Chapter 4 - Recovering a Little
The night was going to turn very cool with the cold ways of breezes, the three started breezing in the hospital because they started to the hospital immediately after hearing the news of the accident without taking any proper precautions, normally New York always has a very cool climate and the people living in the city are always well precautionary for the climate. Slowly, the temperature is going down to a minus temperature.
James ordered them to go home as the climate is not suitable for them, as he wanted to stay here for that night. But Mathew's parents did not accept the deal and wanted to stay there in an eagerness to see his son, in the meantime, a nurse came over and asked them to leave for this night if they wanted. Because she informed them, The patient would not get conscious for this night, it may take up to 24 hours for him to get into consciousness".
But because of the love of their son, the two refused to go home. The nurse again asked them to leave from here as per the doctor's orders, as only one person is allowed to stay at night outside the ICU. The two were not able to do anything and told James to be careful, inform them of every situation even though it was night, and left home from there.
James sat on the bench situated at a corner of the hall, opposite the ICU room which is made up of iron and consists of a blue cloth covered in it softly. He waited for a very long time looking at the ICU room peeping through the small passage that appeared on the glass door. He could clearly see Mathew from it every five minutes covered with an oxygen mask to his nose and some of the equipment was arranged to his body, one to count the heartbeat, other to his wrist the saline was going into his body, and the other to count his blood pressure.
The total setup is looking horrible for him because it was the first time he saw him in a peak position and worrying a lot about his brother. Even their own relationship would not care much for them may be so. He was continuously praying to the Lord for his recovery by reading the bible on his mobile phone. So that the Lord would listen to his prayer and let him recover fast.
Slowly, he fell asleep after a long time without knowing him on the chair opposite the ICU room. The next morning, a nurse came to him and called him to wake up from his sleep while giving a little jerk to his body. He stood up suddenly and looked at the nurse by rubbing his eyes to get rid of his sleep from him.
"What does the patient relate to you?", Nurse is trying to find out the details about the relationship between the two.
"He is my brother" James was still rubbing his eyes by taking out the handkerchief from his pocket.
"Okay, he got into consciousness and you can go meet him now. In a few more minutes we are going to shift him to a normal room. So, go and book a room for him in the receptionist quick" Nurse yelled at him and left the place in a rush to take care of another patient.
James was surprised by her words and tried to enter the ICU immediately to see his brother and talk to him. But the other nurse stopped him from going inside as this was not the dress code. If he wants to enter the ICU, then he needs to cover his body with a PPE kit completely to minimize exposure to a biological agent. He then followed the instructions of the nurse and went inside the ICU to meet Mathew.
He was recovering now and able to speak normally, but a little breathing problem was noticed by James while speaking for a longer time. He convinced Mathew, nothing had happened to him and he would recover very soon.
"Are there any major fractures on my body?" Mathew in a confused manner looked at James' eyes to find out the condition of his body.
"No Bro, nothing, only scratches. That's it, but a lot of bleeding occurred" James tried to explain his exact position of him.
A few minutes later, he went out of the ICU. Immediately called his parents and informed them about the consciousness of Mathew and ended the call. He went straight to the reception and booked a nice VIP room for him to recover faster and informed the nurse who asked him to do so earlier.
In the meantime, Bruce and Sophia arrived there and eagerly waited outside the ICU to see their son. But, the nurse refused it and asked them to wait for a while as they were shifting him to the room and meet him there. So, the two checked him through the passage arranged on the door of the ICU, and tears well up.
Finally, Mathew was shifted to a stretcher attached to wheels on the four corners and slowly moved out of the ICU room. Sophia noticed it and became rushed and feeling happy as the wait was over for them. Mathew was then taken to the room which was booked by James and tried very hard to shift him from the stretcher onto the bed as he was not in a position to move right now. James rushed to the nurses and helped them by holding Mathew as he was equally strong to Mathew.
After shifting him onto his bed, the nurses left the room by giving some instructions and precautions to be taken to the patient. Sophia slowly started inquiring about the accident by sitting beside him.
"Clara" Mathew yelled at him.
"What? Clara?" Mother was shocked by listening to his words.
"What was he going to say to his mother?".
"Will his mother accept her again after all the happenings?".
