Chapter 13

Krystal's parents spared no time getting their story to the press and the story was picked up by several newspapers, including one in Washington D.C. People around the country

were outraged at the government that was supposed to be serving them. Many letters were sent to the White House and an investigation was ordered by the President himself. All four branches involved received quite a bit of heat, but when they produced the

evidence they had discovered, everything cooled down. They

were allowed to proceed, but were ordered to stay within the

law. The question was, whose law were they supposed to follow.

The White House then began the harrowing experience of covering up the entire incident. In time, the enquiries ceased.

The President then ordered that a special team be sent to periodically investigate the secret organization of the foundation.

Back at the house, Robert had finished Kristal's tour

and asked Kristal if she would like to watch him build something. She was eager. "I'm going to build something for you and I

want you to keep it with you wherever you go." Robert went

to the bench and took a small test tube. He was going to build a small power source. After completing that, he began with

the electronics. Kristal watched intently, never interrupting. Robert finally finished the delicate computer chip program

and turned to Kristal and said: "Scream." She did. "No, louder." Kristal screamed louder and Robert smiled. Kristal looked at

him blankly with the hint of question. Robert had just registered the coded rhythm of Kristal's personal scream onto the computer chip. He then fitted all the components neatly into a small

metal case, providing plenty of cushioning for the power source. Next, he neatly welded the edges, sealing the box completely. Robert had also included an anti tampering device which would melt down all the important components if the case were to

be tampered with. Robert dipped the case in water to cool it

down and handed it to Kristal and said: "This is your personal

protection. It is yours to keep and keep it with you wherever

you go. Whenever you feel you're in danger, just scream and that small

box will paralyze everyone around you for ten minutes.

Do you understand?"

"Yes. Like you made all those people stop moving." "Just like that but remember not to use it unless you really need it cause someone might find out and take it away from you."

"Thank you Robert. Thank you for everything." She gave him a hug

and wished he would never let her go.

It was time for lunch and the refrigerator was empty.

They would have to go into town. On the way, Kristal turned

on the radio, switching the channel for a good rock n roll station when Robert heard the words::' "Emergency news bulletin." He quickly took over the radio and found the station delivering the bulletin: "This news bulletin is being delivered throughout the world. NASA has announced that the worlds oxygen count

is decreasing at an escalating rate. The count has been announced at minus 1% and climbing. Scientists around the world are being urged to try and discover the cause of this potentially dangerous occurrence. The President has urged everyone not to panic until we know what we are dealing with. Other news for the day-"

Robert switched off the radio and began trying to figure out

just exactly what was going on. He finally surmised that it

might have something to do with the draw he had experienced

at the Grand Canyon. They finished their shopping in a hurry

and Robert sped all the way back. He was in need for information. When they arrived, Kristal offered to cook hamburgers and Robert said that that would be fine and said that he was not to be disturbed. He went into the computer room and locked the door.

He explained to the computer about the new dilemma and the computer

had no information to offer. Robert typed in a desire for one hour at

the third level and began the journey. When

he finally reached the third level, he considered what he needed and

then he concentrated on the world as a solar body. The information

arrived in a few moments. The world was a living organism. It not only

had awareness but it had feelings for

all that lived on its surface. In particular, it was still feeling

sorrow for Samuel and Linda and was very upset with

the absence of the new bonding. The bonding had belonged to

the world with its greatest affection. At the center of the earth,

there was a molecular core of unknown composition. This core was

beginning to separate and split into two equal parts.

The resulting effect was unclear, even to Robert. He knew what must be

done. He was not ready, but he would have to endanger his only love.

While Robert was under, the phone rang and Kristal answered:

"Hello?"

"Yes, may I speak to Robert Spencer?"

"No, he's busy right now but you can call back in thirty

minutes."

"That's all right, I'll just hang on. When you see him, please

tell him that the call is urgent! OK?"

"Ok, I'll just lay the phone down. I've got some meat frying. Bye

for now.""

"Ok, don't forget about me."

"Oh I won't" Kristal laid down the phone and went back to

cooking.

Robert was still under and concentrating on what other information he needed. He concentrated on bonding with Kathy and what effect it would have on the world. The information arrived. If, they bonded within forty eight hours, all would become normal again. It was decided. Robert concentrated on Kathy and she appeared before him. He spoke softly: "Kathy,

it's me, Robert." Kathy was on her lunch break, and conveniently alone": "Robert? I can hear you but I can't see you.'"

