Chapter 76: The Fire and Ice Battle Begins

(The Pokemon League competition continues.)

(on and many of the trainers have finished with their second round matches.)

(Mew is having her match at the Rock field.)

(The crowd cheers with excitement.)

(Misty, Brock, Tomo, A.J. Otoshi, Joe, and Gary are watching Mew who is having her battle now.)

(The announcer says.)

announcer: "Now, the second battle on the Rock field is proven to be an epic battle! With Tom on the red side and Mew from the green side!"

(Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Now Steenee, use Hidden Power!"

(Steenee then performs hidden power and strikes at the red trainer's Arbok, and it's soon knocked out.)

(The referee says.)

referee: "Arbok is unable to battle! The victor goes to Steenee!"

announcer: "What an incredible display my Mew and her Steenee. Now the red trainer has just one Pokemon while Mew hasn't lost a single one!"

(The announcer says.)

(The trainer throws his Pokeball and calls out.)

trainer: "Go Nidorino !"

(With that, a Nidorino comes out of the Pokeball.)

announcer: "And the red trainer chooses a Nidorino!"

(The announcer says.)

(Mew then calls back.)

Mew: "Steenee, return!"

(And Steenee returns to its Pokeball.)

(Then Mew turns to Pikachu.)

Mew: "Alright Pikachu, ready to battle?"

Pikachu: "Pika!" (Sure am)

(Pikachu says.)

(Then runs to the battlefield.)

(The announcer says.)

announcer: "And it appears that popular newcomer, Mew, has chosen Pikachu for her third Pokemon out.

Mew: "Alright Pikachu, give it everything you got!"

(Mew calls out.)

Pikachu: "Pika Pika," (You got it Mew!)

(Pikachu says.)

(With that, Nidorino begins charging at Pikachu.)

Misty: "It's a Tackle attack!"

(Misty calls out.)

Mew: "Get ready,"

(Mew says.)

(Nidorino is getting closer as the announcer says.)

announcer: "Nidorino's leading off with a Tackle attack!"

(Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Pikachu, use Agility."

(Pikachu then uses his speed to dodge Nidorino's attack.)

Mew: "Doing great Pikachu,"

(Mew calls out.)

(Nidorino continues to chase Pikachu.)

(until it goes up a curve around the ramp going up.)

Mew: "Now Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!"

(Mew calls out.)

(Pikachu strikes at Nidorino and hits it with a powerful Thunderbolt.)

(Then Mew adds.)

Mew: "Pikachu, use Thunder Punch, now!"

(Pikachu then charges as its paw.)

(turns to a fist and electricity comes out and nails Nidorino with one hard strike.)

(The announcer says.)

announcer: "Pikachu's Thunder Punch was right on target, and Nidorino is shaken!"

(The referee calls the results.)

The referee: "Nidorino is out of the competition! The battle and the match go to the green trainer, Mew!"

Mew: "Alright!"

(Mew cheers.)

Pikachu: "Pika!" (We won!)

(Pikachu happily says.)

(Misty, Brock, Tomo, and the others are happy to see Mew has won her second round.)

announcer: "And a very happy Mew will now move on to the third round of this Pokémon League competition!"

(The announcer says.)

(Gary smiles and says.)

Gary: "Mew may have won her two matches, but even she knows she still has ways to go. She better celebrate now because the battles are going to get tougher."

(Meanwhile, outside of the stadium.)

(Team Rocket peek out who are hiking in trash cans.)

Jessie: "Oh, what a cruel twist of fate. Thousands are all inside rooting for Mew while Team Rocket is outside rooting through trash,"

(Jessie says.)

(Then Meowth says.)

Meowth: "Let's come up with some plans and get out of these cans!"

(Then James has an idea.)

James: "Say! There's a way we can swipe Pikachu that I know."

Team Rocket: "So, let's all get to work and get on with the show,"

(Team Rocket confirmed.)

(Later in the evening, Mew and her friends are at the Pokemon center.)

