Leon released Toshi from the pokeball and asked him to transform into an Exploud because of its superior hearing that could detect pokemon and possible enemies since the forest was on the dark side and had dense vegetation.

Leon was able to see varieties of pokemon when he was working at Prof. Oak's lab. So, his Pokemon Records held a vast amount of different pokemon data. He was being cautious out in the wild, afraid of encountering a high level pokemon right off the bat.

Toshi detected a group of pokemon ahead and they went to inspect. It was a group of Aipom up in a huge tree. You could find any "generation" of pokemon in different areas as long as it was within their habitats, unlike the game. However, there were still some that were strictly seen only in specific regions, especially the Monarchs. Leon checked their potential and didn't see anyone noteworthy. They went deeper into the forest.

They heard some noises that resembled a fight and decided to follow it. He saw a Heracross and a Pinsir who were fighting over something. Leon checked their status. The two were at D rank low stage (level 46-50), had A rank (mid) potential and no talent.

Leon decided to catch and sell them because they had an excellent potential with no talent.

Toshi made a quick work to both Heracross and Pinsir. He transformed into a Charizard, used Wing Attack and knocked out the both of them. Leon proceeded to catch them with a pokeball. He wondered what they were fighting about and noticed an egg.

"Whoaaa, this togepi egg must have been a main character of some sort," Leon joked at the absurd stats the egg had. He was wondering who was luckier, him or the egg. He would definitely keep the egg for his team. He had stored the egg in a pokeball designed for poke-eggs to keep it safe.

Leon felt lucky and so he continued his search. He found three A rank (low) potential Oddish and two A rank (low) potential Pigey. He didn't bother catching any B rank or below.

Leon checked that it was almost time for the submission of the items or pokemon to be auctioned at the black market. As he was about to ask Toshi to teleport, he felt a slight drop in his life force. He detected a Gastly playfully draining his aura.

"Hey Gastly, do you want to join me and my partner Toshi? We treat each other like family. I promise to help you grow strong. You can eat lots of delicious food and you can even feed on my aura since you like it so much," Leon approached. Leon always tried to talk to pokemon that he wanted to add to his team. For him, they were not mindless slaves but intelligent and complicated creatures that he could bond with.

"Gastly gastly!" Gastly spun in circles around Leon and rubbed his head in Leon's cheeks indicating that he agreed.

"Alright, I'll catch you in a pokeball. Okay?" Leon tossed a pokeball to capture Gastly without any resistance.

"Toshi, teleport us back," Leon said.
