Episode 42: Barrier

The next day, after Leon is fully recovered, they enter the gym.

Rai: So the puzzle for this gym is that we step on different teleporters to teleport around the gym. So I guess we start with this first one.

Rai tries to step on the teleporter but instead the group is grabbed by a group of Abra and teleported straight to Sabrina's battle arena.

Sabrina: Welcome to Saffron City gym. I didn't feel like waiting so I just brought you all up here myself.

Leon: Why us specifically? Seeing as you have a whole gym with state-of-the-art technology so it's safe to assume you don't do this for everyone.

Sabrina: Your promising track record of course, I'll just leave it at that. You know how I do battles so let's begin. Mr. Mime, go.

Wart steps up to the plate first. He immediately goes for Surf but the damage is mitigated by a Light Screen on Sabrina's side. It goes for a Psybeam while Wart blocks it with Protect. The Mr. Mime forces him to continue to use Protect my using Encore. The next Protect fails and Wart is hit with a strong Psybeam.

Una: Wart switch with me.

Wart: Are you sure? You're weak to psychic attacks.

Una: Just trust me you'll go back out right after I'm done.

They switch out and Una slows Mr. Mime down with String Shot. She uses another one of the techniques she learned during her time in Viridian Forest.

Una: String Shot: Laced Wire!

She surrounds the field with strings covered in a toxic substance to inflict Sabrina's Pokémon with Poison. Sabrina, seemingly startled by this attack she has never seen, quickly recovers herself and has her Mr. Mime attack with Psybeam. Una dodges it and hits the Pokémon with a Poison Sting. For some reason, the weak move Una used to push it away so she could switch back out with Wart did major damage.

Sabrina: What? Even with a critical hit, a Poison Sting shouldn't have done that much damage. You all really are something.

Una: Wart quick, take this, switch in and take it out!

Una gives him something as they swap and Wart uses Surf to knock out Sabrina's Mr. Mime.

Sabrina: Unexpected but still. That's only my first Pokémon so don't get too confident.

Una: Guys, I think she may have listened in on our plan last night. She knew exactly what Wart was going to do and was shocked by my technique which we didn't talk about.

Sabrina: Sorry, I heard strong trainers were here to challenge me so I may have listen into your strategy. It was so interesting I had to battle you as soon as possible.

Leon: If so, we'll just have to come up with something on the spot then.
