Chapter 5

You say "If i do this, we will exchange one enemy for another. Some Cyborgs are companions of the Robot Republic and will use your planet as their war base. theyll probably enslave all humans here"

Laseen looks at you."Perhaps not,"he says, "but we may still lose the planet. I have served this Empire for years now. If I have to fight, so be it."

Laseen starts typing a message in the computer next to him "What makes you think it is worth our lives? Your life? Our lives?"

You say "I have seen what humans are capable of. its more then just the pure profit and rage the robot republic and the seekers have. but im also under a contract with one of the seekers that isnt deactivated yet"

Laseen looks at you for a long time, then he sighs and looks back at the computer he is typing on.

"Protheroe," he says, "youre going to have to fight him for our survival. You might even die fighting him, which means theres a chance that you might die trying. Hes the most technically specialized warrior and the will of the whole planet to follow ones rules will stand or fall with this fight"

"But youre sending me anyways? Just in case things go south? To help us defeat whatever comes our way?"

Laseens lips twitch upward and he nods.

You say "Then i have to contact my seeker to tell him that this planet might be willing to give up without a fight, is there a place where i can send a message without being noticed?"

Laseen looks around the small room and sees nothing but a large desk and a row of ancient looking computers that he has been working on for ages.

He says: "I see no evidence that this room could be compromised, go ahead"

You walk over to the desk and see a printer, several small storage units, and a flat screen monitor.

Laseen notices that you are amused and looks at you typing on your left arm while you said that you might have no other choice.

You start the call with your usual greeting and a holographic image of one of the seeker's masks fills the screen. The face of the seeker is distorted and his mask has strange markings around it and it reminds you of the face of a fish. The seeker says:"Hello. How can we help you?"

You say "I need your help. Its urgent"

The Seeker says "Certainly, what is it that you need?"

You say "Can you give us more time, im on to some kind of peaceful release of the planet as we all could wish for"

The Seeker says "Unfortunately not, we have been ordered to attack immediately"

Laseen interjects before you can say anything else. He shouts "Wait!"

Laseen says "Please listen to him. It would mean our own doom if we were to fail"

The seeker turns his head to face Laseen "What would happen if we failed?"

Laseen says "The planet might fall and the robots win"

The seeker looks at Laseen for a few moments then says "What do you want us to do?"

Zee says

You say "Theres a warrior to defeat for the planet to follow us. if you support us secretly with weapons, we would have a chance"

Zee asks "And what chance would that be?"

Laseen seems angry as he spits out the following words: "You have the chance to be betrayed by your own cyborgs or to follow your fellow people and pretend to have communication problems with the grand seeker. For me its no hard choice"

Laseen grabs the seeker's head and twists it around so the seeker is looking at him. He speaks slowly and deliberately, his voice dropping down to a whisper: "You do this for the people, understand?"

Zee answers: "We shall do as you say. If theres any chance that your plan could end in our victory, I will be the first to act"

Laseen releases the seeker and walks behind his desk.

"I have send you coordinates for the needed weapons, good luck for us all." He signs you to end the call.

You stare at the screen as the face of the seeker distorts and changes into a mass of lines and pixels. For a moment nothing happens, but suddenly the screen erupts with a blinding white light.

The bright white light flashes through the screen as an explosion rings throughout the building.

All the windows shatter and glass rains into the room, covering both Laseen and yourself.

Your body becomes frozen from fear and surprise. All around you is silence and broken glass. After what seemed like a minute, but was only about three minutes. Suddenly, you hear the sound of creaking floorboards in the distance and a low rumbling sound from above. You turn your head and see the door collapsing on itself as pieces of wood hit the ground all around you. Before you can make a move you feel a sharp pain shoot through your leg. When you look down it's covered in metal spikes. You scream in pain and try to pull them away, but they're stuck fast.

You're dragged toward the door in agonizing pain. Your leg is pulled, splintering bones and tearing away at your flesh. You're thrown through the air as a spike tears into your shoulder.

The cyborg parts allready began to repair the damage and you look around to see where its coming from and get a slight look at the new guy from the spaceship, who had been standing behind you the entire time, watching everything unfold. He smirks when he sees you looking at him and gives a cocky laugh as he approaches you and grabs hold of the last piece of your broken bone. You cry out from the unbearable agony you have endured for the past five minutes. Tears stream down your face in endless streams.

The cyborg finishes fixing your leg and stands up straight. He looks at you and says: "You should be grateful that I didnt kill you. Betrayal will be punished only by your master. As he is corrupt himself, that will be the quest for the grand seeker."

You begin to sob uncontrollably.

Suddenly you hear an ear-splitting screech from above. The new guy turns around in a hurry and stares up directly into Laseens gun just before its head gets blown clean off.

Chapter 6

He lets go of you and you drop heavily onto the ground, holding onto your injured shoulder as it throbs in pain.

Laseen runs over, picks you up gently with his gloved hands, then lays you on the ground and pulls away some of the debris surrounding you. He looks over the wound.

"This is just a flesh wound. You'll be fine." Laseen says as he pulls a small medkit out of his jacket.

You say "no worries, my cyborg body will repair it. we have to get the weapons as soon as possible!"

Laseen looks shocked for a moment, but he quickly regains his composure. "You are right. Theres no time to worry about this. We have an entire planet to save." Laseen says sternly.

The two of you continue to crawl forward until you are finally close enough to the entrance that a few guards are looking around frantically. There are a lot of them. They seem to have already heard the noise of explosions and started searching for the source.

You stare at the men and women in front of you. Most are looking around, confused and panicked. Others have their hands on swords or guns. A few have guns pointing straight at your heads.

"You there! Hands on the ground!" One of the men shouts. "Its fine shes working for us" laseen says to the guards. "Just put the weapon down and no one will get hurt."

You look over at Laseen and see his finger hovering over the detonator of his own gun. He shakes his head slightly and puts his finger on it.

One guard yells: "Are you crazy? Shes not working for anyone!"

The man raises his gun at you.

"Put the gun down or Ill shoot her"

You look at Laseen, whose face remains stoic and cold. He looks away from you and back at the guard, and says:

"You raise your gun and I will shoot you myself."

You say "Seems like we have a draw"

You stare at Laseen, whose eyes are fixed on the guard before him.

"You have one way to resolve this" Laseen says.

The guard hesitates and lowers his gun.

"Good job" Laseen whispers.

You watch the scene play out in the middle of the room, still lying against the wall, blood dripping steadily from your shoulder.

One guard takes a step towards you and kneels down next to you, reaching out for you.

"Are you okay?" the guard asks.

You look up at him and notice his eyes are no longer hard and cruel, but soft and pleading. You feel a sudden rush of pity for the man.

You take a deep breath and reply:

"I'm fine.. thank you for asking.. and you can stand"

As soon as you finish speaking the man stands quickly, then reaches out for your hand and helps you up. You grab the handle of the broken shard of glass sticking from your leg with your free hand.

"I'm Sergeant First Class Vahlat. I will be in charge of your weapons and ammo"

He says as he leads you over to a large table along the end of the wall. "Lets get the weapons as quick as possible and end this hell" you say.

The man grabs a rifle, a small portable anti-materiel weapon with a clip that can attach to your body. Then he grabs a large ammo pouch.

"Inform the others to grab theirs Vahlat, we must rush" ,laseen says. The guards head to follow their new orders. You watch as Laseen walks to the far side of the room. He pauses and stares back at you, before entering a code on a small panel.
