Chapter 53
The drive was pretty uneventful. Lizzie insisted on putting on our CD, and I sang along a little. Even Casey and Levi joined in.
Casey didn’t think he had a good singing voice, but I’d always thought he was nice to listen to. I could imagine him, single spotlight on a stage, nothing but him and his guitar, just singing huskily into the microphone.
Karen dropped us off at the car rental place, which only had two vehicles left. I made sure to give her gas money, which she refused, so I ultimately gave it to Lizzie to give to her. Then we all took a picture with them and they went on their way.
Kennedy and Levi took the little Nissan they had left, leaving me and Casey with the big truck. I clambered in the driver’s seat, feeling almost like I did when I had first learned to drive. It had been months since I’d driven anywhere.
