Chapter 40 The Birthday (Part 1)

"She was not able to find her." Clinton reported to Ashton.

While in the middle of having their lunch, Clinton had to excuse himself to receive a letter sent to him. He had ordered someone to search for Lucinda but the person was not able to.

"Apparently, she went into hiding and we know how difficult it is to find their kind when they decided to hide." Clinton said sipping his tea and waiting for Ashton's response.

"Tell her to continue with the search." Ashton finally said. " Leave no stone unturned."

Ashton turned and they both headed back to were Lei and Penny were talking and laughing.

A guard approached them with his head bowed.

"Your majesty, His Highness has requested that you come and see him immediately. He is in his chambers."

"Okay." Came Ashton's single reply. The guard bowed and left.

"I'll be back." He said to Lei and left the garden.

"I heard that Lucinda has not been found." King Nicolas said looking at Ashton who was sitting on the chair across him.

"She went into hiding."

King Nicolas nodded. "How is your marriage with Everleigh?"

"It's... alright." Ashton responded and by the tone of his voice, one could tell that he wasn't exactly sure of his answer or at least didn't know what to say.

"Your birthday... It is coming up soon."

"I know."

"Everleigh was born on the same day?" He said more of a question than a statement.

"She is."

"You two will celebrate it together."

"I don't think it's necessary."

"You might think so but I am sure she would want to celebrate it."

He stood up.

"I'll talk to her about it."

He left the King's chambers and was walking down the hallway where he spotted Clinton.

"We'll be going to Zenith soon." He walked away and walked into his chambers and saw Lei on the bed reading another book.

Seems like she loves books... He thought to himself.
