[Warning - Glimpse of Blood]
~~ At K Hospital ~~
The fluorescent lights flickered overhead as Peony and the others left the sterile, lifeless hospital room. Benedict's grip tightened around Dr. Kane's neck, his knuckles white with tension.
"Now you will do what I say," Benedict demanded, his voice low and menacing.
Dr. Kane, stricken with fear, couldn't help but cry out, "This is illegal! You cannot threaten the doctor of the hospital!"
Benedict leaned in closer, his breath chillingly cold against Dr. Kane's ear. "Oh really? What I'm doing is illegal, and injecting an illegal drug isn't? I have evidence against you. If you don't want to risk this hospital and your licence, then cooperate."
"F-fine t-then," Dr. Kane stammered, his voice trembling. Benedict's right hand maintained its iron grip around his neck, leaving him gasping for breath.
Benedict slightly loosened his grip to read a message on his phone, he received a message from Timmy. With his left hand, he unlocked his phone and read the words with a mix of relief and anxiety.
"Ben, we have safely boarded the ambulance and are on our way to the city hospital. By the way, bro, Peony was asking about you. She is really worried about you. And also, please don't make me Dr. Nia's chauffeur in the future!"
Benedict upon reading the part about Peony, had an unusual smirk on his face. While reading, "She is really worried about you", he inadvertently relaxed his hold on Dr. Kane.
Seizing the opportunity, Dr. Kane, desperate and cunning, managed to sneak a scalpel from the nearby table and immediately sliced through Benedict's right wrist. A torrent of blood gushed out, staining Dr. Kane's white coat, and he recoiled in horror.
"Devil," Dr. Kane muttered as he shivered, his eyes wide with fear.
Benedict, without a word, pocketed his phone, his blood still dripping onto Dr. Kane's coat. He then increased the pressure of his grip on Dr. Kane's neck and calmly replied, "Doc, you seem to underestimate me."
Dr. Kane's trembling voice quivered, "W-what a-are y-you?"
Benedict's eyes bore into Dr. Kane's with unwavering intensity as he leaned in, his voice chillingly low, "Your doom." Dr. Kane's body trembled under the unrelenting grip, and the room seemed to close in around them.
Gasping for breath, Dr. Kane, his voice shaky but laced with a hint of defiance, managed to utter, "I have never seen someone standing upright after getting his wrist slashed, let alone not shrieking and using force."
A sardonic smile flickered across Benedict's face as he retorted, "Now you've witnessed it, Doc. But what's your next move? Call the police? Do you think they'll overlook the illegal drug and those sinister experiments you've been conducting on innocent patients? From what I've gathered, that's a one-way ticket to a lifetime behind bars."
Dr. Kane, his voice quivering, retorted, "I have never experimented on innocent people."
Benedict, his tone dripping with sarcasm, fired back, "But innocent patients, right? Or perhaps the patients Mr. Gonzalez desperately wants to get rid of, am I right, Doc?"
Dr. Kane, finding no way out of Benedict's relentless grip, finally surrendered. He realised that he was facing a powerful and fearless adversary.
"I-I w-will l-listen t-to y-you," Dr. Kane stammered, his voice quivering.
But Benedict, cold and unyielding, was unfazed. "Your time is up, Doc. You betrayed me just now, and I don't trust you anymore. I will directly hand you over to the cops with proof."
Panic etched across Dr. Kane's face as he pleaded, "Please don't do that. I have a family, and this is my hospital."
Benedict's expression remained unyielding. "You didn't agree when I requested; why will I agree when you request?"
With a swift and decisive motion, Benedict threw Dr. Kane towards a man who appeared to be an officer, but was actually Mr. Smith in disguise. Mr. Smith noted the cut on Benedict's wrist and the bloodstains on Dr. Kane's shirt, his eyes narrowing as he processed the scene.
Benedict's voice was unwavering as he ordered Mr. Smith, "Officer, bring out each and every truth from him. Expose all the corruption he's fostered in this hospital. He deserves a special place for his illegal achievements."
As Dr. Kane was led away by Mr. Smith, he remained oblivious to the grim reality awaiting him. Little did he know that he was being taken to Shadow Mask Association's base, a dark and foreboding dungeon, far worse than he could have imagined, where he would be forced to confess his crimes.
As soon as they departed, the delayed response to his injury overcame Benedict, and he fell to his knees, weakened by the excessive blood loss from his wrist. Fortunately, Shadow Masks K-2 and K-3, who had been discreetly watching, rushed to his aid. With gentle but swift movements, they lifted Benedict from the ground and carefully placed him on the bed, preparing to provide the medical attention he desperately needed.
Benedict's face was pallid from the blood loss, and he managed a feeble, appreciative nod towards K-2 and K-3.
"Thank you," he whispered, his voice strained, as K-2, a seasoned medic within the Shadow Mask Association, took charge. With the precision of a well-trained healer, K-2 began assessing Benedict's injury. He swiftly applied a tourniquet to slow the bleeding, eliciting a sharp intake of breath from Benedict.
"Easy Boss," K-2 reassured him. "We've got you."
Benedict clenched his jaw as K-2 carefully cleaned and bandaged the wound, the precise care standing out in the dark and gloomy room.
K-3, known for her unwavering composure even in the direst of situations, kept her gaze locked on their surroundings. Her vigilant eyes scanned the shadows, ensuring that no unexpected threats lurked nearby.
While the medic attended to him and K-3 kept watch, the only sounds in the room were Benedict's heavy, struggling breaths.
In the midst of their struggle, Benedict turned to K-3, referring to the nurse who had been aiding Dr. Kane, and asked, "Did the nurse manage to escape?"
K-3 nodded and responded, "No, boss. K-6 handled it. She won't say a word about this. He simply threatened the nurse, and she agreed to keep quiet."
Benedict, still breathing heavily, acknowledged their efforts, saying, "Well done, every one of you. What about the status of K-7 to K-10?"
K-3, maintaining her vigilant watch, reported, "They've already reached the hospital. Dr. Nia is currently in the middle of an operation for the client's mother. Currently K-7 is on his way to pick us up."
Benedict's thoughts briefly drifted to Peony, but he refrained from asking, his concern for her etched on his face.
K-2, after finishing the makeshift medical treatment, expressed concern, "It's not a detailed stitch; it would be better if you get it stitched by a professional. And also the amount of blood you lost, you need immediate transfusion."
Benedict, his focus on their escape, responded, "It's fine, whatever you did. We need to leave."
K-3 concurred, "Yes, boss. The hacked system will soon revert back, and before that happens, we should make our escape."
The team swiftly made their way to the exit, navigating the hospital's dimly lit corridors with caution. They reached a hidden exit, and K-7 was waiting there with a van, ready to speed them away from the hospital.
With the support of K-2 and K-3, Benedict managed to move to the waiting car. K-7, the driver, wasted no time and quickly accelerated away from the hospital.
Benedict lay in the back of the car, his head feeling heavy and weak from the loss of blood. The pain in his wrist throbbed with each beat of his heart.