(so Mew's Pokemon can be treated.)

(Luckily, Mew is able to show up early.)

(right after her match to get her Pokemon treated before the crowd shows up.)

(Nurse Joy brings the tray that has her Pokeballs and says.)

Nurse Joy: "Here you go. All your Pokemon are in perfect health."

Mew: "Thank you, Nurse Joy,"

(Mew says, taking her Pokeballs.)

(Mew then walks to her friends who are close by.)

Mew: "I'm back. Hope you weren't waiting long."

Misty: "Not at all. Glad you decided to go to the Pokemon Center after your match."

(Misty says.)

Mew: "My Pokemon need to get treated after the match, and I don't want to get caught up in a line,"

(Mew says.)

(Then notices.)

Mew: "Wait, where's Brock?"

Tomo: "He said he'll be waiting for us outside,"

(Tomo says.)

(Mew and the others head outside.)

(and are surprised to see so many Officer Jennies and Nurse Joys.)

(running around dealing with one emergency after another.)

Mew: "Look at all the Jennies,"

(Mew says.)

Misty: "And all the Joys, too,"

(Misty says.)

(Soon, they notice Brock is spacing out.)

(and is following every Joy and Jenny he sees.)

Brock: "It doesn't get any better than this. Nurse Joys and Officer Jennies everywhere."

(He follows a Joy.)

Brock: "You're the Joy from Saffron City."

(And another Joy.)

Brock: "And you're the Joy from Celadon City. Remember me?"

Misty: "Brock's going crazy!"

(Misty says.)

Mew: "Even more than usual,"

(Mew.)

Tomo: "He's so weird,"

(Tomo says.)

(The Pokemon nod their heads in reply.)

(After partially dragging Brock away.)

(Mew and her friends begin looking around to find a place to eat.)

(Mew and the others look around to see a lot of different places.)

Mew: "Wow. This place is amazing."

(Mew says.)

(Then notices a parade.)

Mew: "Look! It's a parade!"

(They see different floats of Pokemon going down the street.)

Mew: "Wow! They have lots of cool events going on at the Pokémon League!"

(Mew says.)

Brock: "Yeah. And everything for us trainers to enjoy,"

(Brock says.)

(Tomo asks.)

Tomo: "So Mew, which field are you going to battle in tomorrow?"

Mew: "They told me that my next match is gonna be in the Ice Field. The other trainer might go with ice types or Pokemon that can withstand ice and are good for the field."

Brock: "Good to keep that in mind,"

(Brock says.)

Mew: "I think I'll have Glaceon, Sandshrew, Arcanine, Wartortle, and Mawile with me to be on the safe side,"

(Mew says.)

(Then turns to Eevee.)

Mew: "And tomorrow it will be your turn Eevee."

Eevee: "Eevee!" (Alright!)

(Eevee happily says.)

(Soon, the group arrives at a different Pokemon center and sees a very massive line.)

Mew: "What's going on?!"

(Mew asks.)

Pikachu: "Pika Pika," (I don't know, pal.)

(Pikachu says.)

Eevee: "Eevee," (Me either).

Brock: "Wonder why it's so crowded,"

(Brock replies.)

Misty: "Makes me glad you did it sooner, Mew,"

(Misty says.)

Mew: It wouldn't have been if we had gotten here sooner.

(Just then, Nurse Joy says through the megaphone.)

Nurse Joy: "May I have your attention, please? Due to the Pokémon League competition, this center is now completely full! If your Pokémon need emergency care, please take them to the nearest Pokémon Center!"

Brock: "That's the Pewter City Nurse Joy!"

(Brock says, blushing.)

Misty: "The Joys all look exactly the same to me. How can you tell one from the other, anyway?"

(Misty comments.)

(Brock turns to Misty.)

Brock: "What your eyes don't see, is very clear to me."

Misty: "Brock is a poet. I didn't know it,"

(Misty says.)

Mew: "Oh brother,"

(Mew comments.)

