Time To Grind!

Back home, John embraced the comforts of a lazy day, fully committing to what he jokingly referred to as his "fat house life." His essentials were in place: a cold can of Coke, a movie ready to stream, his trusty Gameboy in hand, and his favorite beanbag.

"Mom, I'm not going out!" he muttered to himself, settling deeper into his chair. This was the life—a fortress of solitude where he didn't have to worry about anything other than leveling up his Pokemon.

After picking a movie, tossing ice into his Coke, and ordering some takeout, John fired up his Gameboy. He was determined to prepare for his next challenge. The lessons from the four Gyms he'd already beaten were clear: the Gym Leaders became stronger after a failed attempt. He wasn't about to repeat the mistakes of his past by rushing in unprepared.

"This time, I'll grind until my team is unstoppable," John resolved.

The next Gym on his journey was the Petalburg Gym—a Normal-type haven, led by Norman, the protagonist's father and a man revered in the Hoenn region. In the manga, Norman had stood atop Rayquaza itself to stop Kyogre and Groudon from tearing the world apart. But in the games, his strength was more grounded, though still formidable.

"Normal type, huh?" John muttered. "This Gym calls for a Fighting-type powerhouse."

Pulling up his Pokemon menu, he reviewed his options. He had two solid Fighting-types in his roster:

[Hariyama – Level 32]

][Blaziken – Level 36]

During a previous training session, his Combusken had evolved into a Blaziken, and the difference in power was night and day. He smiled as he scrolled through its stats.

[Blaziken (Fire/Fighting)]

[Level: 36]

[Ability: Speed Boost (Increases Speed by one level at the end of each turn.)]

[Moves: Ember, Growl, Tackle, Double Kick, Flame Charge, Detect, Sand Attack, Quick Attack, Aerial Ace, Slash, Cut, Rock Smash, Bounce, Focus Energy, Flamethrower, Blaze Kick, Strength]

[Held Item: Black Belt]

"Blaziken, you're my ace for this one," John said with a grin.

He remembered the training plan he'd received from Flannery's grandfather, Moore—a former Elite Four member. The section on Blaziken had been particularly exciting, detailing a fusion move called Flame Double Kick, which combined the precision of Double Kick with the fiery power of Blaze Kick.

The plan seemed ambitious, requiring complete control over both raw physical power and elemental energy. "This won't be easy," John muttered.

Still, he believed in his Blaziken. Its powerful legs were already a force to be reckoned with, and John was confident it had the potential to master the move.

He quickly set up a training regimen:

Use Quick Attack to train explosive speed.

Spam Double Kick for stamina and precision.

Practice Blaze Kick to refine fire control.

To help, John ordered a flame-resistant training dummy online, designed to withstand the repeated impacts of Blaziken's fiery kicks.

"Blaziken, this is just the start," he said. The Pokemon gave a determined cry, ready to rise to the challenge.

Satisfied with his progress, John turned his attention back to his Gameboy. He had other priorities, like grinding levels for his Steelix, which had proven invaluable in his recent battles. After healing his team at the Pokemon Center, he planned his next move. Meteor Falls was the perfect spot for some training, especially since his Steelix had just learned Rock Slide.

Just as he stepped out of the Lavaridge Gym, he spotted a familiar figure.

[May: Oh, you've already beaten the Gym? I guess for someone like you, it wasn't even a challenge.]

John smirked. "You're not wrong, May. But if you're here for a battle, you might want to reconsider. Blaziken's been itching to show off."

May puffed her cheeks in mock frustration.

[May: Hmph! Don't get cocky. I'll catch up to you soon enough. Just you wait!]

Before leaving, May handed him a small package.

[You've obtained: Go-Goggles.]

"Go-Goggles, huh?" John said, inspecting them. These would protect his eyes from the sandstorms on Route 111, finally allowing him to explore the desert region.

[May: These are for you! They'll help you get through Sandstorms]

The desert on Route 111 was as harsh as John remembered, but the Go-Goggles made traversing it much easier. Sandstorms raged around him as trainers and wild Pokemon roamed the area. John swapped Gabite into his lead position and equipped Blaziken with the Exp. Share to boost its experience gains.

"The usual rules," John muttered, his fingers flying across the Gameboy buttons. "Check out the wild Pokemon, grab all the items, and crush every trainer here."

As he explored, he remembered what made this desert so special: fossils.

"Fossils..." John thought aloud, recalling their importance. These ancient remnants could be revived into powerful Pokemon using the latest tech. He couldn't help but fantasize about the possibilities.

"There's Tyrantrum," he mused. "A literal dinosaur with the Strong Jaw ability. Imagine riding a T-Rex into battle—unstoppable."

Aerodactyl was another contender, especially with its potential for Mega Evolution. "Fast, strong, and just plain cool. You can't go wrong with Aerodactyl."

In the sprawling desert, the sun bore down mercilessly, and the wind carried endless waves of sand, whipping across the terrain. Scattered among the dunes were other trainers, their Go-Goggles gleaming in the harsh light as they wandered through the storm, eagerly seeking challengers. Battles here had a unique edge—Sandstorm weather dominated the battlefield, providing Rock-types with a defensive buff and chipping away at Pokemon unprepared for the harsh conditions.

John silently adjusted his strategy, swapping Gabite into his starting lineup to take advantage of its resistance to the Sandstorm. He also equipped Blaziken with an Exp. Share to ensure it gained valuable experience from the encounters. Following his tried-and-true routine, he prepared to scout the area: identify the wild Pokemon that appeared here, collect the hidden items scattered across the desert, and systematically defeat every trainer in his path.
