Kanto - Celadon City

Ash ate his dinner as he watches Jessilina and Jameson talk quietly, he would be lying if he said he was not worried about the two of them. Misty looked like she wanted to say something but thought the better of it and answered Gou's question about Dewpider instead. Horace was talking to Brock about his new bike and the plans he and Gou had about traveling for research for Professor Sakuragi.

Ritchie got Ash's attention, "Are you okay?"

Ash nodded, "I'm fine, but.... "

Ritchie looked at where Ash was looking, "I'm sure they will tell us once they are ready. It's not like we are experts in business."

Ash nodded agreeing, "Yeah, but I can't help this feeling like something is going to go wrong."

Ritchie squeezed Ash's hand in comfort, "It'll be fine. Just focus on the gym and tomorrow's battle for now."

Misty turned to them, "Tomorrow's battle?"

Ash nodded, "Yeah, Paul wants to battle me, he apparently saw my battle with Bruno and was impressed."

Gou, "And now he wants to battle you.. Can I record it?"

Ash shrugged, "I don't mind."

Brock, "Isn't Paul the guy who battled Gary in the finals?"

Horace, "I saw that battle, it was so cool. I can't believe Blastoise won despite the type disadvantage."

Ritchie grinned, "That's our Gary for you, type disadvantage is not gonna stop him."

Phantump climbed Ash's lap at that point looking at the chocolate vanilla pudding, "Pha phaaa."

Ash chuckled, "Just a little okay? I don't want you running around on a sugar rush."

Phantump nodded and opened his mouth as Ash broke a quarter of his pudding off to feed the little ghost type. Pikachu seeing this decided to try the pudding and Ash gave him some as well. The electric mouse tried it and although he could admit it was good he still preferred savoury food. Lucario watched them amused, he preferred the sweet fruit salad himself over the pudding. Misty had to contend with her own curious Dewpider that grew a liking for roasted meat, as it was an omnivorous bug water type. The little spider Pokemon enjoyed sweet fruits and meat a lot although he hated vegetables. The little Corsula however was not so picky and ate everything Brock gave her without much fuss.

Ritchie, "Hey Ash, what's your plan for the gym?"

Ash, "Originally I was gonna go for four on four battle."

Ritchie, "What changed?"

Ash, "Primeape wants to battle too, so now I'm going for five on five I guess, I promised Lucario, Pikachu, Krabby and Charmender I would let them battle."

Ritchie nodded, "Say are your Pidgeot and Fearrow together?"

Ash, "I know Pidgeot has feelings for Fearrow but I don't know if they are together or not."

Gou, "It would be cool if they were."

Ash hmmmed, "Whatever makes them happy, I'll support them. I know most trainers don't like nor allow their pokemon to mate each other because it makes them vulnerable. But if they are happy together, who am I to keep them from happiness."

Misty sighed, "I think it's romantic."

Horace nodded, "Yeah."

Ash turned to Ritchie, "Who do you plan to use tomorrow?"

Ritchie, "Zippo obviously and Spirit wants to fight too, as for the next two matches it's a toss up between Lily and Jumpy. Battling other grass types would be a good experience for Lily and Jumpy well she insisted on battling."

Misty, "That's a good match line up, I know I'm using Starmie and I was thinking Cloyster maybe I'll use Poliwhirls as well."

Brock, "That's a decent line up Misty. What about you Jessilina?"

Jessilina answered absent mindedly, "What?"

Jameson, "Something wrong?"

Ash, "We were asking what Pokemon are you planning on using for your battles?"

Jessilina, "Ah! Well Seviper for one and Bellossom for second as for third and fourth it's a toss up between my Pokemon."

Ash brightened, "You did not tell us you have a Bellossom."

Jessilina smirked, "I saved her from a poacher five years ago. She's one of my strongest."

Misty looked at her curiously, "What other Pokemon do you have?"

Jessilina, "A couple around the world in different places living their life. I think I might use my Slugma for the third battle."

Ash, "I look forward to your battle."

That night when they returned to sleep Phantump pestered Ash to sing for him again and Ash obliged. This time he sang a song called 'All is Found', holding Phantump and Charmender close to him. Ritchie and his Pokemon listened to the song quietly as Ash sang the interesting lullaby to his youngest Pokemons. Ritchie waited as their Pokemon fell asleep to talk to Ash.

Ritchie called him softly, "Hey Ash."

Ash answered back just as quietly, "Yeah?"

Ritchie, "That was a really good lullaby, can you teach me?"

Ash smiled in the dark although Ritchie couldn't see it, "Sure I'll give you the lyrics and teach you to sing. Why though?"

Ritchie looked at his Pokemon who were sleeping peacefully, "My Pokemon really liked it."

Ash, "Alright, tomorrow then, after our battles."

Ritchie, "Good night Ash."

The next day Ritchie went to face Erika while Ash went to face Paul for his one on one match. Brock and Horace went with Ritchie to cheer him on his battle while Misty and Gou went with Ash. Misty offered to referee the match while Gou took out his new camera to take shots after setting his phone up to record the battle. Phantump and Pikachu both sat beside Lucario as they cheered for Ash making Paul blink at the pompoms they were holding.

Misty, "This is a one on one match between Paul and Ash. Trainers please choose your Pokemon."

Paul, "Stand by for battle Electabuzz."

Electabuzz, "Buzzzzz!"

Ash, "Let's do this Charmender."

Charmender, "Char!"

Paul blinked, "I didn't know you had a shiny Charmender. I heard you have shiny Pokemon but I didn't realize your Charmender was one."

Ash made a face, "His previous trainer was a dumbass. Let's leave it at that."

Charmender snorted, "Derrrrr!"

