Chapter 25

“You okay?” Casey looked at me closely while we stopped at a red light.

I didn’t realize I’d let out a few tears until I felt one drop onto my arm. I quickly wiped my eyes. “I think so.”

“That was really brave of you. I’m really proud of you.”

“Can we talk about something else?” I stared straight ahead, wanting to just completely forget about all my feelings at that moment. “Anything? Please?”

He immediately switched gears, forcing happiness. “You excited for your flight? You get to head back to Nashville to record!”

“Oh, for sure. Omar moved me to first class so I’d have more leg room.”

Casey’s hand found my thigh and rubbed it quickly. Probably more comforting me from the phone call. “That’s awesome, dude. Get your champagne on and all that.”

We pulled up outside the apartment and went inside. I packed my backpack with a few changes of clothes, some underwear, and several pairs of socks.

“Just take a suitcase, Nick.”
