If her house was beautiful then this one was magnificent. Evie had her jaw almost dropping if not she had strong self-control.
This place was just so…, she did not have the right words to explain how fascinating Ezekiel's house was. His family was indeed far wealthier than hers.
Her parents exchanging pleasantries with Ezekiel's parents jolted her from her reverie, instantly, she composed herself.
"You must be Evelynn Tan," a feminine voice echoed and she turned her head in the direction of the voice and saw a woman who seemed to be Ezekiel's mom.
"Good evening ma'am," Evie greeted them with courtesy and the woman only smiled, then she ushered them to join them in the dining room.
Evie's gaze swept the whole place but there was no sign of Ezekiel, she was supposed to be glad that her husband-to-be was not here but she felt worried.
She wanted to ask for his whereabouts but restricted herself.
"Sonia, you have a pretty daughter," Alice complimented and Sonia only smiled.
Alice never knew that Sonia had a child because she never discussed her daughter in their meeting; meeting of the female elites, wives of wealthy men.
They usually meet at the end of every month to discuss the welfare of the people, they discuss their lives, and their challenges and in rare cases, they set up a program that would benefit the poor masses.
It was in one of those meetings that Alice complained about her son's challenge about getting married, she narrated the whole problem to her fellow female elites and that was when Sonia told her about her daughter Evelynn who surprisingly caught the interest of Ezekiel.
"Where is Ezekiel?" The elderly man who seemed to be Ezekiel's father asked.
'Good question! Where is their son? Is he not supposed to be here?' Evie asked internally.
"He is supposed to be here, go get him!" Alice ordered a staff nearby but before the staff could move, Ezekiel surfaced.
He was in a white t~shirt and a pair of black leather jeans, his hair looked dishevelled but it had a way of adding to his natural beauty more.
He shoved his hand through his hair making him look more handsome. Evie tried her best not to stare, but his muscles and handsomeness were just top notches, he did not even need to try hard, he would be able to seduce any woman.
His gaze landed on Evie as he sat opposite her, unlike someone so fearless the first time they met, she looked so naive and scared to death right now.
The staff dished their food to them and they started eating. Silence reigned in the dining room until Alice broke the silence.
"So Evelynn, what do you do for a living?" Alice asked causing Evie to look at her.
"I…I am a hip hop musical artist but I quit that job because I have a lot of things to do, especially as the heiress of my family's company," Evie answered.
"I see!" Alice muttered and silence took over again.
"What do you both have to say if I decide that the wedding would be held in two weeks?" Alice asked, causing Evie to freeze, she least expected that the wedding would be so soon.
"Allow the kids to get to know each other first!" Mr Owens told his wife who was desperate to get her son married.
"Oh! Come on! They will get to know each other when they get married!" Alice retorted, she was hellbent on making Ezekiel marry, for the first time in many years they were in search of a bride, Ezekiel had never considered one of them yet he agreed to marry Evie.
She wanted the marriage to hold as soon as possible so that Ezekiel would not have a change of mind. This son of hers behaves strangely.
"I think it is too early for them to get married, they should hang out a little bit," Richard suggested.
"Fine I agree that is too early but I am over-excited about this wedding, you know that Ezekiel is my only child and I want to give him a wonderful and fabulous wedding," Alice stated.
"But… there is no harm in having an engagement party this weekend right?" Alice asked.
"Of course not! It is even an avenue for the whole wide world to know that they are together," Sonia replied, her face broad with a smile but the real bride-to-be was not excited about this, if anything, she wanted to scream 'no!' Tell them that she was not interested in this marriage.
Mr Owens, who was very much like his son, ~except that his son was worse than him, noticed that the young girl was not enthusiastic about the marriage, she looked like she was forced.
"Evelynn, are you alright?" Owens asked, every one's attention shifted to her.
Immediately, Evie faked a smile that did not touch her eyes, though only the Owens and Ezekiel could see through her facade.
"I am fine, I am just stressed out," Evie replied, she was stressed out by all the happenings, life was just tiring.
"What do you think about the engagement ceremony, Ezekiel?" Richard changed the topic, come to think about Ezekiel had not uttered a word since they started dining.
"Anything is fine by me," Ezekiel lazily replied, causing Richard to wonder about Ezekiel's behaviour.
Seeing the worry on Richard's face, Alice was quick to intervene,
"Ezekiel is antisocial, but not to worry, once we become family, he would get along with you guys, he is really fun to be with," Alice lied, did she say her son was fun to be with?
Ezekiel was the most boring man on planet earth, he never does anything fun, even when having sex; that is if he finds the girl attractive which rarely happens.
Alice did not want to say it out but she knew Evie would have to work her ass off to make this marriage work.
Ezekiel would never give her hope. Alice pitied the young girl beforehand but what can she do?
Nothing! Her son has to get married!
