Chapter 11

Evie found herself in her bed, in her room, back home. She was crying silently as she watched the video of her concert in Singapore over and over again.

"Honey," her mother's voice echoed from outside her room but Evie did not give any response.

Sonia was becoming worried about her daughter's behaviour, since she returned from her concert, she locked herself up in her room and ignored everyone, even Eric.

Earlier.

The manager and Mia had no idea what to do to their crying boss, Evie was known for being strong, she was the type that never showed her weak side.

Sometimes, Mia wonders whether Evie has problems, like personal issues because nothing had ever made Evie worried talk less of making her cry until now. Whatever was happening to her but be outrageous.

"Ma'am," Mia approached her with a handkerchief, she dabbed it on her face to wipe off the tears, but more were still streaming down her eyes.

"Book the next flight for me," Evie ordered in between tears. Mia wasted no time doing as she was asked to.

During her flight back home, she was just going through the internet, many information about her flooded the internet. Many people wanted to know the reason why she quit singing.

Her flight landed, the convoy of cars was waiting for her but she sent all of them away and boarded an airport taxi back home, she was not going to accept her parents' luxurious offer. They were the reason why she was like this.

As usual, her mother did not go to work, she was waiting for her to arrive.

Evie ignored her mother who kept on questioning her how the concert went, she just shut the door behind her and freshened up before climbing onto her bed.

Back to the Present,

Evie could not do anything, she was very weak. Her mother and even Eric pleaded for her to open the door to her room since she had locked herself up for hours yet she did not listen to any of them.

"Evie," her father's deep voice echoed indicating that he was back from work and her mother must have told him that she had been ignoring everyone.

Evie did not bother to reply, she wanted to be left alone to think about her life. They put her in this mess and expect her to be happy.

What is she? A robot that they can control anyhow?

"Evie open this door or I would break it down," Richard roared yet no reply from Evie.

'Go ahead and break the door dad. Good luck breaking down a metal door,' Evie snorted.

"Are you sure she is in?" Evie heard her father asking.

"Yes honey, she refused to open the door since she came home," Sonia complained.

"I think we should leave her, she would come out on her own accord," Eric suggested and the couple agreed to leave their daughter alone.

Evie remained in her room till midnight, she then decided to go to the kitchen to take some milk so that she could fall asleep.

Surprisingly, her mom was sitting on the kitchen stool, her hands placed on the kitchen slab which they used as their table in the kitchen.

Sonia looked up, sensing someone's presence in the kitchen, her gaze landed on her daughter who did not utter a word to her, instead she went to the refrigerator and took a bottle of milk, and into a glass cup.

"Evie," Sonia called her name breathlessly. "Evie, please hear me out, listen to what I have to say," she pleaded yet Evie did not even spare her a glance.

"Why does it feel like I am losing my daughter?" Sonia asked out loudly.

"You have already lost her," Evie retorted.

"No I haven't, my Evie is still in there," Sonia said, trying to sound firm.

"She is a long gone mom, you should get used to the new version of me. The moment you and dad agreed to marry me off, is the moment you lost me," Evie replied to her mother's statement.

"One day you would realize the benefits of this marriage," Sonia said but Evie walked away, not that Evie did not hear her.

Evie walked back into her room not feeling sleepy at all, she kept on thinking of her future with that stoic man, name tagged 'Ezekiel.'

She had to keep her mind busy so as not to think about her problem, so she decided to write songs since she can't fall asleep.

The sun rays peeked through the curtains, indicating it was already the dawn of a new day.

Evie could not remember how she fell asleep, the last thing she remembered was writing songs. She got out of bed and went to her bathroom to brush and bathe.

After taking her bath, she put on a simple red gown and walked to the dining room. She needed some food.

Her gaze connected with that of her father's and they seemed to stare at each other for a while before Evie made herself comfortable in one of the dining chairs.

"Why did you not answer us yesterday when we called you?" Her father asked and Evie saw that coming.

Richard was a man who does not let things go easily.

Evie did not reply, instead, she poured tea for herself into her cup,

"Evie, I asked you a question!" Richard got angry that she ignored him.

"What do you both want? Can't you leave me alone? I am twenty-five and not a year old! Why can't I live my life in peace without you guys being a pin in my ass? Why do you both keep on pestering me when I have agreed to marry Ezekiel? What on earth do the both of you want? You marry me off and expect me to be the same old happy Evie? Geez! I have lost my appetite!" Evie yelled and left the dining room leaving her parents flustered.
