Chapter 4

The next day, early in the morning,

Layla and Leo enter the Demon king's study.

"You both have come quite early, You should have rested more. Anyway, Here is the information on your new identities. Layla and Leo from today on you both are my shadow guards, Jasmine, and Cairo. You both are orphans that I adopted from an old burnt village and have trained you both ever since to be my personal guards. Layla, You were burnt by the flames and were disfigured, which made you cover your face all throughout your life. And Leo, You were cut by a knife on your left cheek, which left a huge scar causing you to also wear a mask covering the left half of your face. The rest is already informed in the material I gave you, make sure you memorize all of them by dusk, without fail. Layla since you are pregnant, I will temporarily make you my court advisor, once you have given birth you will return to the position as a shadow guard. Remember, there is no one who you can trust here. Anyone can be a spy sent by your uncle so you must be on guard at all times. Both of you can never reveal your true identities, even if you are on the brink of death. Understand?"

"We understand your highness. We both thank you for your help. Even our lifetime wouldn't be enough to repay your kindness." says Layla while bowing her head in gratefulness.

"Enough, enough, with those sweet words of yours. You both don't need to be so thankful. You both are just like my children and it is my duty to protect you both. I can tell your aunt really cares for you, so it is a matter of fact that I do too." says the Demon King kindly.

All three of them have a nice chat.

And then,

The Demon Queen enters.

The guards announce her entering.

"Looks like you guys are having a good chat without me," says the Demon Queen jokingly.

"Aunt...No I mean your highness, Thank you for taking both of us in." Says Leo gratefully.

"Aye, We are family silly, and I guess your uncle already told you this." replies the Demon queen.

The Demon King then gets up from his seat and says "Layla, come with me... Layla, today I will brief you about all the details regarding the court. And Leo you don't really have much work, just keep your aunt company.".

Both Layla and the Demon king leave the chamber.
