Pining Through Calamity (Bromance)

Two hundred years ago was the domain war between humans and elves. The result: a third of the human world seized by the elven power. Ruith is a gentle and sensitive elven prince, too passive to succeed his father, the king of Ophinem’s Meadow Province, now that his elder brother has passed away unexpectedly. Simon is a dutiful and heroic human soldier, willing to sacrifice anything to provide for his family in the slums. However, he is dying from a disease even the military’s advanced technology cannot cure. Time for him is running out. When the two encounter by chance in the human world, an instant and adoring friendship blooms. Too consumed with each other, their demanding responsibilities are forgotten until the antagonism their races hold against each other catches fire. Together the pair faces severe consequences for their forbidden bond that they desperately attempt to overcome in order to escape another war that could eradicate everything they love and pry them away from each other. A character-driven story about opposing worlds, forbidden bonds, royalty, politics, magic, religion, and philia love. {Warnings: contains angst, betrayal, violence, revenge, and mentions/depictions of suicide & self harm.} *Note*: In this story, elves are reinvented according to my imagination and how their design will nourish the plot. They do not follow the rules traditional to their design. The Plan Must Change (2/3) || Ruith

"We can discuss that later," Simon said, addressing the woman's previous query about me, and his voice clung to helplessness. "Help me get him somewhere safe. He's bleeding a lot. I-I need to take care of him."

The woman's opposition rumbled low in her throat, but her voice was neutral when it reached my ears. "There isn't anywhere safe in this forest. It's overrun by soldiers. Elves, too. Whatever you need to do has to be done here. We should try not to stay in one area for too long."

I felt Simon bristle, likely prepared to argue that this place was too exposed for him to tend to me, but I only lifted my head and reached for the combat knife the woman had previously offered me. Then I met Simon's anxiety-rimmed gaze with blurry vision of my own.

"Bullets in my shoulder," I managed weakly. "Take them out… Please."
