The Start of the Festival Ch.27

*Kannavis POV*

I was full on alert from the wreckage around me. If I have a nickel for every time my room was in a turmoil, I'd have two nickels, which is weird that it happened twice. More over, it always ended up with Irene by my side.

"Why are you here?! And what happened to my room?!" I asked Irene.

She adorably yawned and sat up from the bed. Her bed hair was a slight mess, but it didn't degrade her beauty the slightest. Plus, the garment's string she was wearing was slipping down a side of shoulder, almost showing her… gahhh what am I doing?! I quickly looked away.

"… Miss Kannavis.. you're finally awake.." Irene whispered as she snuggled into my blanket.

"You're damn right I am! Can you explain to me what has happened here?!" I said, pulling the blanket away from her.

Irene pouted and curled up, leaning her arms and head onto her knees, staring at me- "mmm.. You happened. And this." Irene slicked back her hair showing the teeth mark on her neck.

"This is also you, miss." She said with puppy eyes.

"Ugh.." I said flusterly. Damn it! What did I do last night?! I remembered drinking that whole bottle of wine… but my tolerance was actually pretty good though? Oh wait- this is not my body anymore, I guess I really messed up… thank goodness I didn't get alcohol poisoning.. I sighed in relief.

"…Did anything else happen?" I asked her.

Irene looked at me and slightly giggled at my question. She got up on the other side of the bed, weaved her arms in a stretch out manner, squeezing her back, exhibiting muscles that were carved out like a greek goddess as it illuminated under the dim sun light, then turned over her shoulder to look at me.

"Let us get ready, miss." Irene said.

I gulped at the uneasiness of her actions. It's weird to not be getting any answer from her, but her expression wasn't that too worrisome, more like something… pleasing… as if she looked entertained.

The walk that morning was also undoubtedly strange. People tend to avoid looking me in the eyes, but today's different… I feel like all eyes are on me for some reason and sure enough, not long after this, I was summoned into the principal's office.

On the left, there were two huge glasses block window, facing out to the field's front of the Academy. Already, you can see that people from the outside are coming in to join the Academy's fair. On the route, there were student's stalls, displaying their creations, products, magics and including down to cultural items. At the back field, you can hear roars and trumpets soaring in the background, exhibiting the start of the Lilium Kingdom's famous Maytime Festival.

"Miss Corvus, please take a seat." A man spoke. He was likely in his late-forties and balding. He has gray eyes, huge nose bridge and a displeased look on his face.

There were two shelves full of books, and documents, placed behind his desk that I'm seated the opposite off. His desk was full of books, neatly stacked, a globe placing behind it and the top right corner of the desk, has three mini flags, representing the Academy, the kingdom and the Ophis house. This Academy was especially found by the House of Ophis many many decades ago. Before, it has only accepted the nobles of that house, but a few years ago, they've finally accepted other aristocrats and had grown to be one of the best in the country. Every graduates that comes from here are elite among elite. You can say this is like this world's Harvard or something.

"I've been informed about the situation last night. I hope you're aware about what you've done, right?" He said, raising his eyebrows while his fingers lift his round glasses up.

"…hmm maybe? I'm sorry, could you elaborate, Mister…" I said nervously.

"Mr. Solomon. Principal's Buckin Solomon… seriously miss Corvus, please at least try to remember your teacher's name. That is very disappointing of you." Solomon raised his voice as his frowned down.

"Ah y-yes."

He sighed then continued- "I'm not surprised if you don't have a clue of what happened last night. Annulling your engagement with the prince publicly in that manner was one thing, but by done illegal drinking in the Academy while getting completely wasted, making a scene at the party is a serious hurdle."

Huh? I'm sorry? What did I do?

"The party was an awkward event last night, and all they talk about was you. Well? Are you going to say you're not the cause of any of this?" Solomon asked. I was starting to sweat profusely, what should I even answered? There were too many questions I don't have answers to, right now.

"I-I… no, I don't know." I said guilty. I can't remember anything, so I can't defend myself. If all of that is true… then aren't I screwed?

" Haa.. our Academy is very precise on our disciplinary system, miss Corvus. Classes doesn't pass the rule's bending, so as per your punishment, you have to complete community service for the Academy until the end of the week. In addition, from this point forward, you're to be disqualified from the selection process of this tournament." Solomon said.

"W-what?" I asked.

"Disrupting a social gathering is one thing, miss Corvus, but you have to consider the other students's experience in this Academy as well. Plus, breaking the Academy's rule and destroying yourself with senseless pleasure are some serious violation to the reputation of all of us and yourself." Solomon outrightly said as he gathered his documents, preparing to head out.

"Take those time to consider you positions… oh and I've heard the duke was going to come see you compete, doesn't it sound great? But what a shame, isn't it…" Solomon said with a pity expression on his face then closed the door.

I was left alone in the office to process what he has said. I cancelled my engagement with the prince… and got disqualified from the tournament?… Isn't this.. Awesome?!

