeah, it is." The girl then had a silent reaction as she smiled then gave herself a fist pump. It made me wonder how long she must have been looking for it to be that excited.

"Oh Bueno, thank you."

She spoke with a Spanish accent which was expected since she looked, Latina. Then she went to pick up her bags. I knew inside the building had stairs so I offered to help her carry some of them.

She accepted the help and as we entered the building I asked her, "Which floor are you going to?"

"The 4th floor."

I already had an idea of where I thought she was going but I still decided to ask, "Would you by chance be heading to apartment 34?"

We were now climbing the stairs and had gotten to the second floor when she said, "Si, I mean yes I am. You know it?"

I now knew for sure so I answered confidently saying, "Yep it's right across the hall from mine."

On our way up to the final floor I introduced myself. We were going to be neighbors after all and who would think I would meet Gail's roommate before she could? The girl told me her name was Alejandra Corazon. She also said her major is in Neuroscience and I told her mine. I also mentioned that I knew who would be her roommate. When we both got to the apartment she opened the door. She had already received a key from the office so thankfully I didn't have to call Gail to open it for us. We both entered the apartment since I had to drop her bags there. This is the first time I'd ever been in here.

It wasn't as furnished as Presley's and my apartment was but it was comfy. The peach walls were highlighted with white on the skeletal foundation blocks. The ground was also similar in that it has white porcelain tiles. Just like me she still had some boxes that were unpacked though. Her furniture arrangement was really what made the difference. Cause hers wasn't protected by covering and her small table in the living room was either in the box or she used that box as it. She had not on the walls yet but she had curtains and they did match the chair. I heard Alejandra say something but my Spanish wasn't exactly the best to really be sure of what it was that she said. But from her expression, I can see that she really did like the apartment layout.

"Este lugar es muy agradable." was a statement she made in Spanish that I was somewhat familiar with.

As I set the bags down I replied, "Yeah this place is really nice."

"Oh wow, you speak Spanish too." was what she looked at me and said.

If only I could have, I would have answered her back in Spanish. I guess this just solidifies that it should be a goal. "Not yet, just a little. I mostly hoped that was what you said."

"Oh I see, keep learning. That's how I learned English. Everything about this place is amazing. How come, Gail, isn't here?" I could agree with her there about the school. The improvements took it to a whole other level.

But to answer her immediate question I said, "Because she and my roommate are examining either an explosion or dumpster diving."

I then looked back over to her and the expression of bewilderment was written all over her face. I laughed it off because I realized what I said would be confusing without a back story. "Gail's fine; she's just hanging out with my roommate. Now he's the one you want to look out for."

She then tilted her head and smiled slightly as she said, "Oh, I think I'm going to like it here. Please tell me more about Gail and your friend."

I was still very tired from the day but I could spare the time to at least try my best to tell her what I did know. So I agreed and told her of the events of the day. But I knew the more time I spent here I was postponing the inevitable. Soon I would have to search my kitchen and cook something since I ate the rest of the pizza. Oh wait, our curfew on campus isn't until midnight so maybe afterward I could go online and find a restaurant that delivers take-out. Yep, that would be safer to do since it is getting late.