"I'm speaking to you mentally. Kathy, have you heard about the

oxygen decreasing?"

"Yes."

"It's because of us. We have to bond immediately."

"Do you want me to come to you?"

"No its too dangerous. Can you be at your house at 10:00

PM tomorrow night?"

"Yes, of course. What would happen if we don't bond?" "I'm not

sure but it could be something terrible~"

"I still love you Robert. I don't care about the danger.

I just want to be with you." There were tears in Kathy's eyes and Robert felt intense affection. He thought he felt a tear in his eye, but it was just an illusion. He was not in touch with his physical body. "You must be there Kathy. There may not be a second chance."

"I will go home now and stay there until you arrive." "I will be there my love and we will begin our lifelong amour." The beeping pitch changed and Robert said good bye and followed the beeping back out. He informed the computer of the new information. The computer replied: "If you make

a move now, they may trace you as the cause."

"Yes, I know, but the world cannot be denied no matter the

circumstances."

"I advise you to take precautions."

"I will." Robert left the room and entered the kitchen,

expecting burnt hamburgers. Kristal looked up from the table and said: "There's someone waiting for you on the phone."

"Something smells good." Robert went to the phone and answered:

"Hello?"

"Yes is this Robert Spencer?" "Yes it is."

"Well this is Dr. Clarence Neely and I am calling you for a very

urgent matter."

"Who are you associated with?"

"I am a scientist at NASA. I am in charge of the research

building. Are you aware of the oxygen dilemma?"

"Yes"

"Well I must let you know that I have access to an extensive

report of your abilities and I am pleading to you for any information

you can provide. The oxygen depletion has reached

2% and is still climbing. If it continues, the whole world

is in grief danger of suffocation. Can you give us any information to

help us reverse this terrible process?"

"You realize that any information I give you will draw enormous

attention to me and put my life in even greater danger. Were you

informed that the people who supplied the information you have on me,

murdered one of my closest friends?"

"No, I wasn't aware. It makes me ashamed to be a part

of a profession which sometimes deals in such an abhorrence."

"Listen Clarence, I will give you the information you need but I need your promise that you never received it from

me. "

"I give you my solemn promise." Robert started to reveal the

dilemma but then he stopped and asked the doctor for a pause. Robert

leaned back in his chair and began to think:

"Why should I reveal the greatness of my abilities. This call

is probably being taped anyway." In a few more moments, Robert came up

with a clever farce. He picked up the phone and told Clarence to get a

few sheets of paper and a pen. Clarence did and Robert began: "Write

this down word for word: This is a special message from NASA and

abroad. Tomorrow night, the oxygen level will be at 50%. Everyone

throughout the world will have

to breathe twice as fast to retain the oxygen they need. I

am proud to say that NASA has finally reached a solution. Secretly, we have known for years that the world as a planet

is a living organism. Like man, it cannot live alone. As we depend on each other, the world depends on us. Love from us

and the animals and plants throughout the surface of the planet. This information has been partially obtained in a rush of recent experiments. With the diminish of our rain forests and the extinctions of many breeds, there is a shortage of love to

be shared with the world. We are now asking the world for a

great gathering to reverse the circumstances before us and

save us from inevitable extinction. Tomorrow at exactly

10:00 PM Central time, we ask the entire world to engage in

the art of making love. We are certain that this influx of

love will satisfy the world's precious need and reverse the process that has already begun. If you don't have a partner,

find one. It is also known that the use of electric devices interrupts the flow of love so we also asked that all unnecessary electricity be cut off at this time. We sincerely ask you to

throwaway your doubts as this is a very serious requisition. We do

condone the use of condoms."

"You want me to send this unbelievable message to the world?"

"You asked for help and I gave it. You alone are now responsible for the future of the world. I could give you proof but there is no time." The Dr. was hesitant. His career was

on the line and his life was on the other. He felt he would trust Robert and decided to take the authority upon himself.

He sent the entire message out and it echoed throughout the world within a few hours. Soon after, Dr. Neely received a

call from the president and Dr. Neely assured him that the message was legitimate. The world accepted the message with doubt but everyone was aware of the oxygen problem and they were at least glad that someone had offered a solution. Singles around the world were searching for a momentary date. Even

the children wanted to be involved but most of them were warned to stay at home. Some of the businesses around the world had already shut down and many others followed as regular activities ceased operation in preparation for that solemn occasion. It

was going to be a worldwide love affair.
