The dark gray thunder clouds overhead released a relentless down pour upon New York City. Already dirty buildings seemed to get turn more gray as smog from the vents drifted up into the streets. A drunken Alex Turner glanced up at the sky as remembered the events of the previous day.

The sun pierced through the clouds as Alex made his way to Macy's Herald Square. This was Macy's flag ship store and the largest department store in the world, the perfect place to buy a gift for his girlfriend. Alex had begged and begged until his childhood friend Emily Grant had finally agreed to be his girlfriend. Now it was her birthday and the perfect chance to show how much he loved her. 'Hmm. What should I get?' Alex thought to himself. 'I know she likes luxury goods, but do I even have enough money to buy the cheapest bracelet from a high end store?' Alex pulled out his phone and checked his banking app. '$42.37, not exactly the biggest budget. Oh well, what can I do? I'll just have to pick something in my price range.' Alex continued walking and opened the door to the Macy's store.
"Can I help you sir?" A young attendant came up to him. She was a beautiful young lady of about 20 years of age and was eager to sell more items to get a higher commission.
"Yeah, I'm looking to get some jewelry for my girlfriends birthday, and I'm on a bit of a tight budget." Alex replied
"That's fine, we have many budget friendly options available, please, follow me." The attendant said, sounding a little disappointed. She led Alex through the store past the fragrance and clothing sections and into the jewelry area. "This is our cheapest necklace," She said holding out a beautiful silver chain with a charm attached to it. "the chain is stainless steel, has an easy to use clasp at the back and comes with a charm in the shape of a waxing crescent moon to symbolize growth and beauty."
"Its wonderful... How much is it?" Alex asked nervously. 'It can't be too expensive right? She said it was their cheapest one,' Alex hoped in his heart he could afford it.
"That's the best part sir, it's only 50 dollars, a bargain, right!" Said the shop girl, smiling. Alex's heart dropped. He only had $42 in his account.
"Umm. Do you have anything a little... cheaper?" Alex said as he looked down embarrassed.
"Cheaper? It's only 50 dollars... surely you can afford 50 dollars." Said the attendant with a slightly confused look on her face.
"..."
"Hmph. I think I understand your situation. The Dollar Store is that way!" She said viscously as she jabbed her finger towards the door. The girl than let out another angry noise and stormed away. 'I can't believe someone who doesn't even have 50 dollars wasted my time! I could have actually helped a paying customer!' She thought.
