CHAPTER 2

Phoenix walked out of the bathroom with her head lowered as she dried it with a small towel.

Moving further into the room, she looked up and saw the person that had taken over her bed.

She licked her lips looking at the girl who was frowning. "I know, I know you don't have to say anything I will get dressed right now," She said and moved towards the drawer opposite the bed.

She took out a pair of blue baggy jeans and a simple oversized black T-shirt, basically what she wore every day. She took off her towel leaving her in her underwear as she got dressed.

"Phoenix?" the girl on the bed called out.

Yes?" She answered without looking back.

Paisley remained quiet even after hearing Phoenix reply, she sat in a daze staring at her back. Her lips parted but nothing came out, she already heard from her parents and was fully prepared to face this day. "When did you get that mark?" She gulped and asked excitedly, wishing she could dig the answers right out of her

"which mark?" Phoenix turned and asked confusedly. A frown formed on Paisley's lips, she furrowed her brows staring at her, obviously not satisfied with her answer.

She stood up and walked towards her friend then she gently pulled her to stand in front of the full-length mirror beside the drawer. " this one right here, look!!"

Paisley stretched her neck and looked at her back which was on display in the mirror. Right above her waist was a small red bird-shaped mark, resembling a phoenix.

She looked at the strange mark that had appeared out of nowhere and reached out to poke it, "OW!! why will you did you do that??" She eyed Paisley who slapped her finger before she could poke it the second time.

The girl smiled so hard her cheeks could fall off. The smile on Paisely's face fell immediately and she glared at her. It didn't last long she started laughing, hitting Phoenix as she laughed, she couldn't contain her excitement in the least making Phoenix who had no idea of what was happening wonder if her friend was going mad.

After some time Paisley stopped laughing, she wanted to ask her question again, but the confused look on Phoenix's face made her understand she was clueless. She moved to the bed picked up her phone and quickly walked out of the room, to avoid any questions.

Phoenix came down after some time when she was done dressing. From the room, she could see where Paisley sat. Her student apartment was in a loft style. Small and comfortable.

"Are you ready?" Paisley asked seeing Phoenix come down the stairs with her bag. She stood up, picked up her bag then dusted the invisible dust and wrinkles from her clothes.

She had already tuned down her original excitement and was much more calm.

"Yes, yes let's go your majesty" Phoenix laughed as she joked. "Get my water bottle from the fridge please" she begged Paisley, already knowing she was going to get a snack from the kitchen before they left.

"sure, my Princess!" Paisley replied walking off to the kitchen while Phoenix sat down watching everything she did as she waited. When she came back Phoenix stood up with her bag, collected the bottle from her then they walked to the door.

Phoenix took out her keys to lock the door." I can't believe you're still using this stick to open the door, I hope my neighbor won't call the police thinking you're a criminal" Phoenix said looking at the metal stick which had been discarded and the culprit. "It's not my fault I keep leaving the key, Okay?!" paisley replied biting her lips.

She searched for her phone but could not feel it in its usual spot." wait, don't lock it yet." She dug through all the pockets on her combat trousers for the phone but she couldn't find it." have you seen it?" she raised her head and asked Phoenix

"NO!" Phoenix replied opening the door again so they could search for it. Walking in, they dropped their bags by the door before proceeding to search for them.

They checked every possible place it might have been. "yes, I remember!" Phoenix shouted suddenly.

"What? The phone?? Where did you see it???" Paisley asked dropping the pillow she held.

"Shhhhh! Let me think " Phoenix shushed her friend to quiet down so she could think of the last place she saw the phone. 'The kitchen tabletop...? She thought 'Yes Yes that's where she dropped it'. Turning her head to face Paisley she parted her lips to tell her where the phone was.

She screamed, clutching her head with her hands in the process. Her head was aching the exact way it did in the morning.

She leaned on Paisley and closed her eyes, squeezing her folded hands as the pain intensified. She opened her eyes again and was bewildered at the sight of Paisely's phone floating towards, them just like the towel did. "P..P..Ais..." she couldn't finish her words before she blacked out.
