Ch.2 Weeding out the spies

'Wait what is a pokemon doing here? Don't tell me.' As I looked around I could see more rocket members standing near the corner like surrounding the children.

The man in the middle who looked like the leader was saying something but my focus was on the Raticate again as a strange screen popped in front of my vision.

I tried to rub my eyes and focus on the Raticate again, but the screen still popped up. Realising what I have and where I am right now filled me with a swelling sense of excitement as I tried my best to not alert anyone here.

'Maybe this world is not so bad.' As I think about all the pokemon I can catch and meet with different types of characters from the games, 'But this is not a good situation.'

As I look around in this slum area, all I can see are children in the middle and rocket members guarding all the entrances.

"I mean it's worth a try." As I walked towards where I came back from which was now guarded by a 20-year-old rocket member with a Zubat on his head.

'Hmm, a pretty low-level one with an average ability but what's the quality thingy?' I can understand the rest of the terms due to the pokemon games but I have never seen something like quality being used in the games.

'That is something I can find out later but right now.' Arriving in front of the dude, I looked at his face but confirmed he was not in any games while he also looked at me with raised eyebrows, "So Kiddo whatcha want?"

"Uhh… You see I forgot to get some of the stuff from my house, so can I get them and come back here real quick." I ask him with the fakest sad face I can make as he just smiled lightly I got my hopes up which were crushed by his next sentence, "Nah, go back in the crowd as either you get out of here as a rocket member or as pokemon food."

'Well, that was useless.' Realising I tried to look around for any escape route as I don't want to start my adventure in this world as a criminal, but sadly all of the entrances were blocked by rocket team members.

"I will be back soon, it's just a little bit."

"No, go back kiddo."

"Please, I mean it's not like I will do anything bad."

"I am saying it last time 'cause my Zubat wouldn't mind you as food." The guy looked at me with a grin while his Zubat was trying to make a creepy smile.

"Being a team rocket member doesn't sound that bad."

"Good now go back as the boss will do the inspection." The guy shooed me away as I got back in the crowd dishearteningly. Some kids were also looking at me with curious gazes but I ignored them and focused on the so-called boss.

"Now I will start the inspection but remember if any of the spies are caught, be ready to become my pokemon's food as they love the meat of children." The boss pulled out one of the Pokeball from his and threw it on the ground, what appeared from it was a Hypno.

'Isn't this a little too dark for something that is supposed to be a world marketed towards kids, also damn he got a Hypno.' While feeling surprised by their crass words which weren't present in pokemon much, I tried to focus on the Hypno as I need to focus for a few seconds to see the pokemon stats.

'Holy it's a pretty high-level one and pretty good nature too.' Remembering that most Psychic pokemon are special attackers so I thought that he got pretty lucky to get that Hypno, 'So far there are three qualities I have seen till now: copper, steel and iron. How many more there are and what do they imply? Ugh, I just want to catch some pokemon real quick.'

Suddenly the boss raised his hands while looking around to see all the faces of the kids present here and then suddenly lowered his hands in a whiplash manner while shouting, "Hypno now!"

The Hypno widened it's eyes as strange waves started emitting from itself as it enveloped the whole area all as the children were stiffed like statues but I was not affected by it at all, still I pretend to not arouse any suspicion but there was one thought going on in my mind.

'It was… fucking cool, ugh it's like almost all my dream came true but… if only if you were here.' As I remember her and imagine both of us going on a pokemon adventure together, I was filled with happiness but sadness too as I knew it was not possible, 'Maybe…'

"Jack and Tom, take the fallen kids out of here as we will interrogate them later and the rest of you follow me as you will be choosing your starters." I was snapped out of my thoughts when the other members started to pick up some fallen children and started to take them somewhere.

"Hmm where are they taking those kids and what happened to them?" I asked the earlier member who stopped me from leaving, and when he heard me and turned to me, he was looking at me with a surprised face.

"Oh so you were not a spy, that was surprising kiddo. Anyway, you don't need to know much, just know they are spies, you will know more once you join us." Hearing his response, I stopped questioning him any further as I was excited to get some pokemon even if they are from criminals.

"You seem pretty excited kiddo as earlier you were looking like a deer in headlights."

"What can I say, I just love pokemon… and team rocket too." I twisted my words at the last moment to not arouse any suspicion, 'Also I will deal with this guy later.'

"That's great to hear as it's more the merrier for us, so what's your name kiddo? Mine is Zack." He patted my shoulder with a huge grin on his face, annoyed I got a little far away from him.

"It's Nile, Nile Williams."
