After answering a few of their questions since I knew that they would not leave me alone without getting something, our group left for the restaurant with Detective Loneson leading the way. He brought us to a steak restaurant I had not been to before, and I had to say that the meat tasted great.
At the end of the dinner, Detective Loneson displayed his generosity and covered the bill by himself. That earned him some browny points with the team, but I was pretty sure that the only browny points he really cared about belonged to Detective Monroe.
Anyway, after he paid the bill, we split up, and I went back to my dorm. Naturally, I moved on to Utopia from there, though I did not stay there for long since I decided to take a closer look at the rights and conditions that came along with my new junior professor title. I knew some of them, but I had not bothered to read the whole thing before this.
All in all, the title gave me a few advantages that were pretty useful to me even outside of some kind of academic work. First of all, I no longer had to worry about the Pokemon limit at all. Well, at least as long as I had the necessary space to accommodate them and the resources required to provide for them. Not that I had such a problem before due to the existence of Utopia, but now it was official.
Further, I was now also able to act as the guarantor/storage point for others, so my parents, friends, and the orphans I was planning to support could keep their Pokemon on a property that belonged to me. This was especially important for the orphans or any other trainer I decided to sponsor in the future since it allowed them to go beyond their actual carry limit, and access their storage limit.
Additionally, I was now allowed to legally hand out Pokemon in an extensive capacity, which was something I would have had to apply for at some point in the future if it had not been part of my professor privileges. Oh, and I was allowed to act as an official sponsor to aspiring trainers in a legal capacity, which was kind of funny considering that I had yet to step out on my own official journey.
Well, I also got access to more resources and restricted areas as well as information, which was pretty good as well. Unfortunately, those resources still did not include Mega Stones. Nonetheless, while all these privileges were not as extensive as the ones full-fledged professors enjoyed, they were still rather generous.
As for the conditions, I saw nothing I would not have done anyway or refrained from doing, depending on whether they wanted me to do something or refrain from doing something. Honestly, the biggest one was probably having to show some research results every few decades, which was a bargain in exchange for all that, especially since the research did not have to be anything major.
They simply wanted to see that we were engaging in helpful/practical research of some kind. My private research so far alone was enough to cover that condition for the next few centuries if necessary. Not that I thought that I would stay a junior professor for that long.
Still, personal gain aside, this junior professor title of mine took care of quite a lot of the things I would have had to deal with in the future if I wanted to provide my orphanage/orphans with Pokemon. It ultimately ended up saving me a lot of work, time, and stress. I had to say that I was quite happy with the things I read and decided to put on a movie for everyone after returning to Utopia. This way I shared the happiness, and everyone got to have some fun.
The next day I returned to the Police HQ, and unfortunately, I had noticed some reporters hanging out around my dorm before I left. The most likely reason I did not notice them yesterday was that I had teleported straight to my room.
There were also some reporters lurking around the HQ, but I made sure that neither group managed to get to me before I entered the headquarters for work. That kind of "surveillance" persisted for the rest of my work week as well, and I let them "catch" me twice to ask some questions. Through this "sacrifice" of mine, their numbers had grown considerably smaller by the end of Palkiday.
That was the only truly good news so far for this week. As for our case, both the Mega Stone and the robber were still out there. Though, I got a feeling inside my bones, that we were getting closer to our target(s). I really hoped that the robber had not sold the Mega Stone already, or gotten rid of it. It would be for the best if he or she decided to lay low for some time before using the Mega Stone for themselves.
The next two days I left Celadon City and hung around Cerulean City because the Williams family, more specifically Aunt Jasmine, had invited me over during the party last week. That was how I ended up spending Dialday as well as Kyoday with Misty and her family.
Misty posted quite a few photos of us in our group chat, so everyone knew what I/we had been doing for the last two days. I honestly had been a bit worried that her actions would result in the other girls insisting on doing the same, but thankfully that did not come to pass.
Anyway, I was back in Celadon City on Grouday, though I was planning to spend the whole day inside Utopia. After breakfast my Pokemon got together and asked me to sing something for them, so I ended up holding a small 60-minute concert for them, which I streamed throughout Utopia so that everyone could enjoy some good music. Things like that helped maintain/increase the goodwill everyone felt towards me.
Once slightly more than an hour had gone by, I decided to stop and told everyone that I was going to start the routine check-up. Upon hearing that, everyone began to spread out to do their things until it was their turn, though they did not move too far from my place. They moved just enough to go through their training without disturbing anyone and vice versa.
I started doing my thing and managed to go through a third of them by the end of the hour. Still, from what I had seen during that hour, I decided that it was high time for another full/all-out grooming session since the last one had been about 5 months ago. I resolved to do it during the extended weekend next week, and everyone cheered when they heard that.
About half an hour before our usual lunchtime only the Sinister Six was left, and I went up to Stan/Gyarados first since it was just common courtesy to start with the leader of the group. When it was Medusa's turn I ended up with a pleasant surprise. It appeared that she had completed her limit breaking phase sometime during the week, but did not feel the completion.
I shared the good news with her but asked her to postpone heading to her place until I was done checking Aby(ss) and Jade as well. Neither of the two ended up adding to the surprise, and once the check-up session was over, I announced Medusa's upcoming breakthrough over UtopiaFM.
