Chapter 8:
I woke up the next day feeling amazing. It was so comfortable a sleeping spot that I didn't want to leave, so I spent the next five days just defeating monsters near there and returning to sleep. I didn't find any monsters stronger than the big bear, but I was sure my level must have shot up.
"Oh, Piid can you let me check my profile?"
A screen popped up.
Name: Jack Stardia:
Occupation: Adventurer
Level: 73
Skills: Piid, Flash, Light-Affinity, Increased Mana Capacity C, Increased Stamina Capacity C, Increased Strength C, Swordsmanship C, Flash-Immunity, Magical Sense C
New skill: Flashlight: Shoot out Light-Magic in a straight line
Now, I had levelled up which was good, but this new skill was interesting.
"Shoot out light, huh…"
I tried testing it out. I pointed my finger at a nearby tree.
"Flashlight!"
A small spot of white light appeared on the tree. Very small. Pretty much like a laser.
"Now, this doesn't seem that harmful, but if I hack it a bit using voiceless magic, maybe I could weaponize this…"
Instead of slaying monsters, I decided to spend a few hours testing out this new spell.
I made a couple of conclusions. First off, this spell was layered on top of the Flash spell. Whereas Flash would just use my finger as a candle and emit light from there, Flashlight would concentrate that light and put pressure on it to shoot out. From the feel of it, I wasn't sure if normal light, and Light-Magic worked with the same laws of physics.
The biggest advantage of this spell was that it was like an instant hit attack, except for the fact that it did no damage yet.
To sustain the spell, I just used the same mechanism for sustaining Flash. But that turned out to be ineffective because I was actually just reactivating Flashlight a lot of times and layering on top of the sustained Flash. So I kept experimenting and found a new mana mechanism layered on top of where I usually used Flash, and this sustained the lazer.
I also learned something new while experimenting: I could combine Flashlight into Flash and light my entire fist, but that was the most I could do. Probably at a higher level and enough mana I could light my entire body.
It would be cool if I went into battle and it was like looking at the sun looking at me.
Just before night and it was time to sleep again, I decided I'd try to use all my mana at once and focus on creating a small powerful one second lazer and shot it against the tree with my pointing finger tip.
When I went up to the tree after shooting, I saw that it had left a small, perfectly circular hole in the tree that went halfway through it.
"Is it powerful enough against that boss?"
Also worth noting, my mana had gone up with my levels and I could do about 100 Flashes in a row.
But right now my entire body was burning from using all my mana, so I went back to my resting spot with Queen Beetle and slept.
I woke up the next day and tried a weaker version of the Flashlight attack on smaller insect type enemies.
I met that big metal rolling beetle again. And just before running I'd decide to shoot it at him
"Whoa!"
I had expected the attack to deflect off the metal, but it didn't for some reason. It just caved in the metal shell at the point of impact and stunned the beetle. I swiftly and dove into the point of penetration and finished it off.
"I guess that's one of the differences between Light-Magic and light?"
So though the Light Magic had properties of light, it was stil normal mana magical energy. Or maybe I was just missing something about the spell.
At least now I had, just like I wished for oddly enough, an instant hit projectile attack. or not projectile, but long range attack.
I next tested the distance I could fire off one of these attacks. I tested it at day and at night and at difference intensities. I found this: day and night had no affect on the attack. And that intensity also had no affect on the attack range, only what was blocking it.
I woke up fresh the next day. The Queen Beetle was still asleep on my chest.
A textbox popped up.
Notification: Analysis of Devil King's Minion Tigersson completed.
"Huh? You've been analysing him? How?"
I can create a profile of everything inside me. I started the analysis when I first offered the dungeon as an option. Tigersson has been fiercily resisting. On that note it used its low intelligence to finally figure out you were a danger and is currently trying to find and kill us.
"Fuuuck!"
When I said that the Queen Beetle woke and started bussing.
In a 1v1 battle we will be killed immediately. Follow the following strategy: If you cut of his head he has a mechanism inside his heart to automatically regenerate it, and if his head is intact he can regenerate any part of his body. Drink all the potions you have now. Cover yourself in mud. Then command the Queen of the Forrest to teleport you to the highest point. From there, wait until Tigersson climbs up and with all your might shoot the best Flashlight you can at his chest, and make sure you get the brain too.
"What the hell… so much… I don't even know. Okay, wish me luck— I mean wish us luck, I guess."
I followed all of Piid's steps.
"Ehm… Queen of the Forrest, please teleport me to the highest point in the forrest?"
I was shocked when Queen Beetle, or apparantly Queen of the Forrest, teleported us on top of a very steep mountain.
I wasn't sure, but my guess was that teleportation worked by creating a 4th dimensional hole you travelled through instantly.
I wished I had known about this bug's teleportation abilities. And apparently it could understand speech.
After just 3 minutes on top of the spot, I saw Tigersson come rushing at me. It was like a black ball just moving faster and faster and getting bigger.
Instinctivly I realized I had no chance to think, so I just reacted.
BOOOOOOOOMMM!
2nd stage:
Defeat Tigersson
Cleared
I didn't even see what I did. Everything was reactive. I just immedaitely felt all of my mana was drained.
The last thing I saw was the huge black lion face to face with me, with its mouth wide open, stopping midair, and then tumbling down the steep mountain. At the foot of the mountain, I saw it not getting up.
Congratulations! You are now the master of this domain! Or what we call, Dungeon!
"My god…"
I sat down on my butt. Queen Beetle flew around excitedly in circles and seemed happy.
Congratulations, you have defeated an A-Rank monster.
Yeah, through pure luck.
Blink.
"Please don't leave, Jack!" Luna was clinging to me. I was back in the apartment. As if nothing had changed.
"Holy… what happened?"
"Oh, I was in a dungeon for about 2 weeks I think. Almost died. Just defeated Tigersson. Goodnight."
I dropped back into my comfortable bed.
