Jimmy waited for a few minutes until the backup police and ambulance arrived. After the injured officer was taken away, the backup police asked Jimmy a few simple questions and then it was over. He was there to help, not the cause of the accident, so there wasn't much to ask. Jimmy returned to the restaurant where everyone was mostly ready, and dinner time was about to begin.
Dinner time was clearly busier than lunch, with 10 tables almost full. Jimmy started serving with Karen, and many customers seemed familiar with the restaurant. Karen could call out many people by name, and the appearance of a young Chinese-American waiter didn't lead to any discrimination incidents.
The busy hours were coming to an end as customers started leaving. Jimmy helped Karen and Annie clean and set the tables. Outside, the sound of many motorcycles, likely large ones, could be heard. Jimmy looked out the window and saw riders splitting into two groups, probably having some dispute. Some were arguing, but it was too far to hear through the window.
After a while, they rode off, luckily without any incidents. Jimmy was speechless about the security in this area; these bikers didn't seem like troublemakers unless they caused a scene in the restaurant. At 10 p.m., Jimmy finished his delayed dinner, ended work with everyone, and headed back to his tent.
Walking on the streets at night wasn't a good idea, Jimmy thought. He felt like someone could attack him at any moment. Walking cautiously, he heard gunshots from a nearby residential area. Jimmy hid under a wooden fence, witnessing police activity with flashing lights. Suddenly, someone knocked down the fence, pinning Jimmy beneath it. The person ran off, and the police chasing the suspect missed Jimmy under the fallen fence.
Jimmy woke up in the hospital, feeling relatively unharmed. Confused about why he was there, he called out for help. A nurse came and checked his IV, then called a doctor. The doctor informed Jimmy that the police would talk to him in the morning.
The next day, two police officers came to the hospital, spoke with the doctor, and took Jimmy to the police station. In the interrogation room, they asked Jimmy about his whereabouts the previous night and what he had been doing. Jimmy explained his evening at the restaurant, the incident with the fallen fence, and his subsequent hospitalization. The police checked his story with his employer and address, and if everything checked out, he would be free to go.