Electabuzz looked at him in commiseration he too knew what it was like to have an abusive trainer. His trainer had left him in the wild as an Elekid and he had struggled to survive before he met Paul. Paul while he was a hard ass trainer he was a good trainer and took care of them well and provided them with everything they needed to get stronger.

Misty, "Begin!"

Paul, "Electric terrain!"

Ash, "Sunny day!"

Misty whistle as the sunlight and electricity clashed, "Terrain and status moves in the start itself."

Gou was giddy, "It's something else to see in effect."

Lucario, -Indeed!-

Pikachu, "Pikapi!"

Phantump, "Phaaaaaa!"

Ash, "Sword dance!"

Paul, "Electric punch!"

Charmender ran towards the bigger electric Pokemon rembering how Lucario had moved using sword dance and how his own mother used it to avoid attacks and deliver it. The little fire type countered the first punch and ran to the side but the electric type didn't stop and sent another punch. Charmender dodged that one and jumped and ran up the electric types arm to his face.

Ash, "Fire fang!"

Charmender attacked Electabuzz with the fire fang making the electric type roar at the sudden pain.

Paul narrowed his eyes, "Thunder shock."

Electabuzz's body cackled with electricity and Charmender let go not wanting to be shocked badly. However Ash could see he was hit by the electric attack a bit.

Paul, "Thunder wave!"

Ash, "Jump using iron tail to the ground."

Charmander jumped to Pikachu's cheers as the electric mouse had been the one to teach him that move. Electabuzz grunted seeing his younger opponent still standing strong and grinned. It had been a while since he fought a strong opponent.

Paul, "Electabuzz shock wave."

Ash, "Charmender jump again and use Dragon breath."

Charmender ran forward with a glowing tail before jumping up again and releasing dragon breath. It was not as powerful as his mother's, in fact it didn't even look like Electabuzz was affected much if the sneezing was anything to go by but that was not the main attack. The next thing Electabuzz knew after sneezing so much, he was blocking a powerful iron tail from the fire starter. The electric type winced a bit at being hit, despite his small size the little tyke can give a powerful hit. Paul watched as Electabuzz was pushed back and Charmender started to glow, it was evolving and the next thing anyone knew there was a Charmeleon in Charmender's place.

Charmeleon, "Char charmeleon!"

Lucario, -Yes!-

Pikachu cheered, "Pikapi!"

Phantump watched awed, "Phaaaaaa!"

Dewpider joined Phantump and looked at Charmeleon in wonder, "Errr!"

Ash grinned, "Congratulations Charmeleon! Now let's finish this so we can get you a check up."

Charmeleon made a face, "Meeeee!"

Ash, "Now now, you know what Nurse Joy said before right?"

Charmeleon grumbled, "Meleon."

Paul, "Congratulations, but you are right let's finish this. Electabuzz thunder punch!"

Ash grinned, "Let's try out one of your more powerful attacks as Charmender, Flare blitz!"

The two powerful attacks hit each other causing a smoke screen to cover the field and the Pokemon from sight. When the smoke cleared electax was smoked and panting while Charmeleon had electric burn and was looking exhausted. After a while both Pokemon crashed to the ground in dead faint.

Misty, "Charmeleon and Electabuzz are unable to battle. The match is a draw."

Ash rushed to Charmeleon, "Charmeleon, are you okay?"

Charmeleon gave a tired grin, "Charme!"

Ash smiled, "You were amazing Charmeleon, your first battle after evolving and you did really well. Get some rest bud, you are getting a treat tonight."

Paul, "Electabuzz?"

Electabuzz shook his head, "Zzzzzzzzz buzz!"

Paul returned Electabuzz, "Get some rest bud, we'll train and become stronger."

Ash, "That was a fun battle Paul, even though it was a draw."

Paul nodded, "Next time I want a six on six battle."

Ash grinned, "Sure!"

Paul, "Well this is goodbye for now as I'll be going home after challenging Viridian gym, the last gym. See you at the league Ash."

Ash, "Paul, a piece of advice. Blue just like Gary doesn't care about type advantage. He probably knows you are a strong trainer and will use one of his stronger teams."

Paul, "No type advantages then... How do you know?"

Misty gave a wry smile, "Let's just say he used to babysit us when we were younger and leave it at that."

Paul blinked before shrugging and leaving, "I will defeat you properly next time Ash."

Ash shouted back, "I look forward to battling you as well Paul."

Gou, "He's a cool guy. And his Electabuzz, man he was tough, even with Charmender evolving and getting a power boost it was hard to defeat him."

Ash nodded, "Let's go to the centre and if Ritchie is not back yet then to the gym to cheer him on."

Misty, "Yeah, I wonder how he is doing, it's his first four on four match right?"

Gou, "Let's go quickly then."

The three of them rushed to the centre to get Charmeleon checked and healed and after fifteen minutes Charmeleon came out ready to go. Ash hugged Charmeleon and congratulated him once again and promised him a nice treat again making Charmeleon rumble at the warm affection. Misty grinned at her best friend and frowned at the three missing friends and sighed. Jessilina and Jameson got really busy after coming to Celadon, they even said they might be too busy to watch them battle. Misty hoped that nothing bad happened while they were in Celadon city like what happened in Saffron as she followed Ash and the others towards the gym.

The receptionist outside the gym asked for their ID before letting them inside when they said they were there to cheer for their friend. As they sat they saw Ritchie's Treeko Lily was battling against Erika's Tangela and was using her speed against the Pokemon. Ash and the others cheered Ritchie and Lily as they wore Tangela down and attacked the grass type with bullet seed knocking him out. The next thing they knew Lily evolved from a Treeko to a Grovyle making everyone congratulate them. Brock mean informed them they were just in time for the second half of the battle making them grin in excitement.
