"Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you all to our monthly ranking tournament where Pokemons compete for the reward of getting their favorite food for two weeks, " Aoki announced in a dramatic way, making his Pokemon roll their eyes with embarrassment.
"Does he do it every time? " Darkrai asked.
"You'll get used to it, " Charmeleon said.
Aoki's dramatic way of announcing amused Darkrai a lot.
After suffering from loneliness for so long, he liked spending time with everyone.
Everyone treated him like a long-known friend even after knowing his past and all the killing it did.
'Following him was the right idea'
Among all the Pokemon the most excited was Shelgon as he could not wait to find out where he stood after her evolution.
Aoki wrote every Pokemon's name on a piece of paper and made Darkrai choose any two of them randomly.
One by one every match was selected leaving Clefairy that got a free pass to the next round.
The matches were:
Charmeleon vs Nidorino
Gyarados vs Weepinbell
Pidgeotto vs Shelgon
"Well then let's start the match! " Aoki announced
A large circle was created and the contestants were forbidden to get past that line.
Aoki set a camera a bit far from the battle to record the battle for later use. He took out some popcorn and sat down taking out a seat to witness the battle.
Charmeleon and Nidorino came into the field and stared into each other's eyes.
"Ready to lose your position? " Nidorino provokes by stomping on the ground.
A wide grin appeared on the face of Charmeleon " Bring it on kid !! "
"START ! "
Instantly Charmeleon and Nidorino dashed toward each other with fire and poison coating respectively.
Clang!
Spark!
Charmeleon's metal claw and Nidorino's horn clashed creating sparks. Charmeleon was pushed back by the physical strength of Nidorino which surpassed his by a lot.
Nidorino kicked the ground hard creating craters and making Charmeleon lose his balance.
Taking this chance he immediately used a combination of water pulse and thunderbolt at Charmeleon at point range.
Charmander's speed of initiating a move was not to be underestimated too.
He opened his mouth that instant and fired a purple wave of Dragon Breath and the incoming attack created an explosion.
The smoke from the explosion cleared after a few seconds but Nidorino was nowhere to be seen.
"Underground huh " Charmander muttered as looked down.
Unfortunately, his mastery was ground-type energy was close to null so he had no way to tell when Nidorino would come out.
After a few seconds of silence, dense ground-type energy burst out from the ground enveloping Charmeleon.
It was Nidorino's earth power.
In the few seconds Nidorino was inside the ground, he had used one round of focus energy.
Charmeleon used Protect to minimize the damage but he was sent into the air from the recoil.
Nidoino jumped out of the hole and started using a very poisonous sludge bomb at the mid-air Charmeleon.
Charmeleon knew he could not let that poison touch him so he countered the Sludge bomb with his devastating flamethrower.
Boom!
The two attacks met and the flamethrower completely evaporated the poison and reached Nidorino.
Shhh!
The sound of vapourization reached everyone's ears as Nidorino came out unharmed from Charmeleon's flamethrower.
Just as the fire was about to reach him, he used a combination of Blizzard and Waterpulse to counter the flames creating a layer of vapor and lowering the visibility.
In that layer of vapor, a red wheel came to view for a few seconds as Charmeleon rotated his body mid-air to form a rotating blade.
Boom!
Charmeleon and Nidorino's thunderbolt collided but Nidorino lost the confrontation and took damage from the attack.
Nidorino jumped back gritting his teeth with pain and used Iron tail at the incoming Charmeleon who used a Mega kick to block the attack.
At the same time, Nidorino used a Rock tomb that Charmeleon could not react against and took damage.
Recovering from the damage, Charmeleon used Dragon Claw while Nidorino used Thrash and began indulging in close combat.
Charmeleon used Fire blast which Nidorino blocked with Protect and used Disable making Charmeleon unable to use that move for a while.
Charmeleon used Dragon rage while Nidorino used a powerful thunderbolt which was defeated by the Dragon rage damaging him.
The spikes on Nidorino's back exploded and spread all over the place. This was the move of toxic spikes which had now made every Pokemon stepping in that area get poisoned.
Charmeleon destroyed the spikes that came at him with Flamethrower and coated his legs in dragon-type energy.
He knew that it would not take long for him to get poisoned as the poison of Nidorino was very corrosive.
Moreover, Nidorino was continuously releasing poison from his body into the air making it harder for Charmeleon.
Charmeleon had to agree that in terms of close combat skills, Nidorino was slightly better than him but where Charmeleon truly shined was in long-range attacks.
As expected soon after another short clash, Charmeleon got poisoned but Charmeleon ignored the damage as he knew he could finish the battle before the poison took him down.
They kept clashing with each other and throwing some big moves like Flare Blitz, Earth Power, and Blizzard at regular intervals.
Both of them were taking the chance to sharpen each other's shortcomings in this fight.
In between the fight, Aoki kept making comments similar to the ones in official tournaments to make it as real as possible.
After fighting for a while, they increased their speed and decided to end their battle in the next few moves.
Charmeleon rotated his body as the fire on his tail burned brightly.
From where he stood a short tornado of flames emerged which started growing in size and trapping Nidorino in a vortex.
Nidorino used Dig and got underground.
Charmeleon got near the hole and used Flair Blitz.
Nidorino used water pulse against that Flare blitz but the fire attack destroyed the water one and hit him.
Nidorino came out from another hole and immediately used Hyper Beam at Charmeleon.
Charmeleon didn't use Hyper Beam but responded with equally powerful Draconic flames.
BOOM!
A loud explosion rang out as the two attacks collided.
At first, the energies seem to be equal but Charmeleon's draconic flames suppressed Nidorino's Hyper Beam and hit him in the face.
This did large damage to Nidorino and stunned him for a few seconds.
Charmander instantly reached near Nidorino and used Flair Blitz at a close-range dealing even more damage.
Grabbing Nidorino by the horn Charmeleon jumped into the air and slammed him into the ground before initiating seismic toss followed by a mega kick to the stomach.
Boom!
Crack!
As the dust from the slam cleared, Nidorino was unable to move while Charmeleon was still standing.
"What an amazing battle folks !!!
Charmeleon wins the match and moves to the next round !! "
