A short week after the meeting with Green, Red stood outside the gym alone and he smiled. Brock's Pokemon would be strong but he would brave this challenge and become an even better trainer today.
"I may have lost my first gym battle but I won't lose this one," Red said as he pushed open the doors of the gym, revealing the lobby section of the gym with trainers seated, wanting to register for Pokemon battles with the gym through the attendant but Red got to the counter.
"I want to battle the Pewter city gym leader," Red said.
"Please wait in li-"
"I'm a Quartz Conference contestant and I don't have all the time in the world," Red shot back and passed in the ID, The attendant scanned it and a ledgible name appeared on the screen.
'RED KETCHUM'
"You're Red Ketchum from Pallet town, and a Competitor in the Quartz Conference, amazing," The attendant said and pointed to the door that led beyond the reception to the big room within, The room where the crowd was waiting for an intense battle.
Red pushed past the doors, unlike his first gym, This one was chock full of people all waiting for the next battle and standing on the Leader's platform was a brown haired young man with closed eyes, his body shirtless and toned revealing an extremely physical body.
"Challenger Red Ketchum," Brock said, extending his arms into the air, "Welcome to the Pewter City Gym and since you're a Quartz Conference contestant, I shall fight you with my strong Pokemon!"
Brock's exclamations caused a rowdy exclamation from the spectators as they roared in excitement. Red felt his heart tremble as he stepped on the Challenger's platform but he knew better than to freeze up in front of people.
"And I shall fight you at my full power too!" Red exclaimed, much to Brock's surprise. He was holding out a Pokeball, his figure oozing with confidence.
'Now that's different,' Brock thought, 'He's different from the other competitors I've had, He's literally confident in winning,'
A Referee entered the center of the arena, his white shirt and black trousers a standing outfit. His tongue clicked as he raised his left hand into the air, his right hand voicing into a microphone.
"And Today, We have a Challenger who has come to take the Pewter city gym challenge from the far reaches of Pallet Town... Red Ketchum! And then we also have our very own Gym Leader of Pewter City... Leader Brock! Unlike the other Indigo League challenges that have occurred throughout this week, This will be a Quartz Conference match and is Live on the KantoPKMNLeague page on the Pokeweb!" The Referee said, throwing in advertisement first and foremost, "Now, This battle will be a 2 versus 2 Pokemon battle which will be concluded when the Pokemon from either side have been incapacitated and without further ado... Let this battle begin!"
Red threw out his first Pokeball and Brock did the same.
Two Pokemon appeared on the battlefield, A Riolu and a Rhyhorn appeared on the arena, both Pokemon exhibiting a fierce determination to battle and win for the sake of their trainers.
Red was the first to start, giving the opening move and determined to turn the tides in his favor.
"Riolu, Vacuum Wave!" Red ordered.
He had analyzed the rocky battlefield and saw it didn't work in his favor, so he decided to strike with a straightforward attack that Rhyhorn could not dodge.
The bustling wave of aura shot forward, smashing against Rhyhorn's head but the Pokemon shrugged off the move, Brock let out a smile as he punched the air.
"Start with Harden!" Brock ordered, aiming to strengthen Rhyhorn's status first before going in for attack.
Red's eyes looked at Rhyhorn in shock, The Pokemon had barely flinched at the Vacuum Wave attack that had been thrown by Riolu...
Rhyhorn glowed in a green aura and it dissipated momentarily, signifying the increase in defense.
"And now, Stone Edge!" Brock ordered.
Rhyhorn smashed it's feet against the rocky arena, large rocks shooting into the air and breaking apart into millions of sharp rocks, each letting out a dangerous gleam and then the attacks shot forward, clearly with the intention of incapacitating Riolu.
Red's eyes glowed and then he smashed his knuckles together.
"Shoot forward with Quick Attack and then strike with Force Palm!" Red ordered.
Using Vacuum wave would have been a more wise option but Red couldn't risk the fact that the rocks would be able to bounce out of the trajectory of the attack so he had Riolu go in with Quick Attack.
Rocks smashed against the arena kicking up some dust as Riolu nimbly evaded the Stone Edge attack and closed the distance between herself and Rhyhorn, As she was right in front of the Pokemon, her hands let loose a terrifying red aura and then it smashed against Rhyhorn's head sending dreadful winds of aura backward and a wave of red aura out of Rhyhorn's head.
The Rock Pokemon grunted in pain before pushing Riolu back. Riolu smirked but Rhyhorn emmitted a bright golden aura.
"Take Down!" Brock ordered.
Rhyhorn smashed into Riolu at full power, sending the two Pokemon flying backward on impact, crashing against the arena. Riolu was the first to get back up, not wanting to lose the battle and Rhyhorn stood back up too, His eyes shining as Brock was ready for the next attack.
'The Force Palm worked but it wasn't at full effect... So that Harden was used to up the defense against Fighting attacks as well as harden the armor plates of Rhyhorn for a charging attack,' Red's eyes were wide, his brain thinking a million times faster to try and keep up with Brock's strategy, 'We need a powerful strike and target a single spot to fully exploit Riolu's power...'
His eyes flashed and the intensity of the aura on Riolu's hands was shown, powerful red aura that shook the ground below her.
Red pumped his fist into the air.
"It's time to turn our terrain to our advantage!" Red let out, shocking Brock, "Force Palm on the ground repeatedly!"
Riolu carried out the order, shockwaves erupting throughout the entire arena as Red reminded Brock that he was a different kind of trainer... One that had a dream to carry on.
