An orange tabby with white accents paws at my apartment door. 

I can see his fur is clean but no collar. 

Its eyes are an emerald green. 

Its an explorer. Always curious and willing to dare but only if the price was right. 

Manipulator and thug. 

Spotted my roommate for a mile away. Might as well cover him in sugar. 

Challenges all who it encounters. Even if it fails. 

Wants nothing but the time. 

Water and food are necessary but I really want...

It took a deviled approach. Scream till you let me in. 

Scream long enough even god will let you in. 

But god cannot always provide.

After it finally got let in. It's always a retreat. 

The bathroom and bedroom closed. 

Explore but gain more than first grabbed. 

It came across me again. I told it off once I won't do it again. 

Tossed to the floor.

Go back and try again, the same approach. 

Sucker is still sweet. Maybe a new place that way.

We cross a 3rd time. 

This will just keep escalating.

Sucker will always sway. 

But it's always a retreat. 

Bathroom locked. Won't let in. 

To embarrassing. 

Back off. Come back in. 

New approach. 

Keep the sucker but ignore it.

Keep ignoring.

Explore the harder stuff. 

Counter to high. Not enough energy and not enough reward. 

Keep ignoring. 

Bedtime, perfect. 

The bed door closes. 

Light, faint sounds, a slight chill, dull drone of the AC, the swaying of distant trees...

Ignore, ignore, ignore. 

Finally, close the patio door.
