Chapter 039

The next morning, Alex went to Professor Oak's office early in the morning. The Professor sent a message the previous evening asking him to meet him at 8 in the morning at his office.

"Professor?" called Alex as he entered.

"Ah Yes, Alex. I have a task for you. I would normally take the other kids to choose their starters, give them their Pokedex, some Pokeballs and give a pep talk. But now that I have you, you will do the first few things. In this folder are the basic details you must know. The Pokedex has already been registered to their respective trainers. You need to hand them out to their owners. Also, give 5 Pokeballs each to them. Also, hand them the Pokeball of the starter they have chosen. I will let Alakazam accompany you for this" said Professor Oak.

Alex nodded and excuses himself. He walked to the lobby and read the folder thoroughly. As far as he could tell, he was supposed to help the 13 others who were here choose their Pokemon, give them their Pokedex, and 5 Pokeballs. Some other frequently asked questions and their answers were also mentioned in the folder.

Alex studied and memorized the folder as he waited. After an hour or so, he felt a flash in front of him. He looked up to see Alakazam looking in front of him. Levitating next to Alakazam was a big box, with 15 Pokeballs, which it set down on a table.

"These were probably the starter Pokemon to choose from he thought, as he looked at a Pokeball.

Suddenly, familiar lines of text appeared before him.

"I can see the stats of Pokemon even inside Pokeballs? That's cool" thought Alex.

He then turned to Alakazam.

He had an intense feeling Alakazam seemed to be looking at him. But when he looked at it, he could see it with its eyes closed, facing away, and sitting on the corner of the room.

"Huh" exhaled Alex, trying to ignore the strange feeling and thinking of what he would say to the kids he will be meeting soon.

He walked to the box of Pokeballs for a closer look. Suddenly, he felt like he couldn't move his right leg. He lost his balance and fell down. He barely managed not to get hurt.

"What just happened?" he thought in confusion. He then looked at Alakazam. For some reason, he had the feeling that Alakazam was responsible for his fall.

"Is this Alakazam a prankster? According to what I read, it's usually Ghost Pokemon that are a tad mischievous. Psychic Pokemon are supposed to be chill, arrogant, and have a holier than thou attitude. Why is this Alakazam teasing me?" he thought in confusion?

He started at Alakazam intently. But the Alakazam was totally chill and ignoring him.

He decided to do the same and started walking back towards the couch. Suddenly, he felt like he was floating, and was hurled face-first into the sofa.

This time he was sure it was Alakazam using a Pyshcic type move.

He turned around and yelled, "Alakazam!"

"Yes human child?" it asked in a deep, sonorous, wise sounding voice.

"Uhh never mind," said Alex. He had heard that powerful Psychic type Pokemon could speak human words, but this was the first time he was actually seeing it. Plus it was hard to question the owner of a sage like voice if it was pranking him, especially when the said owner of the sage like voice could levitate a small hill on top of you.

He figured that this Alakazam was bored, and wanted to pass time or something, and he was the target of some 'welcoming the newcomer by bullying him' tradition.

Alex totally ignored it when the couch cushions started floating up, levitating all around him, and launched themselves at his face. He also ignored the stinging feeling in his head, and the subsequent creepy voices he heard. After this Alakazam was probably not amused anymore, and stopped hassling him.

He heard footsteps and excited voices of children in the distance. He stood up, cleared his throat and was ready to start distributing the starter Pokemon to 13 children who came to collect them.

He looked back at Alakazam. It was still chilling in the corner.

He then stood on the podium and waited for the children to come in.
