Chapter 2: First Battle

(A/N: This is my first time writing a Pokemon battle and even in first-person view, so the fight scene might be janky or awkward or just something... I dunno)

"A wild Hisuian Voltorb!"

I gasped and was awed at seeing a familiar Pokemon again in reality. This now makes it three Pokemon that I've seen so far and not one of them did it disappoint me.

And also the fact that I have been transported to the Hisui era. Though, I wasn't exactly surprised since I had some suspicion in the beginning.

I got hinted by the system after all when it gifted me two Hisuian-related things, at that point it was obvious where I was.

Although, there is a nagging feeling inside of me that it wasn't the gifts that made me realize that I was in the Hisui region.

But just like earlier, I'll stop caring about it. I mean, I forgot it then it must mean that it wasn't important for me to remember.

-Voltorb! Voltorb!

It was then, that I saw the wild Voltorb wiggling its body left and right as electricity discharged all around while it stared at me with sharp and glaring eyes.

"...!?"

Feeling hostilities in its eyes, I knew immediately that the wild Voltorb was an aggressive one as compared to the Bidoof I saw earlier, making me realize I was still in the wild with nothing but my Pokemon to accompany me.

- Voltorb!!

The wild Voltorb spun its entire round body, seemingly preparing an attack as I realized that it was strengthening itself to launch a lethal move.

I immediately took a step backward, fearing that I'll become collateral damage to what was about to happen as I ordered Honedge shortly.

"Honedge, Shadow Sneak"

Hearing my shout, Honedge turn into a shadow and dived down on the ground before reappearing right behind Voltorb. It was then, I saw my Honedge unsheathed itself in a blink of an eye before instantly giving Voltorb a mean slash at its back.

- Voltorb?!

I watched at the sight of Voltorb being flung away from the slash, looking in pain as it fell and rolled on the ground afterward.

And I was about to order Honedge to follow up an attack when a familiar ding chimed in at the last second.

[Ding!]

[Wild Voltorb (Hisuian) Lv.7]

"Huh...?"

I was confused for a second before a sound of an electrical discharge coming off from the wild Voltorb snapped me out of my state.

『Thunder Shock』

"...!"

Without a second thought, I concentrated back on the battle and reacted immediately as I shouted at Honedge.

"DODGE!!"

Honedge who has been focused this whole time managed to heed my shout and barely avoided the 『Thunder Shock』as it struck the ground instead.

Crackle~

I heaved a sigh of relief as my Honedge was fast enough to dodge. Though, it seems the wild Voltorb wasn't finished yet.

『Tackle』

"Tch... Honedge, intercept it with Shadow Sneak and follow it up with Fury Cutter!"

Honedge turned shadowy again and dived down on the ground, reappearing behind Voltorb once again.

But this time, the wild Voltorb was prepared as it took a break check and leaped sideways, dodging the slash from its back.

And with a twist of its round body, the wild Voltorb had come face to face with my Honedge, glaring with sharp and aggressive eyes.

『Thunder Shock』

Sadly, the wild Voltorb was too slow as my Honedge had already initiated Fury Cutter first before it could even release its move.

Slash!

The wild Voltorb cried out in pain from the attack, at the same interrupting the move it was preparing but it still wasn't defeated.

And without even me saying, Honedge had already initiated another Fury Cutter but this one had more power and strength than the last one.

Slash!

This time, the wild Voltorb cried out even more as it was flung away in the air.

"Honedge, finish it with Fury Cutter"

In an instant, my Honedge appeared where the wild Voltorb was about land and perform a stance.

And with one swift move, Honedge passed by Voltorb in an instant before it could even reach the ground and unsheathed himself like a samurai who had just finished a duel.

- Voltorb...

I saw the wild Voltorb crash to the ground and roll for a while before its eyes swirled in a vortex, signifying the end of the battle.

[Your Honedge had gained Experience Points!]

"Oh?"

I raised my right eyebrow, not feeling surprised but rather curious instead. So, I did what any normal person would do, I check my Honedge status.

Now that is done, I moved unto more important things such as...

What the hell just happened earlier?

"No..."

I had an idea of what happened, I was just surprised that's all.

I just didn't expect the system to have another function which caught me off guard, that's all. If my Honedge wasn't fast enough then the outcome could have been different... maybe.

Overall, this was a valuable learning experience for me.

From now on, I'll put all my attention when battling and avoid getting distracted.

"Umu"

I nodded my head with a smile, feeling satisfied at the gains I'd gained today.

Moving on to the next problem...

What shall I do with this wild Voltorb... should I capture it?

"Hmmm..."

I have about five Pokéballs currently in my bag and I could easily capture it right now before it could gain consciousness.

But then again, is Voltorb even good?

I mean, I knew Voltorb are known for their self-destruct move in both games and anime.

And with everything becoming real then this destructive move should be even more lethal now... I think.

I really have no idea...

If I knew I was gonna be transmigrated then I should have studied more in the art of Pokemon but sadly it was too late now.

Oh well, what's done is done.

"Come here, Honedge"

Honedge who was hopping and floating around due to his first-ever victory, heard my call and ran over to me like a little puppy... well, in this case, a sword.

"So, what do you think?"

- Shing?

I saw Honedge tilting its entire body as if to express how confused he was at my question.

"Ah... I mean, should we make Voltorb a part of our team?"

Honedge had a thoughtful look in his eyes, hearing my question as he would occasionally glance at the unconscious Voltorb on the ground.

- Shing... Shing...

I saw as my Honedge closed his eyes for a second before opening them and shaking his body from left to right and I immediately knew what the answer was.

"I see... so it's a no, huh"

- Shing!

It seems me and Voltorb weren't fated with each other.

Too bad, then...

I just shrugged my shoulders off and stopped caring about it.

"So... shall we start our journey now, Honedge?"

- Shing! Shing!

"Haha... got it"

I smiled and chuckled a bit, seeing my Honedge overly excited response to my question. It seems I wasn't the only one who was thrilled about our adventure.

And as if Honedge couldn't wait anymore, he started circling me like a fly, attracted to something delicious.

- Shing! Shing!

"Yes, yes... I understand"

I patted Honedge to calm him down but it didn't work at all as he still kept urging me to start and he even change his tactic by relentlessly poking at me with his handle.

- Shing!

"Okay, okay... sheesh"

With one final glance at the unconscious Voltorb and the green grassy field, I smiled and stretched my arms out as I breathed out a mouthful of air.

"Let's go"
