Eve, Go Wild

Everyone gave a massive round of applause after Prof. Oak was done speaking the opening words.

"Now then," he said, a giant screen appeared out of nowhere, floating in the air, "we have a total of 33 participants; this screen will randomly assign you a number, and then according to that number, it will match you against your opponent. I will let Zack take over from here."

As he finished his words, Prof. Oak walked away and went to sit beside Caroline, his close friend, while Zack explained the other rules.

"The fights will be one on one; your pokemon will be healed after every battle but remember that it might not fully recover before your next fight begins, so winning is necessary but how you win is also important. Pay attention to your screens as this will show the numbers you will be assigned to."

As soon as he spoke, the machine started giving out numbers followed by the participant's name.

It took around two to three minutes before every singles contestant was allotted a number.

Alan looked at Steven before giving him a weird look, "your name is in the first place...from behind."

"How is it my fault that I am voted to be the weakest?" replied Steve with annoyance; he did not for a fact like his name being in the last.

"Good for you; you will not have to fight for one round," replied Alan as the last number would win by default.

"Now is the time for the first battle," shouted Zach as all the contestants participating in it waited in anticipation, "the first ones to fight are....," he looked at the screen floating above, randomizing the match-ups, and then it finally stopped.

"Number 17 vs Number 9."

"Congratulations, my friend; I might be the first place from behind, but guess who might be the first one to get eliminated?"

"Don't jinx it, anyway, I am going; make sure to cheer for me," said Alan before he stood up, ready to go down for a battle.

"Good luck, son," said Alex with encouragement.

"She may be a girl but make sure to not go easy on her," said Ellie while giving a thumbs up with both hands.

"Good luck, kid, make sure you win it," said Devon with a bright smile while Lisa just gave an encouraging nod.

"Thank you so much," he said before he turned to Eve, "ready?"

[Make sure you don't freeze]

"Will you stop reminding me about it," he said while shaking his head, but a smile appeared on his face. Alan returned Eve to the Pokeball and placed it back in his small necklace before walking towards the battlefield.

As they saw him walk away, Lisa could not help but ask, "why did he ask Eevee to return?"

"Of course, so that he can show off," said Steven as if he knew exactly what Alan was thinking.

On the other side of the stadium, a group of people with similar faces and hair sat together, watching Alan walk to the battlefield.

"Is he the one who beat you?"

"Yes, mother."

"If you battled again, what do you think the result would be?"

Daniel did not reply, but his silence was enough of an answer.

"Do you think your little boyfriend would win?" asked Carolina while she looked at Alan, walking calmly and steadily.

"He is not my boyfriend!!"

"I have lived long enough to know how this is going to end up," she said while looking at her granddaughter with a smirk, "but do you think he can win?"

"Yes," replied Cynthia; she did not doubt Alan for a second, 'why should I doubt my friend?'

"Oak, do you know that boy? After all, you are the one who invited him; I still can't wrap my head around why you would do that."

"His father has worked as a researcher in my lab starting last month; I heard he had a son, so I invited him," said Oak with his same old smile.

"How many researchers son's have you invited so far?" asked Carolina, to which Oak did not reply, and neither spoke on the topic after that.

Under the gazes of more than a hundred people, Alan and the girl, who was Alan's opponent, made their way to the battlefield and stood opposite each other.

"You will not get past me," said the girl as she looked at Alan, who had his hands in his pockets. It did not seem like he was worried about the match.

Alan did not reply but stayed silent, waiting for the referee to begin the battle.

"Contestants, introduce yourselves."

"Jennie Bell, Kanto Region."

"Alan Salvador, Elian Region."

"This will be a one-on-one battle between Jennie of Kanto region and Alan of Elian region. The battle will be over when either of the pokemon cannot fight. Send out your pokemons."

At the referee's declaration, both Alan and Jennie sent out their pokemons.

"Bellsprout, I chose you," said Jennie before throwing a Pokeball attached to her waist.

Alan looked at the grass/poison-type pokemon that appeared on the field before placing his hand on his chest and taking out his necklace where a Pokeball was hanging.

'Let's finish this one quick, partner,' he thought before removing the Pokeball and throwing it towards the battlefield.

"Eve, go wild."

A black light flashed, and an Eevee appeared in front of everyone's eyes.

"Bell-sprout."

[Wash your mouth, it stinks.]

"Belll"

"Bellsprout, use Sunny day," said Jennie, and her Bellsprout did as told.

Alan frowned, but he did not think much of it and gave his command, "Use Agility. Keep using it till they are done with their Sunny Day."

'He is giving up a chance to attack?' thought Jennie as Sunny Day was a move that would take some time to use. However, Eve could not reach the Bellsprout within that charge, it might be able to land a hit or two once it was close, but she had already prepared a trap for that situation which she was expecting Alan to fall into.

However, to her surprise, Alan gave up attacking her and focused on using Agility.

It did not take long before Sunny Day was used, and the sun's rays became harsh, almost blinding.

"Bellsprout, let's not waste any more time; use Vine Whip," she called out.

Thin vines came out of Bellsprout before they made their way towards Eve at a breakneck speed.

"Dodge it, and use Work Up," as he said that, Eve dashed off towards her right, dodging the attack quickly. However, Jennie did not let Eve rest just with that.

"Use Vine Whip again, keep following that Eevee," she gave a command, and just as told, the vines moved towards Eve, but she was already done using Work Up.