Afterward, we all began moving to her place for the actual breakthrough. Once we made it there, we waited another 15 minutes to give stragglers the chance to arrive. When the last one made it, the others began to form the circle while Fortuna/Togetic as well as I hugged Medusa and wished her all the best before joining the rest. I gave Medusa the signal and she initiated her breakthrough.
A few seconds in she began to shine a bit. It was obvious that she was unlocking something, but I was unable to narrow it down because from my experience this kind of light intensity could fit both a talent and a modifier unlocking. Before long the breakthrough was complete, and I made my way over to Medusa.
Due to the (mid) dark gold stage undulations coming from her, I could say with some confidence that she had not unlocked a modifier. Regardless, I congratulated her on reaching the dark gold stage. Still, confident or not, I decided to wait for the Aurora Club recognition until I saw it on her status sheet.
Medusa laughed happily at my congratulatory words. She also mentioned that she felt something had changed related to her water and poison energy, but she was not sure what.
However, before he could look more into that, the rest of the Sinister Six was upon us, and she got distracted. In addition to them, the rest of our family also joined in, and I let them be since I would see what she was referring to anyway once I looked at her status sheet. I went ahead and did just that.
'Name: Medusa
Species: Gyarados
Gender: Female
Type: Water, Poison
Age: 12+ Years
-
Potential: Light Aurora (15.34%)*
{Deep Purple (48.92%) -> (50.69%) -> Light Aurora (15.34%)}
(Genetic) Modifiers: Poison Variant
Abilities: Intimidate, Poison Touch, Moxie*'
I saw the confirmation that she had joined the Aurora Club. It also indicated that she had not unlocked any modifier since I saw no potential deduction that was usually connected with such an event. Her new potential also brought along a new/third ability and looking at her ability section I saw that she too had gotten Moxie.
She was the third one in their group to get Moxie as the third ability, and I was suspecting that she was not the fourth one simply because Stan already had Moxie as his second ability. The way things looked, it was very likely that Aby and Jade would get Moxie as their third ability as well.
Anyway, I shared the news with Medusa and she seems very happy to hear that. She even joked that their group was turning into a tide's nightmare, which was kind of true, especially since their group was capable of healing up during a fight, so forcing them to deplete their energy/stamina reserves was pretty much the only way for a tide to stop them. Unless they had someone capable of schooling them the classic way of course.
Shaking off the impressive image of my Gyarados fighting off a sea of hostile Pokemon, I resumed looking through her status sheet and came right across the reason why Medusa felt a change related to her water and poison energy.
'Talents: Poisonous Water*'
The name itself was enough to give an idea of what the talent did, but I naturally still read through its description to see what its actual effect was, and I had to say that I was rather impressed.
Poisonous Water allowed Medusa to change the water energy she used for any of her water-type moves to poison energy. This might sound simple to some, and in some ways it was, but that did not change that this was a fantastic talent.
Poisonous Water practically turned any of Medusa's water moves into a second move of the poison type with the same mastery as the "original" water move. Yes, the secondary poison move retained the original's mastery.
Medusa now practically had a move called Poison Gun that was already mastered. The same was true for Hydro Pump and Aqua Jet. This was simply incredible, and I had to admit that I was really curious about how a poisonous Rain Dance looks. Honestly, if it worked as I thought it would, the move would be so unfair.
Not to mention the fact that once she managed to push one of her water moves to transcendence, a corresponding poison move would follow suit as well. That alone was enough to show how great this "simple" talent was.
I was just not sure if the mastery of those converted moves also increased her poison energy manipulation, because if it did, then her talent was even more broken than I already considered it to be since it would mean that Medusa only had to focus on increasing her water manipulation since her poison manipulation would simply grow alongside it.
Well, considering that both her water and poison energy manipulation were already at advanced mastery that was not as extreme as it could have been, but it would still save her a lot of hard work.
I went ahead and shared the wonderful news with Medusa, and it caused quite a hubbub among everyone. They all congratulated her with quite a few joking that that they were kind of envious of the great talent she had unlocked. Even Mega Mind as well as Walking Cheat praised Medusa's new talent.
Medusa demonstrated the effect of Poisonous Water by releasing what I would call Poison Gun, and after seeing her new talent in action, I continued to look through her status sheet.
'Bond: Mikail (deep)*
Quirks: Still Kinda Biased
----
Parameters:
Stage: Dark Gold Stage (mid)*
Vitality: C
Strength: E
Endurance: D
Agility: D
Energy Capacity: C
Energy Density: C'
The grade of our bond was no surprise since I had already felt it as soon as it advanced to a deep bond. Similarly, I/we had already known that she was starting at the (mid) dark gold stage due to the undulations she had been releasing.
Still, looking at her parameters, I was confident that it would not take Medusa too long to advance to the (high) dark gold stage. She would definitely need to focus on her strength for some time though since it disrupted the charm of her parameter spreadsheet.
Leaving that thought for later, I went through the rest of her status sheet to see if there were any further changes caused by her breakthrough, but did not spot any. Still, looking at her moves, I decided to shift the focus back to her water moves.

Aside from her recently mastered moves, we had been focusing more on her poison moves to increase their presence in the upper part of her move section, but considering her new talent, we would naturally have to move our focus nearly entirely on her water moves.
Anyway, once I was done looking through Medusa's status sheet, I began to pull out the tables, snacks, and drinks, before I declared the start of her party, much to the joy of everyone.
