"Irene.... Irene sweetheart, you have a visitor". Liam called out.
"Coming dad." Irene yelled from inside and then rushed out to check out who it was. She found Alexandra sitting on their sofa in their house looking remorseful.
"Alexi, what's wrong?" she asked as she walked towards her friend. Her father excused himself to leave them alone and have their privacy. The two got up and went out to have their conversation.
"Now tell me, what's wrong?" Irene asked, concern visible on her face.
"Nothing. Look Irene.... I'm sorry about the other time. I didn't mean to bring my anger on you. I was just upset with Bianca's words but that doesn't give me the right to bring that anger or blame on you. So please, forgive me. We have known each other for years now and I don't want all the happy memories we shared to be stolen by one night argument. So please again, forgive me." Alexandra pleaded.
"Alexi, what you also did might have hurt me too, but that doesn't mean I should make it affect our friendship. I assure you, nothing in this world or the next can ever destroy our bond together as friends, so keep that in mind." Irene said then hugged Alexandra.
A sudden warmth spread in Alexandra's heart, and it was a warmth of relief. She was deeply hurt for treating the innocent Irene like that the other day. Irene, who had been there when she needed money to watch over her weak father's health. Who had been there to save her when she had almost been molested. Who was even the shoulder she cried on after her father's death, how could she do this?
They decided to take a small walk around the neighbourhood to freshen up their minds. "So, how's it going?" Alexandra asked.
"How's what going ?" Irene asked, raising a brow confused.
"Oh come on, you know what I am talking about." Alexandra said, smirking.
Irene suddenly stopped. "No seriously, I don't know what you are talking about." Irene said scratching her head completely lost.
"Come on Irene, are you that dumb. I'm talking about Micheal for God's sake." Alexandra replied irritated.
"Oh Michael, sorry I just couldn't get your point, so clear that face now." she said trying to calm Alexandra down "About Michael, nothing much. I don't talk to him.''she confessed.
"Why?" Now it was Alexandra's turn to be confused.
"Nothing. I just decided to stay away when I found out that one of his boys is a drug dealer." She said with a sigh.
"Wait, wait wait, when you say one of his boys do you mean the same boys we know." Alexandra asked astonished and Irene nodded.
"You shocked?"she asked.
"No..Uhm..I'm actually amazed because you know, I had a crush on one before. Can you tell me which one exactly is the drug dealer." she asked, shaking.
Irene laughed out loud and thought she finally had something she could use to tease her friend.
"Irene." Someone called and they both turned around to see Micheal walking towards them.
"Well look at who it is." Alexandra whispered to Irene. Irene's cheeks turned scarlett red from embarrassment and looked down her toes to prevent them from seeing it. Yes, she still loves Micheal, but her mind was on education and she needed to stay away from him since she guessed he might be dangerous.
But what if he was not? That was the question that kept playing in her head. They had known each other for years now. She should think good of her friend and not the other way round. Yes, they have had so many differences back in their high school days, but those differences were nothing compared to now.
"Are you in need of something?" she asked uninterested in what he was about to say.
"Nothing, I just wanted to say hello, It's been a long time since I've seen you. Where have you been?" he asked.
"Actually, it's been a long time since I have seen you so do you mind telling me what you've been doing that has been keeping you away." she asked coldly.
"Why the cold shoulder." Micheal asked, confused.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know I was cold. But me being cold does not answer my question, so do you mind giving me my answer now."
"It's.." Just as he was about to speak, they heard gunshots not far away from where they were. People started running out from all sorts of places unaware of where to hide. Micheal pulled Irene and Alexandra out of there when motorists arrived and started firing at the people.
The motorists seem to be after someone as they kept exchanging bullets which directly hit the innocent instead of the opponent. The people running for their lives had blocked their sight so they had no other choice but to fire at them to get what they wanted.
Michael had to drag Irene and Alexandra out of there to a small dog house nearby where they could hide. They just kept hearing the screams and cries of people and it was terminating to the ears.
After minutes of firing at people, the motorists heard the siren of the police. They had to escape from there before they got locked up for the crime they had just committed. So, as fast as they could, they rode off from there running for their wicked lives. People who had hidden now had the chance to come out after the motorists had cleared out.
It felt like their world was coming to an end and there was no one to say goodbye to. Kids came out of trash cans and some out of gutters. Some whose parents or siblings were shot sat beside them crying their hearts out.
Some women could be seen running towards their kids or husbands lying on the floor lifeless. A strong and disgusting smell of blood hit the community, and that is what made the community a dangerous place. The people live their life freely and peacefully, but when the drug dealers are at war against each other, blood is sped.