(Sometime later, Mew and her friends are able to find a restaurant for them to eat.)

(They are soon seated at the table and are having dinner.)

(Even the Pokemon are having dinner as well.)

Tomo: "The food tastes great,"

(Tomo says.)

Mew: "It sure is. I can't wait for tomorrow,"

(Mew says.)

Brock: "Yeah. You've already won two matches. Two more and you get to compete at the Indigo Stadium,"

(Brock says.)

Mew: "Yeah. But I need to remember that the next trainer might be tough, which means we have to be tougher,"

(Mew says.)

Misty: "Glad you're keeping it in mind. You don't want to get too crazy with your victories,"

(Misty says.)

(As Mew and her friends talk.)

(Pikachu and Eevee notice Togepi and Pichu pulling on the table cloth.)

(with a basket that is full of utensils, including forks and knives.)

(Pikachu cries out.)

Pikachu: "Pika Pika! (Keep away from there!)

(But both baby Pokemon pull the cloth that the basket begins to fall towards them.)

Eevee: "Eevee!" (Incoming!)

(Eevee cries out as Pikachu runs to save Togepi.)

(Togepi and Pichu happily move out of the way.)

(as Pikachu lands on the ground, the knife falls straight to the ground.)

(and Pikachu catches the fork with his teeth.)

(Noticing Pikachu, Mew asks.)

Mew: "What are you doing there, Pikachu? Practicing to be in the circus?"

Misty: "Togepi, Pichu, don't you try anything dangerous like that. Okay?"

(Misty advises.)

(Both babies laugh and cheer happily.)

???: "Thought I might find you here,"

(A familiar voice says.)

(They group looks to see the familiar trainer with his Sandshrew.)

Mew: "Hi A.J."

(Mew says.)

Misty: "Glad to see you here,"

(Misty says.)

A.J: "Glad to be here. Your match was incredible,"

(A.J. says.)

Mew: "Thanks. I heard you won your match too,"

(Mew says.)

A.J: "Yeah. Sandshrew was amazing, especially when he swims in the water,"

(A.J. says.)

(Just then, Joe, Otoshi, and Marowak come by.)

Joe: "Hey guys,"

(Joe says.)

Misty: "Hi Joe,"

(Misty says.)

Tomo: "Hey Otoshi, Marowak,"

(Tomo happily says.)

(After seeing each other and having food.)

(Mew walks around with the boys as they look around.)

Mew: "So Joe, how are things going. Last we saw you, you were at Pokemon Tech,"

(Mew says.)

Joe: "Things are going great. It was difficult for me at the beginning, but I was able to earn my eight badges just in time to compete,"

(Joe says.)

Mew: "How's Giselle doing?"

(Mew asks.)

Joe: "Giselle is doing fine, and still studying at the school. And she told me she's getting a lot better at battling. She's on the level that you can get seven badges, and plans on competing next year,"

(Joe says.)

Brock: "That's good to hear,"

(Brock says.)

(Then Mew turns to A.J.)

Mew: "So how are things going with you A.J. Sandshrew looks tougher than the last time I saw him."

A.J: "Sandshrew and I have been working very hard and battle hard too. We manage to get all our eight badges and catch all kinds of Pokemon,"

(A.J. says.)

Brock: "That's great. And Sandshrew is in good shape,"

(Brock says.)

A.J: "Thanks. It's all thanks to my training and my special Pokemon food,"

(A.J. says.)

(Suddenly, the group stops to see a hand motioning them.)

(Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Hey, look!"

(Misty turns to where Mew is looking,)

Misty: "Look at what?"

(The group headed towards the hand.)

(Soon, they meet up with a nurse with short purple hair and glasses.)

nurse: "I know where there's another Pokémon Center that isn't crowded at all,"

(The nurse says.)

Mew: "Is it any good?"

(Mew asks.)

The nurse: "Is it any good? It's great! It's even got its very own Nurse Joy,"

(The nurse says.)