I've been thinking of how to get rid myself of this crappy event and that bitter of a man… Who would have guessed that alcohol would actually solve my problem?! hAH!… maybe I should drink more often… hehe

I sat there in the middle of the room laughing on my own, and some students walking pass outside were a bit spooked by my sudden burst of laughter.

"Oh.. this is actually great!.. but I do wonder what type of work I have to do though.." I said. Oh… I didn't expect this.

"Oh.. I heard you were coming, welcome miss Corvus." Donna said. She was wearing her usual welsh hat and black attire, but adding extra layer of leather vest, high boots and gloves.

The area was a big open field, with a large farm house, filled with all type of fascinating fantasy creatures. Presumably, this is the Academy's familiars ranch.

"Please place your stuff outside and change into the field's outfit." Donna instructed me and I do as I was told. I changed my usual white linel shirt with violet ties and short skirt into turtleneck and long leggings. Boots that were high up to my knees and gloves that were too big for my hands. It's a funny outfit, but I was feeling it.

"So… Mrs Gras, what are we doing today?" I said excitedly

"I'm glad you're sounding quite enthusiastic about this, miss Corvus." Donna smiled.

"Well it's the start of the maytime festival already, so most of the volunteers working at the ranch are off to the fair, so it's just me and you here now."

"Ahh… I see… WHAT!" I yelled out.

"Oh you don't have to worry, Miss Corvus. It's just some light work. We'll be done by this afternoon… I hope." Donna said as she turned her gaze away from me… this is going to be hell.

From then onward, I helped her clean the animals' coops, changed their water, sweeping their feces, the smell in there was horrendous, I almost puked twice and these freaking creatures excreted so much! Afterward, it was feeding time.

"You can stay here and feed the small creatures first, miss Corvus, their food tanks are over there. I'll go cut down some grass for the herbivores variant." Donna said.

"Ah.. Mrs Gras, can I come with you?" I asked.

"… Are you sure, miss Corvus? It's really hot out in the field, you know." Donna said with a bit of concerned on her face.

"I'll be fine, ma'am! Plus if we do it together, It'll be faster!" I said enthusiastically.

"Haa… alright then. Grab a sickle then, we're doing this the old-fashioned way." Donna said.

Our carriage was pulled by two large yaks that almost ten times the size of my body. As we arrived, it was a plain of grass next to my dormitory which was overgrown with long-grasses.

"Alright let's get to it." Donna said as we head off the carriage.

Her way with the sickle was incredibly fast. In minutes, she cut a whole tuft of grass, filling almost half the carriage already. Unlike me, I was barely getting a handful, and the grass was scraping my skin, this is really itchy!

"Are you alright, miss Corvus?" Donna asked from the carriage.

"Ye-yep! I'm totally fine, mrs Gras! Just trying to cut this… goddamn thing!" I said while sawing the grass like a wood.

Donna chuckled a little and approached my direction. "Come now.. let me show you."

"You grabbed a bunch in your hand like so, then pull it upwards tightly. Your other hand, holding the sickle laterally to the grass, do a quick diagonal swift down.."

*Zrrrech!*

"Woah!!" I said in amazement.

"See? It came off smoothly. Now you try it." Donna said as she handed me the sickle. Just as she showed, it was quick and effective. It was really simple, in just half an hour, we filled the cart and were heading back.

"Uwwuahh… that was.. really fun." I said while I lay on the grass. It was only mid-day and I was already drenched in sweats.

"Hahaha.. I'm surprised you're enjoying this, miss Corvus. Most people would be extremely tired of this type of workload by now." Donna said.

"Yeah it's true that I am exhausted from this, but I wasn't getting bored from it. Once I got a whole of the sickle… I almost didn't want to let go of it." I said.

Donna smiled. "That's good to hear. Also, I am shocked that your small body have a stamina for this. Usually, this would be a group of people's work, but you can keep up with all of it, so truth to say, I am impressed."

"Yeah… I am quite impressed too." I said nervously. It is kind of strange. These days, I've been feeling more energetic and relaxed, maybe the environment here is nice?

As we were traveling back, we passed by the greenhouse of the dormitory. It's seemed to be getting some reconstructing.

"Mmm.. I heard that some bird flew in and broke it last night." Donna said.

"Huh.. maybe trying to pick on the crops?" I said.

"Yeah possibly, and that thing was definitely huge." Donna said.

I nodded in agreement.

*Click, Clack, Click, Clack..*

"Alright, we're here. Go rest in the shed, miss Corvus. You might get a heat stroke like this. You've done great today, leave the grass to me." Donna said.

"Ahh.. Thank you, ma'am!" I said then off under the shades. It was only the afternoon, but it was truly hectic. At least, I didn't feel like I was wasting time doing nothing. Looking at those creatures getting fed, it reminded me of my dog… Huu I wish I have a familiar too… wait- I do have one… oh Sh*t I completely forgot about my egg!!!

after the party, there’s rumor running around that the lady of the Corvus, enter the ballroom with a bottle in her hand and place it on someone’s head, threatening them if they move, she’ll kill them. Then after, she announced her annulment with the prince, she even threw some sort of gang’s sign at him.
