A Delve into Barebones RPG Status Screens

Done with his retching, Lothar once again approached the corpse of the goblin he just killed. He heard the sound of buzzing in his ears, and when he caught sight of the downed figure, he winced.

"Great, flies…" Lothar groaned as the buzzing little creatures hovered all around him, or more specifically, the blood spots on his shirt and arms.

Grabbing the club that was left lying on the ground after he ran off to retch in some brush, he noticed more flies buzzing around the bloody parts of the wooden club. Looking at the river, Lothar decided to take a quick bath, otherwise, he felt that the blood on his body would attract predators.

'And if this is a fantasy world, then I don't want to be attractin' any kind of predator… ever…' Lothar winced as he thought of being mauled to death by some kind of bear-troll hybrid and being sent once more to the void…

'NO! I won't go back… I need to survive… And find a way to achieve immortality…' Lothar shivered at the thought of going back into the void, his arms trembling as he tried to pinch his arms to tell him that he was here and not in that accursed place. 'I don't care what some people say about immortality, I'm sure they will change their tunes once they experience that… horror…'

Shaking his head from the thoughts, he grabbed his shirt and took it off. He then removed his shoes, dropped his pants, and finally his underwear, leaving him in the buff.

'It's chilly…' His body shivering, and not from the thought of the void this time, he folded his pants and underwear, and brought the club and his shirt so he could wash off the blood. 'Could've used some soap, but I'll live.'

He dipped the club into the water, as well as his shirt, and washed the blood off the objects, briefly placing them on the river bank once finished. Once he was done with that, it was his turn to wash off the blood from his body.

Making sure that there wasn't a speck of blood on his body left, he stood up and approached the river bank, his foot falls leaving messy drips of water on the soil, turning them to wet mud.

Grabbing his shirt, he hung it on a nearby branch that was far away from the goblin corpse, and got into drying himself by shaking off the water like a dog would.

Not the most efficient way, but there was no other choice.

After a few minutes of shaking off the water, he then put on his underwear, pants, and shoes in that order. Waiting for his drying shirt that was exposed to the sun, he grabbed the club and waited nearby, slumping to the ground as his bare back caressed the rough bark of a tree.

'I should probably check my status… I didn't examine it earlier before, so I should do it now while waiting for my shirt to dry.' Mulling over his thoughts, he scratched his head as he wondered. 'Then again, how am I supposed to open my status screen? Think 'Status'?'

Name: Lothar Edwin

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Class: Outsider

STR: 5

AGI: 5

INT: 5

LUC: Error!

'Well, that answers my question… Okay… My Luck stat is glitched, but if what happened earlier was anything to go by, then it's probably working in my favor…' Lothar mused as he contemplated what his stats did for him. Since there wasn't anything to guide him by, he had to learn all of this by himself, which was something he could probably take in stride, seeing that he was an avid RPG gamer back in the day. 'Only three stats though, and no HP, MP, and level…'

Lothar thought hard about what his stats would give him. He concluded that the STR stat would give him physical power, the AGI stat would determine how fast he was, and the INT stat is related to magic. Pretty basic, but at this point, it would be hard to experiment.

'Do I have any skills though?'

Skills

[Plot Armor] lv Max

'…' Lothar stared speechless at the skill menu that promptly popped up. A few seconds later, he coughed up his spit as he choked on them slightly. 'Am I some goddamned protagonist of an anime?'

Examining the skill closer, he found out that he could display a brief description of a skill. Targeting the only skill in his skill menu, he read through the text, and what it showed stunned him to the core.

[Plot Armor] - grants the user invincibility against any threat (even themselves) that may harm him/her. Cannot be removed or stolen.

'… Holy fucking shit… I'm broken… I'm fucking broken…' Lothar's jaw hung wide open as he continued to stare at the brief description of the skill. A smile then appeared on his face as he yelled out into the high heavens. "HAHAHAHAHA!!! I AM FUCKING OP!!!"

Lothar grinned madly, dozens of situations which he conjured in his mind happening all at once. His enemies losing to him as he fought them, his allies praising him as he single-handedly defeats every opponent that comes his way, and quite frankly, a happy life.

Not wasting anytime, he grabbed his shirt, which was now close to drying, and put it on. Grabbing his club, he strode forward, following the river in hopes of finding civilization.

Lothar may be high right now, but that didn't mean his common sense were completely gone.

'I need to look for a place to stay first, but with my skills, I don't need to worry… probably…' For once, Lothar doubted his skill, but the memory of the goblin tripping on a tree root, causing it to fall and giving Lothar the chance to kill it, killed his doubt as he smiled and walked forwards.

An hour of walking later, he stumbled upon an orc fighting against some kind of bear, loud snarls and growls echoing around the place. However, where one saw a veritable future of disaster, Lothar only saw opportunity.

'Time to test my skill.'