Brock: "Nurse, Joy,"

(Brock happily says, blushing.)

(Misty and Mew roll their eyes in reply.)

Misty: "Now he's driving me crazy,"

(Misty mutters.)

(The nurse then leads them to what seems to be a Pokemon Center.)

nurse: "Here we, are,"

(nurse says.)

Misty: "This doesn't look like the other Pokémon Centers,"

(Misty says.)

(Mew whispers.)

Mew: "You're right. Something is fishy about this, especially that nurse.

Pikachu: "Pika Pika," (I totally agree)

(Pikachu says.)

(The nurse giggles and says.)

The nurse: "This is only a temporary center that we only use during Pokémon League competition. Now, won't you come inside?"

Joe: "Yes, thank you,"

(Joe says.)

(The group enters the building and there doesn't seem to be any crowd.)

Tomo: "Well, at least it isn't crowded,"

(Tomo says.)

Misty: "This place doesn't seem right,"

(Misty says.)

Mew: "I agree,"

(Mew says.)

Brock: "Well, it must be a Pokémon Center cause it's got a very beautiful Nurse Joy,"

(Brock says.)

Mew: "You do have a point, but still…"

(Mew says.)

(Then the nurse says.)

the nurse: "Well, why don't you check your Pikachu? And how about your Pokémon, too, young man?"

Mew: "Um, thank you. But uh, we've already been to the Pokemon Center to get treatment,"

(Mew says.)

(Then asks.)

Mew: "Is there uh, a place where I can switch my Pokemon for tomorrow's battle?"

(Suddenly, Brock notices.)

Brock: "That's really weird."

Tomo: "What's really weird, Brock?"

(Tomo asks.)

Brock: "Usually, when I see a Nurse Joy, I get dizzy and I act crazy and I start talking in a really goofy way,"

(Brock says.)

Misty: "So what? That sounds like you all the time,"

(Misty says.)

(Brock thinks and says.)

Brock: "Maybe I'm just experiencing a temporary Nurse Joy overload."

Mew: "Brock, I think it's probably just because you weren't prepared for them,"

(Mew says.)

(Then Misty says.)

Misty: "That must be the trouble. You weren't prepared to see them. That's the trouble."

(Suddenly, they turn to notice that Nurse Joy and Nurse are acting strange like they're nervous about something.)

A.J: "We say something wrong?"

(A.J. asks.)

(Just then, they hear a familiar motto from Jessie and James.)

Jessie: Prepare for trouble.

James: Make it double.

(They both remove the clothes and stand on the front desk to reveal Team Rocket.)

Jessie: To protect the world from devastation.

James: To unite all peoples within our nation.

Jessie: To denounce the evils of truth and love.

James: To extend our reach to the stars above.

(Jessie removes Nurse Joy mask.)

Jessie: Jessie!

(James removes nurse hat and facemask)

James: James.

Jessie: Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light.

James: Surrender now, or prepare to fight.

Meowth: Meowth! That's right!

(The paper soon falls over to reveal the 'P' sign is really an 'R')

Brock: "See, guys? My internal Nurse Joy detection system is always one-hundred percent accurate,"

(Brock says.)

Mew: "I knew there was something fishy about this,"

(Mew says.)

Misty: "I couldn't agree more,"

(Misty says.)

(A.J angrily says.)

A.J: "Hey, you are the creeps who stole my Sandshrew."

Otoshi: "And stole my badges,"

(Otoshi says.)

Joe: "And tried to steal Pokemon from Pokemon Tech,"

(Joe adds.)

Jessie: "That's right. It's funny to see familiar faces here,"

(Jessie says.)

James: "But for now, it will be time for us to fly,"

(James says.)

(Then Meowth says.)

Meowth: "Time to say buh-bye!"

(and presses a button on a remote.)

(Soon, the place begins to shake and the wall falls to the ground.)

(The Pokeball pops open and a Meowth balloon appears.)