"Eve, you know the drill, we are making this quick," said Alan and that was the last thing he had to say. Eve knew exactly what Alan wanted.

She quickly dodged the attack again before using Work Up. This went on three times more before Jennie could not take it anymore.

"Bellsprout use Bullet Seed."

The pokemon opened its mouth, and five seeds went straight for Eve. She dodged the first four but was hit by the last one leaving her dazed with a static effect for a second.

"Good, now use Vine Whip once again," she commanded, 'with this, I will finish him off.'

"Eve dodge it again," he said, and as soon as the static effect wore off, Eve disappeared from where she stood.

"How is it possible?" asked Jennie when she saw how fast Eve was going.

"This is the result of the move Agility; if Eve had not used it so many times in the beginning, she would not be able to dodge that Vine Whip; thanks for letting me use it; now time to show you the effects of Work Up," said Alan before swiping his hand to the right, "Eve use Tackle, follow it up with an Iron Tail."

"Bellsprout dodge," said Jennie, but it was too slow compared to Eve, who was boosted by the move, Agility.

Eve ran towards her target at her best speed, and before the opponent could even react, she was on it. She slammed straight into its body, a Tackle backed by extreme speed and strength.

The Bellsprout slid across the field; it did not even have a second before it saw a white flash as a tail glowing in the light struck straight into its face.

The pokemon flew towards its trainer before it dropped at her feet, injured and unconscious.

"H-how?" asked Jennie bewildered with what had just happened.

"The Bellsprout is unable to battle; the winner is Eevee. The victory of this round goes to Alan Salvador of Elian Region," declared the judge and Alan walked towards Jennie and extended his hand.

"It was a good battle," he said with the same neutral expression he had since he entered the pokemon field.

"Ah, y-yes, thank you for a great battle," replied Jennie, still very much shook by her loss.

Once done, Alan looked at his parents, who looked proudly at him and Steven, who was cheering as loud as possible. Finally, he looked towards Cynthia, who gave him a nod with a smile, which he returned in the same way before walking towards his seat.

"How can the difference be so big?" asked Gary, who was surprised by how fast Alan had defeated his opponent.

"While you all were enjoying, he spent almost all his time in either training room or the forest fighting pokemon," explained Oak as he too was surprised when he saw the hard work Alan and Eve had put in, "they worked in silence, so their actions can be loud."

"But he will still lose to me," replied Gary, not wanting to admit he was weaker than Alan.

"Then I will root for you," replied Oak.

"Your boyfriend has trained his pokemon well," said Carolina as she nodded her head.

"How many times do I have to tell you? He is not my boyfriend," retorted Cynthia, anger visible on her face.

However, Carolina just ignored her and kept speaking, "Eve is a pokemon which is inherently weak in physical strength. Although he made up for it with Work Up and Agility, it should not have been enough. This clearly shows they had worked hard to increase their strength. He has put a lot of effort in increasing the physical strength of his Eevee, this way the Tackle and Iron Tail became stronger than what you would expect them to be."

She gave an appreciating nod as she summarized the whole battle in few words before whispering to herself, "maybe Elian region would once again have someone who will take it to its glory days?"

As Alan reached his seat, the screen once again started glowing before the number were randomized and then matched.

Slowly and steadily all the numbers were called one by one in pairs before they would proceed with their matches.

Cynthia had her match with someone from Unova who was pretty badly beaten by her Gibble, just like Alan and Jennie's match, it was a one sided beatdown but more intense.

This was Alan's first time seeing Cynthia battle and he had to say, she could be pretty hard on her opponents.

Sabrina on the other hand was as cold as always showing no emotions, she finished her match and walked away followed by an Abra who was floating beside her, but she did look at Alan once.

"Why do you think she looks at you every time?" asked Steven as he too noticed this behaviour, "I have heard she is the strongest psychic born in our generation, maybe she read some of your dirty thoughts?"

"Or maybe she just has a crush on me? I am good looking after all," said Alan to which Steven just rolled his eyes.

Soon after couple of battles, it was the match between Gary and Ash.

After all of the boring matches this was the best match that took place.

Pichu was level 9 while Squirtle's level was a lot higher. It was clear that Ash had not put in much effort into training his pokemon. Even while being at type disadvantage, Gary had beaten him pretty bad.

"A Royal pokemon," said Alan, seeing one of the three Kanto royal's so early.

"It is very rare to get your hands on any of the three royal pokemon of any region. Being the grandson of Prof. Oak and son of a former Champion sure have its perks," said Steven as he too tried to get a Royal pokemon as his second team member but he couldn't get one, yet.

The matches went as most would have predicted, the number allotment had pretty much summarized who would win and who would not with very few outliers, Daniel being one of them.

He was up against a girl ranked 13th but he won that match, though his Ralts took some damage, it was not too bad and could easily recover before the second rounds began.

"I believe the last loss was too much for him?" asked Steven as he saw the prowess of Daniels pokemon.

Alan nodded his head, 'is he trying to say he will catch up to me?' he thought inside his head when he saw Daniel look at him after his fight.

Unknowingly or knowingly, Alan had made a rival who would clash with him in future. But would he be able to win again? Or would it be his loss?

No one knew, but one thing was certain. This camp was going to be an eye opener and a life changing training camp for many of these kids.