(Soon, the balloon begins to float in the air.)

(Jessie laughs and says.)

Jessie: "We'd love to stay and see the rest of the big competition, but we've simply got to fly."

James: "But we really enjoyed our vacation,"

(James says.)

Meowth: "And now since Plan A didn't work, we'll go straight to Plan B."

(Meowth says, and presses the button again.)

(This time, a strange vacuum appears below the balloon.)

Meowth: "We're going to bring Pikachu and all your Pokemon as souvenirs,"

(Meowth says.)

(But Brock calls you.)

Brock: "Go, Onix!"

(And Onix appears from the Pokeball.)

(and grabs the balloon before they can fly away.)

(Then Brock says.)

Brock: "Onix, time to say bye-bye!"

James: "We're defeated again, Jessie,"

(James says, defeated.)

Jessie: "We're defeated and deflated, James,"

(Jessie says.)

(Soon, Onix tosses the balloon off into the distance, Team Rocket screams.)

Team Rocket: "Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"

Joe: "There they go,"

(Joe says.)

(Mew turns to Brock.)

Mew: "That was great."

Brock: "We better find a REAL Pokémon Center. Come on, let's go."

(Brock says.)

(Just then, Nurse Joy's voice appears on the PA.)

Nurse Joy: "May I have your attention, please? Area Pokémon Centers are now accepting new Pokémon. I repeat, area Pokémon Centers are now accepting new Pokémon."

Mew: "Well then, let's head to the Pokemon Center so I can switch my team,"

(Mew says.)

(With that, the group makes a run for the Pokemon Center.)

(so Mew can switch her Pokemon and get ready for tomorrow's match.)

(The next day, Mew is at her third match against a trainer named Pete from Pewter City in the Ice Field.)

(The announcer says.)

announcer: "And now we're waiting for this third round match between Pallet Town's Mew and Pewter City's Pete Pebbleman to continue! The red trainer has just two Pokemon and Mew continues to hold all three of her Pokemon. And now that we're on the ice field, this match is really heating up!"

(Mew is using Mawile while Pete is using Cloyster.)

(Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Mawile, use Dynamic Punch!"

(Pete calls out.)

Pete: "Cloyster, use Withdraw, now!"

(Cloyster seals itself in its shell.)

(as Mawile bangs on it with its Dynamic Punch attack.)

(The announcer says.)

announcer: "And it looks like Mawile's Dynamic Punch attack is completely ineffective against Cloyster's rock hard shell!

Mew: "Be careful Mawile, that Cloyster's shell is strong,"

(Mew calls out.)

(Tomo turns to Misty and Brock.)

Tomo: "If Mawile gets too tired, Mew might have to switch Pokemon.

Misty: "Maybe, but Cloyster should be losing hit points, too,"

(Misty says.)

(Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Mawile, continue to use Dynamic Punch as hard as you can!"

(Mawile continues to perform Dynamic Punch.)

(until cracks begin to form on Cloyster's shell and it's getting bigger.)

(Soon, Cloyster's cracks become too much.)

(Pete sees it.)

Pete: "Oh no!"

(The shell opens to reveal Cloyster is knocked out.)

(The referee calls out.)

The referee: "Cloyster is out of the match! Victory to Mawile!"

(Pete calls back his Pokemon.)

Pete: "Cloyster, return."

announcer: "Mew's Mawile's Dynamic Punch cracks the clammed up Cloyster! Now, with just one Pokémon left, will Pebbleman choose an ice type or a water type?"

(The announcer says.)

(Pete calls out.)

Pete: "Go, Arcanine!"

(With that, Arcanine appears on the ice rock.)

(The announcer says.)

announcer: "And a big surprise! Pebbleman's chosen Arcanine, a fire Pokemon!"

Mew: "Hmm, interesting twist,"

(Mew says.)

(She then notices Mawile is getting tired.)

(Mew calls it back.)

Mew: "You did a great job Mawile, return."

(With that, Mawle is returned to its Pokeball.)

(Mew turns to Eevee.)

Mew: "Ready Eevee."

Eevee: "Eevee!" (You got it!)

(Eevee says.)

(And jumps into the battlefield.)

(The announcer says.)

announcer: "And it appears Mew switches her Pokemon for Eevee. Despite it being small, it looks like this Eevee is well trained."

(Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Eevee, use Swift!"

(Eevee then begins the attack.)

(but Arcanine leaps over them and between the icy rocks.)

(Pete calls out.)

Pete: "Arcanine, good job! Now show them your Dragon Rage attack!"

Mew: "Dragon Rage!"

(Mew exclaims in shock.)

(Then calls out.)

Mew: "Eevee, watch out!"

(Arcanine begins the attack as Eevee quickly runs away.)

(as the attack comes closer.)

(Eevee quickly moves out of the way in the nick of time, and hides behind some of the ice rocks.)

Mew: "Eevee, are you okay!"

(Mew calls out.)

(Just then, Eevee hopes on one of the ice rocks, much to Mew and the others' relief.)

(But Still.)

Mew: "The Dragon Rage attack! I never expected that!"

Tomo: "And it looks really strong,"

(Tomo says.)

Misty: "I hope Mew can think of something, or she might have to switch Pokemon,"

(Misty says.)

(Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Alright, now! Let's confuse Arcanine with your Quick Attack, Eevee!"

(Eevee then performs a Quick attack and dashes down the field.)

(and runs around Arcanine.)

(Arcanine is having trouble telling where Eevee says.)

announcer: "A very impressive slideshow as Eevee on ice performs some very cool moves!"

(The announcer says.)

(Pete calls out.)

Pete: "Arcanine, Fire Blast!"

(Arcanine launches the Fire Blast on Eevee, but it's too fast for it.)

Mew: "We're too fast for a Fire Blast,"

(Mew says.)

(But Pete says.)

Pete: "Maybe so, but it's too bad that your only chance of winning just melted away!"

(Arcanine continues to launch the Fire Blast around the field as Eevee continues to run.)

(Soon, the ice begins to melt.)

Misty: "I don't get it! What is Arcanine doing?"

(Misty wonders.)

Brock: "It's trying to stop Eevee by using Fire Blast to melt the whole Ice Field."

(Brock says.)

(The announcer says.)

announcer: "This is unbelievable! The whole field has melted down to two little icebergs!"

(Soon, Mew realizes.)

Mew: "Oh no!"

(With that, Eevee finds herself floating on an iceberg.)

Eevee: "Eevee!" (Mew!)

(Eevee calls out.)

(The announcer says.)

announcer: "With nowhere to go, Eevee is trapped! It can't use its Quick Attack!

(Then Pete calls out.)

Pete: "Arcanine, just one more Fire Blast!"

(Luckily, Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Quick Eevee, dive into the water!"

(Eevee quickly dives into the water.)

(Luckily, Eevee can swim very well.)

(Mew smirks.)

Mew: "Luckily Eevee and I have one more trick up our sleeve.

(Then calls out.)

Mew: "Eevee, use Thunderbolt!"

(Eevee then releases a Thunderbolt that gives Arcanine the shock of its life.)

(sending it crashing into the water after the iceberg is destroyed and sent flying.)

(Pete is in shock.)

Pete: "Arcanine!"

(Soon, Arcanine is unconscious in the water.)

(The referee calls out.)

The referee: "Arcanine has been eliminated! The victory goes to trainer Mew!"

(Soon, the crowd erupts in cheers to see Mew has won her third round.)

Mew: "We did it! We just won our third round match!"

(Mew happily cheers.)

(Even Misty, Brock, and Tomo, even the Pokemon cheers.)

(Eevee quickly jumps out of the water and jumps into Mew's arm.)

(Pikachu climbs on Mew's shoulder to congratulate Eevee.)

(Mew has won three rounds and only needs one more round to compete in the Indigo Stadium.)
